Chapter 231 Identity Exposed
"It's not like that, Lyle. I can explain what went down." Mia bit her lip. She'd always wanted to clear things up with Lyle, but he never gave her the time of day.
"Explain?" Margaret sneered, stepping closer. "You gonna tell me you weren't hooking up with other guys while you were abroad?"
"That's BS!" Mia shot back, eyes blazing. But deep down, she felt a twinge of doubt.
"You gonna deny you cheated on Lyle?" Margaret's voice got louder, cutting through the tension.
Mia had been badmouthing her for ages, so Margaret had dug up dirt on Mia's infidelity.
Out of respect for Lyle, she hadn't spilled the beans. But now, with Lyle speaking up, she wasn't holding back.
Mia was rattled by Margaret's fierce vibe. Just as she was about to say something, Margaret whipped out some photos.
The pics showed Mia in all sorts of compromising positions. And the dudes with her are all different. One pic even had Mia with a bunch of guys from different backgrounds.
Seeing those scandalous photos, everyone was floored.
Someone pointed at Mia and started whispering, "Who would've thought the sweet pianist was like this?"
"Looks can be deceiving! And she had the nerve to call Margaret a homewrecker when she's the cheater!"
"No wonder Lyle dumped her. Who'd wanna be played like that?"
Mia's eyes went wide as she stared at the screen, her face going ghostly pale.
"Turn it off, turn it off! Stop taking pics, stop it!" After a few seconds, Mia snapped out of it and yelled in panic.
Seeing her mission accomplished, Margaret turned off the photos. "Mia, you did this to yourself."
"Margaret, you set me up!" Mia's face twisted with rage, her eyes burning with fury. Her carefully crafted image as a top pianist was shattered in one night. And the one who wrecked her rep was Margaret.
Margaret smirked. "You set yourself up."
If Mia hadn't been so shameless, pestering Lyle and trash-talking her, Margaret wouldn't have bothered to expose her. Now, this mess was all on Mia.
"Margaret, how dare you! I'll fight you to the end!" Mia, almost hysterical, lunged at Margaret.
Lyle stepped in, shielding Margaret and shoving Mia to the ground.
"Lyle, are you really this cold to me?" Mia hit the floor, eyes full of hurt.
Bruce called for security and pointed at the disheveled Mia, saying sternly, "Get Ms. Davis outta here."
Two security guards stepped up and dragged the pale-faced Mia away.
"Sorry about that. Just a little drama." Bruce cleared his throat and smiled. "Let's not let it ruin the night. Just keep going."
He yanked Lyle over with one hand and grabbed Margaret with the other. "Lyle's proposal just now was seriously heartwarming. I'm sure Ms. Scott felt it too, right?"
With that, Bruce placed Margaret's hand into Lyle's. "Ms. Scott, say yes to Lyle! I'm sure everyone here is dying to see this proposal go through."
Margaret rubbed her temples, feeling a bit speechless. She thought Mia's meltdown would put the proposal on ice. But nope, Bruce was pushing even harder.
Right then, Lyle dropped to one knee, holding her hand tight with one hand and a ring with the other, looking at her with those sincere, hopeful eyes.
And Bruce was on the sidelines, egging her on to say yes. Margaret felt totally stuck.
Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed William. He stood up abruptly, his cold gaze like an icy blade aimed straight at her.
The tension coming off William made everyone around him shiver.
Margaret felt a headache coming on. She knew if William stepped in, things would get even messier. So, she couldn't hesitate any longer!
Taking a deep breath, Margaret smiled and spoke clearly, "Actually, Lyle and I are colleagues, partners, and close friends who’ve worked hard together."
Hearing Margaret's words, everyone in the audience looked at each other, puzzled.
Under their suspicious gazes, Margaret continued slowly, "I am an investor in Starlight Entertainment, which means I am the owner of Starlight Entertainment and Lyle's partner."
Margaret's words instantly shocked the crowd.
Everyone looked at her in astonishment. They'd all heard rumors that the Pennington Family had faced a financial crisis years ago and was on the brink of bankruptcy.
A mysterious wealthy investor had bailed out the Pennington Family and established Starlight Entertainment.
Lyle had then become the CEO of Starlight Entertainment and, through two years of hard work, had become a globally renowned movie star.
But the mysterious owner of Starlight Entertainment had always been super low-key, with no reports about them. No one even knew if the owner was male or female.
And now, Margaret was publicly announcing that she was the low-key and mysterious owner of Starlight Entertainment. People were surprised that the owner was such a young woman.
William, who had stopped in his tracks, was also deeply shocked.
He couldn't help but think, 'Margaret is the investor in Starlight Entertainment and Lyle's boss? So, the wealthy woman Lyle has been chasing all along is actually Margaret?
