Chapter 427 Stay Away from Lyle
Lakeside Hospital.
Lyle lay weakly on the hospital bed, his wounds aching faintly, but his heart hurt even more.
All along, he had believed that Margaret and William had truly fallen out, that they had really broken up.
And now, William was getting engaged to Angel. Even though William's actions were pretty scummy and unfair to Margaret, Lyle couldn't help but feel a bit happy about it.
Because it meant he had another chance to pursue Margaret.
However, at today's engagement ceremony, Lyle realized that everything had been his own wishful thinking.
Margaret and William's breakup was just part of their plan.
The two of them worked together seamlessly, exposing Angel's scheme in front of everyone.
William's public declaration of love to Margaret, and the kiss he placed on her forehead, deeply pierced Lyle's heart.
He had no chance anymore.
Margaret's image and smile kept flashing in Lyle's mind, causing his heart to ache slightly.
In a daze, he seemed to hear Margaret's voice.
William drove Margaret to the hospital.
"Wait here, I'll go up and check on Lyle," Margaret said as she got out of the car, turning to William.
"I'll go up with you," William said, grabbing Margaret's hand.
William knew all too well about Lyle's feelings for Margaret, and he didn't want to give them any chance to be alone.
Seeing William's petty behavior, Margaret sighed inwardly, "Alright then."
The two of them arrived at the hospital room and found the doctor.
"Doctor, how is Lyle? Is he okay?" Margaret asked.
The doctor replied respectfully, "Ms. Scott, Lyle is fine. It's just that his old wound has reopened. He needs to rest more."
"Okay, I understand. Thank you, doctor," Margaret said, breathing a sigh of relief and thanking the doctor.
She knocked on the hospital room door.
"Come in," Lyle's low voice came from inside.
Margaret pushed the door open and walked in, with William following behind her.
When Lyle saw Margaret, a smile involuntarily appeared on his face.
But the next second, he saw William behind her, and his smile froze.
Margaret walked to the bedside and looked down at Lyle. "Lyle, are you okay?"
"Nothing serious, thanks for asking," Lyle said, his eyes dimming a bit.
"If it's nothing serious, then we can leave now," William said coldly from the side.
Margaret was exasperated. Who visits a patient like this? They had only been there for a minute.
"You go wait outside. I have something to say to Lyle," Margaret said, pushing William out of the room.
"Margaret, do you have something to say to me?" Lyle's eyes brightened when he saw Margaret push William out.
Margaret nodded, "Why did you insist on going to the set so late and end up like this?"
"I didn't want to delay the progress of the new film," Lyle said calmly.
"But now that you're injured, aren't you delaying it even more?" Margaret frowned, looking down at Lyle on the bed. "Can't you take better care of yourself?"
"Sorry, I didn't expect to get hurt," Lyle said apologetically.
He just felt so miserable inside and desperately wanted to find something to do.
"Margaret, don't worry. This injury is nothing," Lyle said, feeling a warm current flow through his heart as he saw Margaret's concern.
"I can go to the set tomorrow as usual," Lyle said, struggling to get up. "I can be discharged now."
"No way, you need to rest up here tomorrow!" Margaret pressed down on Lyle's shoulder.
William, waiting outside, was getting more and more annoyed. What could Margaret possibly need to say to Lyle alone that she had to kick him out of the room?
Thinking this, William couldn't help but push the door open again.
The scene that greeted him was Margaret with her hands on Lyle's shoulders.
What was Margaret doing, being so close to another guy?
William's face darkened, and he strode over to Margaret, pulling her into his arms.
"It's late. We should go," William said coldly, his tone commanding.
A wave of jealousy hit, and Margaret knew William was jealous again.
She sighed inwardly and said to Lyle, "So it's settled. You rest in the hospital for a few more days until you're fully healed before going back to work."
"I don't want to delay the film's progress," Lyle insisted.
"I'm the boss, and I make the decisions," Margaret said firmly, frowning.
With that, Margaret and William turned and left the room.
Feeling William's displeasure beside her, Margaret muttered, "So petty."
"What did you say?" William stopped, his deep eyes flashing with anger.
"Nothing," Margaret quickly shook her head, pulling William's arm. "Let's go home."
But William suddenly pressed Margaret against the hallway wall, his hands on either side of her shoulders, trapping her.
"What are you doing?" Margaret asked, bewildered.
Before she could finish, William's overwhelming kiss descended on her.
"Let's finish what we started," William's deep voice said, sealing Margaret's lips.
Margaret's heart skipped a beat.
This was a hospital.
She tried to push William away, but he didn't budge.
Margaret's resistance only fueled William's desire to conquer.
His tongue pried open Margaret's lips and teeth, exploring inside.
Their breaths intertwined, and the faint scent of tobacco from William filled Margaret's senses, making her blush.
"Stop, that's enough," Margaret said weakly, leaning against the wall.
William finally let her go, his tone carrying a warning, "Stay away from Lyle next time!"
Margaret was exasperated.
She and Lyle were only working together, and William was being irrationally jealous.
Just as she was about to speak, a young woman's voice called out, "Margaret, do you know which room Mr. Pennington is in?"
Margaret quickly pushed William away and looked in the direction of the voice. It was Seraphina.
She pointed to Lyle's room door, "Right there."
"Thank you," Seraphina said, then asked with concern, "Is Mr. Pennington okay?"
Margaret smiled, "He's fine, just a reopened wound. Are you visiting him this late?"
