Chapter 273 Unveiling the Truth 4
Faced with Margaret's intense vibe, Mia couldn't help but step back.
"Yeah, I had him sprinkle that platinum powder in the flowers. So what? You just had an allergic reaction, and now you're fine," Mia shot back at Margaret, her eyes blazing.
With all the evidence out there, Mia couldn't deny it anymore. She thought it was just an allergy, no biggie.
"Hold your horses. This is just the first time you've messed with me," Margaret said, her voice icy but with a slight smirk. "There are still three more times."
She was gonna make sure Mia paid for all of it.
"The rest ain't on me," Mia tried one last time. "Skylar did those. She was jealous and wanted to hurt you."
Skylar, fuming, snapped at Mia, "Quit lying and trying to pin this on me!"
By now, Skylar realized that Mia had been pulling the strings all along.
Mia wanted to hurt Margaret and frame Skylar at the same time. Two birds, one stone. She was seriously twisted. But now, she was busted by Margaret in front of everyone, and it was all backfiring on her.
Margaret's eyes locked onto the prop guy, and she said coldly, "You loosened the screws on the swing to hurt me. That's intentional injury. If you spill the truth and rat out the real mastermind, I might let you off the hook."
The prop guy hesitated, glancing at Mia. Mia shot him a warning look. The prop guy shivered, took a deep breath, and said, "What I said before was true. Ms. Tate told me to do it."
Seeing he still wouldn't come clean, Margaret narrowed her eyes, grabbed the check, and said coldly, "You said Skylar gave you this check to bribe you, right?"
"Yes," the prop guy nodded quickly.
"And Skylar signed it herself, right?" Margaret pressed.
"Yes," he confirmed.
"We'll see if it's really Skylar's signature after an analysis," Margaret said with a sly smile.
Just then, a young guy with bleached blonde hair strolled over and whistled at Margaret. "Hey, Ms. Scott, we meet again."
Everyone turned to look, and someone recognized him as the famous hacker Anthony.
"It's Anthony," someone shouted.
"Wow, I finally get to see Anthony in person. Didn't think he'd be so young."
"Did Ms. Scott bring him in for the handwriting analysis?"
Margaret smiled. "Sorry to trouble you again."
"Ms. Scott, you're too kind. It's no trouble at all." Anthony dropped his playful look and got serious.
Margaret handed him the check. "Can you check if this is Skylar's real signature?"
Anthony took the check and nodded. "No problem."
He opened his laptop, typed in some code, and the final result popped up: [No match!]
Anthony pointed at the screen. "Based on my analysis, the signature on the check ain't Skylar's. It's a straight-up forgery."
"Thanks," Margaret said, nodding at Anthony.
She scanned the crowd, finally locking eyes with the prop guy. "Anyone got a problem with Anthony's analysis? This check was signed by someone trying to frame Skylar."
Margaret's tone turned icy as she stared down the prop guy. "Got anything to say for yourself?"
Before the prop guy could even open his mouth, Arlene suddenly stepped up and said, "Ms. Scott, I'll spill the beans! It was Mia who put me up to it!"
Margaret was taken aback by Arlene's sudden confession. She looked at Arlene. "Just say it."
Arlene nodded, her voice trembling. "Ms. Scott, I'll tell you everything. Mia orchestrated the whole thing. She had me drug the horse you were riding and swap out the prop knife. I'm so sorry!"
"Mia, what the hell are you saying?" Mia snapped, her eyes blazing as Arlene spilled the truth.
"Ms. Davis, I can't lie anymore. I need to come clean." Arlene's eyes welled up with tears.
"It's my fault. I did it for the money and wronged you, Ms. Scott. But I did it because my brother has a severe heart condition, and the doctor said he needed surgery or he'd be in danger. I couldn't come up with that kind of cash, so..." Arlene choked up.
"Ms. Davis came to me, offered a big chunk of money, and promised to get a top doctor for my brother if I helped her. For my brother, I had no choice. He's only ten. I couldn't watch him suffer. I didn't want to lose him," Arlene said, tears streaming down her face.
"But these past days, I haven't slept a wink. Nightmares every night. I was wrong, Ms. Scott. I'm so sorry for what I did for money," Arlene pleaded, her voice breaking.
Margaret frowned and turned her cold gaze to Mia. "Mia, got anything to say now?"
"I didn't do it. She's lying!" Mia's face went pale, but she stubbornly held her ground. She never thought Arlene would turn on her and spill the truth in front of everyone.
Mia felt cornered, her fists clenched tight.
Before Mia could say another word, a man in a black suit and gold-rimmed glasses stormed over and barked at her, "Shut up!"
"Matthew?" Mia looked up, shocked.
Margaret narrowed her eyes. If she wasn't mistaken, this guy was Mia's brother, Matthew Davis.
"Mia, how could you do this? You've really let me down!" Matthew frowned, his gaze icy as he looked at Mia. "Apologize to Ms. Scott right now!"
