Chapter 116 Margaret Must Be Fired
The buzz about the Fisher Group's jewelry being radioactive was blowing up everywhere, causing a major ruckus.
"Boss, should we get someone to squash this news?" Peter asked William, looking for some direction.
"No need," William said, rubbing his temples with a serious look. "It's already out there. If we try to pull it back now, it'll just make us look shady."
Peter nodded, getting the point. "Got it."
"The top priority now is to get to the bottom of this, fast," William said, frowning.
"Alright, I'll get someone on it right away and get answers ASAP," Peter said, looking determined.
Margaret had already pulled the plug on the "Ice and Fire" jewelry sales and ordered tests on all the products. Soon enough, Peter came back with some findings.
"We've got some preliminary results." Peter handed William the info he'd gathered over the past few days.
"What's the scoop?" Margaret, standing nearby, asked impatiently.
Peter spoke in a low voice, "Our investigation shows that the victims did buy our 'Ice and Fire' jewelry, and they got them through legit channels with real receipts."
He paused for a sec, then continued. "The stuff they bought was tested and, yeah, it had radioactive elements."
"How the hell did that happen?" Margaret squinted. "So they got poisoned from wearing our jewelry."
Peter nodded. "Looks like it."
Margaret rubbed her temples, not expecting this at all. She'd thought someone was using fake jewelry to set them up. But now it looked like the problem was real.
"Have you figured out why the jewelry has radioactive elements?" William asked coldly, flipping through the documents.
Peter shook his head. "Nope. But there's something fishy. All the bad jewelry was sold in Fleurancia, and it came from the Fleurancia branch factory."
Margaret thought for a moment and called the inspector in charge of testing the products from the Fleurancia branch. "This is Margaret. Got the test results?"
"Hey, Margaret. I've got inspectors testing everything, and we should have results soon," the person in charge said over the phone.
Margaret's tone got more serious. "Let me know as soon as you have the results."
"Sure thing!" The person in charge agreed quickly.
After hanging up, Margaret looked at William. "Seems like there's a problem with the Fleurancia factory. But it could also be a setup, with someone tampering with the jewelry to frame us."
Just as Margaret finished talking, before William could respond, Daisy and Abigail stormed in, both looking pissed.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" William frowned.
Daisy stormed over to Margaret and slammed a stack of newspapers on the table. "Margaret, perfect timing. Check this out!"
Margaret glanced down. The papers were plastered with headlines about the radioaction scandal. She forced a smile and said seriously, "We're already on it."
"On it?" Daisy sneered, "Margaret, I've always said you're bad luck. This whole mess started because of you. You've brought this disaster to the Fisher Group, and you still have the nerve to stick around?"
Margaret shot back, "It's still under investigation. We don't know the full story yet, and you're already blaming me. Isn't that a bit premature?"
Daisy scoffed. "You're the head of the 'Ice and Fire' project, right? Now that there's a problem, isn't it your responsibility?"
Abigail jumped in, "Exactly. Margaret, if you have any decency, you should resign right now. Don't hang around waiting to be kicked out!"
Margaret smirked. "Yeah, I'm in charge of the 'Ice and Fire' project. By your logic, William is the CEO of the Fisher Group and my boss. So, if there's a problem with the jewelry, shouldn't he also resign?"
Peter, standing nearby, couldn't help but twitch his lips. Margaret had guts.
"You!" Daisy, unable to out-argue Margaret, turned to William. "William, look at her! You have to fire Margaret today!"
"Mom, stay out of the company's business. I'll handle it," William said impatiently, loosening his tie. He stood up, walked to the door, and opened it, signaling for them to leave. "I have things to do. You and Abigail should go back."
"Aunt is just worried about you," Abigail said, clearly annoyed that William was siding with Margaret. "Margaret's mess will ruin the Fisher Group sooner or later."
William's cold gaze swept over Abigail. "Don't think you're part of the Fisher family!"
"William, you..." Abigail's heart sank bit by bit. She was adopted, but how was she any worse than that country bumpkin Margaret!
"William, you'll regret keeping Margaret in the Fisher Group!" Daisy glared at William angrily and left, dragging Abigail with her.
"Margaret, don't mind her. My mom's just like that," William said to Margaret with an apologetic look.
Margaret smiled and shook her head. "No worries."
Just then, Margaret's phone rang. She looked down and saw it was the inspector from Fleurancia calling.
Margaret quickly answered the call, "What's the update? Got the test results?"
"Yes." The inspector's voice came through the phone. "Margaret, we've tested all the products from the Fleurancia branch, and some of them do contain radioactive elements."
Margaret's eyes turned cold. "Okay, I understand."
After hanging up, Margaret, with a serious expression, said to William, "The test results are in. The problem is definitely with the Fleurancia branch factory."
