Chapter 117 The Problem Lies with Fleurancia
"Fleurancia branch factory?" William's face went ice-cold as he raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah," Margaret nodded, her brow furrowed. "The test results just came in. Some of the stuff they made has radioactive elements."
William rubbed his temples, his voice chilly. "We've been slacking on the Fleurancia branch. Looks like someone took advantage of that."
Margaret's mind was racing. Compared to HQ, the Fleurancia branch was way more laid-back. Being so far away, it was easier to mess with things over there.
Margaret thought for a sec and then said coldly, "We need to dig into what went wrong there and figure out when the radioactive stuff got in. Even at the Fleurancia branch, it shouldn't be that easy to mess with things. We probably have a mole."
"I'll get someone on it right away," William said, narrowing his eyes.
Margaret pressed her lips together and said firmly, "I wanna go to Fleurancia myself."
To really get to the bottom of this, Margaret felt she had to go to Fleurancia. Whoever managed to mess with things inside the Fisher Group's factory had to be pretty slick. As the head of the "Ice and Fire" jewelry line, it was her job to find out the truth.
"I'll go with you," William said without missing a beat.
Margaret was a bit surprised. She glanced at William. "Don't you need to stay here?"
"My going shows how serious the Fisher Group is about this and will also serve as a warning to those causing trouble," William said, his deep gaze on Margaret. "Peter can handle things here."
Actually, there was another reason: William didn't feel right letting Margaret go alone. Fleurancia was far away, and he was worried she might not handle things well in a foreign country.
Seeing William's insistence, Margaret didn't argue. It would definitely be more effective if he went to Fleurancia himself.
"There's something more urgent right now," Margaret said, her eyes downcast in thought. "We gotta recall all 'Ice and Fire' jewelry from the Fleurancia factory and negotiate compensation for those affected by the poisoning incidents. We gotta meet their demands to protect the Fisher Group's image."
Because of the radioactive element mess, Fisher Group's stock price had been tanking for days. Cutting the losses was the top priority.
Margaret's thoughts lined up with William's. He frowned slightly. "Alright, I'll get someone on it right away."
He then looked at Peter. "Set up a press conference for this afternoon."
"Yes, sir," Peter said, turning to leave.
"I'll get to work too," Margaret said. "Should I help you book tickets to Fleurancia for tomorrow?"
William shook his head lightly. "No need. We'll take my private jet tomorrow."
Margaret shrugged and strolled out of the president's office.
As she stepped out, she bumped into a guy coming in. Margaret looked up and saw it was Ulysses.
"Mr. Young," she greeted with a nod. Ulysses just gave her a cold glance before striding past her into the office.
Hearing footsteps, William looked up. Seeing Ulysses, William greeted him with a cool, "Mr. Young, what's up?"
"William," Ulysses said, placing his phone in front of William with a hint of reproach. "Do you know our stock price has dropped by ten percent over the past few days?"
William smirked, his voice deep. "Yeah, I know. I'll handle it."
"How exactly?" Ulysses frowned. "We all know why the stock price is tanking. The fix is pretty simple."
"Oh? What do you suggest?" William leaned back in his chair, giving Ulysses a casual glance.
Ulysses was Bradley's adopted son, two years younger than Owen. They'd grown up together and were tight. Later, Ulysses helped Owen run the Fisher Group, handling a lot of stuff.
After Owen's death, Ulysses temporarily took over as president, but Bradley eventually handed the company to William, making Ulysses the VP. In recent years, under William's leadership, the Fisher Group had thrived, and Ulysses had gradually stepped back.
"Fire Margaret," Ulysses said coldly. "As the project leader, Margaret was negligent, leading to this major screw-up. Only by firing her can we restore the Fisher Group's rep."
"Is that so?" William's eyes turned cold, his handsome face becoming sharp.
Ulysses wanted to pin all the blame on Margaret, making her the scapegoat. Given the current mess, this was indeed a quick fix. But it wouldn't solve the root problem. Even if Margaret wasn't the project leader, William wouldn't, or rather, couldn't bring himself to do that.
Seeing William's silence, Ulysses handed him a document. "Firing Margaret is the unanimous decision of several board members. Their signatures are on it."
William's slender fingers took the document, and he glanced at it. The signatures of several shareholders were there, with Daisy's name at the top.
"This is my mother's idea?" William asked slowly, raising an eyebrow.
"Yup. But it's also the consensus of all of us," Ulysses said, rubbing his eyes under William's intense gaze. "We have to be accountable to the shareholders and must resolve this issue quickly to cut the losses."
William's fingers tapped the table rhythmically, his long legs casually crossed. Even sitting, he exuded an invisible pressure.
He looked at Ulysses with a sharp, cold gaze. "I agree we need to be accountable to the shareholders and resolve this issue quickly. But firing Margaret isn't the solution."
William's outright rejection took Ulysses aback. He wanted to say more but was cut off by William's impatient tone, "I'll handle this. There's nothing more for you to do here. You can leave."
