Chapter 30 Apologizing to Miss Scott
Glancing in the direction the salesperson had indicated, Lucy noticed a stunning girl dressed in a pure white Sofia gown—she looked as beautiful as Venus.
The off-the-shoulder style fully displayed her gorgeous collarbones, and the mermaid hem exquisitely encircled her tall frame and accentuated her lovely curves.
It was difficult Lucy to take her eyes off the woman's stunning appearance. She was noble, graceful, poised, and charmingly silly.
Then, she realized, the woman was Margaret! What the heck?
How was she able to be so gorgeous?
Lucy's eyes flashed with jealousy as she pointed at Margaret and said to the sales clerk, "I'll buy this dress! Wrap it up for me!"
The sales clerk looked a bit troubled. "But that lady just said she wanted to buy it."
Lucy’s tone was unpleasant. "Has she paid for it?"
The sales clerk hesitated for a moment. "No, she hasn't."
"If she hasn't paid, she hasn't bought it yet. Lucy told you to wrap it up, didn't you hear?" Grace pointed at Lucy in a fawning manner and then glared at the sales clerk. "Recognize who you're dealing with. This is Miss Clark. If you offend her, you can expect to be fired!"
The sales clerk hesitated for a moment. The Clark family was prestigious in Ravenford and had considerable influence. Lucy was Victor's most beloved granddaughter. As a mere sales clerk, she couldn't afford to offend them.
She didn't know Margaret's background, but she decided it was better to offend Margaret than Lucy.
With this in mind, the sales clerk walked up to Margaret and nervously said, "Miss, someone has bought the dress you're wearing. Please take it off."
Margaret's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Didn't I just say I was buying it?"
"But..."
The sales clerk was thinking about how to get Margaret to take off the dress when Grace stomped over in her high heels and arrogantly said to Margaret, "Lucy wants this dress. You country bumpkin, take it off now!"
"Is that so?" Margaret looked at her calmly and said, "I saw this dress first and said I would buy it first. Lucy, don't you know what 'first come, first served' means?"
"Can you even afford it, you country bumpkin?" Grace glared at Margaret. "Do you know how much this dress costs? Can you afford it?"
"Whether I can afford it is none of your business." Margaret didn't want to deal with Grace and directly handed her black card to the sales clerk. "Charge it to my card."
Lucy looked at the card in Margaret's hand, finding it increasingly familiar.
Lucy remembered that William had a card just like this.
This type of card was issued in limited quantities worldwide, and she didn't even have one. How could Margaret have such a prestigious card?
William must've given his to Margaret!
Thinking about how well William treated Margaret, Lucy wished she could tear Margaret to pieces.
Burning with jealousy, Lucy grabbed the sales clerk's hand, who was about to take the black card, and said domineeringly, "I'll pay double the price!"
Margaret crossed her arms and frowned at Lucy.
Lucy was really becoming a nuisance. All she wanted was to shop in peace, but running into Lucy while buying a dress? That was just her luck, and it wasn’t the good kind.
She raised an eyebrow and said, "Have you ever heard of 'first come, first served'? I bought this dress, so it's mine. No matter how much you offer, I won't give it to you."
"You think you deserve to wear this dress?" Lucy stared at Margaret, wishing she could bore a hole through her.
Such a beautiful dress was wasted on a country bumpkin like Margaret!
If Lucy wore it, she would look a thousand times more beautiful than this country bumpkin!
Plus, William would definitely like her if he saw her in it.
"Am I not worthy?" Margaret's lips curled into a mocking smile. "At least I can tell the difference between genuine and fake."
"You!" Lucy's face twisted with fury, nearly fainting from the humiliation of being mocked by Margaret in public.
How dare this country bumpkin mock her?
She was the high and mighty Miss Clark!
Sure, Margaret might be William's fiancée for now, but Daisy didn't acknowledge her, and William was probably just infatuated. There was no way he would really marry someone like Margaret.
Thinking this, Lucy felt more at ease.
No matter what, she was determined to get this dress today!
"Margaret, if you know what's good for you, take off the dress now!" Grace stepped forward and reached out to take off Margaret's dress.
"What are you doing?" Margaret grabbed Grace's hand and pushed her hard.
In broad daylight, was she trying to snatch a dress?
Margaret was furious. She wasn’t about to let herself be bullied!
Grace stumbled and almost fell from Margaret's push.
"You country bumpkin, don't push your luck!" Grace, the eldest daughter of the Smith family, was used to being arrogant and domineering with Lucy, even though the Smith family had been declining in recent years.
Now, almost being pushed down by Margaret, a country bumpkin, her anger was naturally beyond words.
Grace yelled at the sales clerk, "What are you standing there for? Call someone to take the dress off her!"
"Miss Clark, I'll go get the manager." Seeing the situation getting worse, the sales clerk didn't dare to offend Lucy, but Margaret also seemed unwilling to back down, so she needed to involve the manager to handle it.
Lucy snorted coldly and urged. "Make it quick!"
Lucy was confident that with the Clark family's influence, the store manager would definitely kick Margaret out.
Thinking about Margaret being thrown out, Lucy felt extremely pleased.
Seeing Margaret sitting leisurely on the sofa, Lucy angrily walked over, looked down at her, and arrogantly said, "Margaret, I'll give you a chance. Take off the dress and give it to me. Otherwise, when the store manager comes and throws you out, you’ll be completely embarrassed."
Margaret ignored Lucy's provocation and sent a message to Juniper.
Seeing herself being ignored by Margaret, Lucy’s frustration grew. She clenched her teeth, her anger boiling over.
This bitch must be reaching out for help—maybe even contacting William. The thought of William’s involvement stirred a mixture of resentment and frustration in Lucy.
She definitely wouldn't let Margaret off the hook today!
About ten minutes later, the manager of RD, Adam Price, hurried over.
"Adam," Lucy called out to him, and was about to ask Adam to kick Margaret out, but Adam seemed to ignore Lucy and walked straight past her.
Adam went directly to Margaret and respectfully said, "Miss Scott, hello."
Margaret calmly looked up. "Adam, right? Is this how your store does business?"
Adam broke out in a cold sweat and kept apologizing. "I'm sorry, Miss Scott. The sales clerk was ignorant and offended you. I apologize on her behalf."
