Chapter 16: Mr. Fisher, Desired by Women

Without overthinking, Margaret took the stray dog to the vet.

Although she had rushed out to save the puppy's life, its front leg was still injured by the car.

Margaret checked her watch; she was definitely going to be late. So, she dialed William's number.

"What's up?" William's deep, clear voice came from the other end of the line.

"I've got something to take care of. I'll be late for work this morning." Margaret requested leave.

Before she could finish, the voice on the other end interrupted. "You don't need to tell me about such trivial matters."

With that, the call was impatiently hung up.

Margaret pursed her lips. William was really aloof, not even wanting to say a word more to her.

Since she had already asked for leave, Margaret had the vet give the stray dog a thorough check-up. Fortunately, it was just a flesh wound and nothing serious.

"Can it stay for observation?" Margaret was still a bit worried.

The vet smiled. "No problem."

Margaret paid $500 and left the puppy at the veterinary hospital. She planned to find a dog lover to adopt it once it recovered.

After making sure the puppy was in good hands, Margaret hurried to the Fisher Group office building, arriving just before eleven.

"You still remember you work here? Look at the time!" As soon as Margaret stepped into the secretary's office, she saw Ella storming towards her.

"There was an accident," Margaret said calmly.

"An accident?" Ella sneered, her mocking gaze falling on Margaret. "Skipping work on your second day? You really are arrogant, aren't you?"

Facing Ella's accusations, Margaret remained composed. "First, I was late, I did not skip work; Second, I asked for leave, so it doesn't count as being late."

"How dare you argue with me? When did you ask me for time off?" Ella pointed at Margaret, her anger intensifying. "Margaret, you skipped work without reason. You're fired!"

Sensing Ella's strong hostility, Margaret calmly brushed aside Ella's pointing hand, her lips curling slightly in a mocking smile. "I asked Mr. Fisher for leave. Are you saying he doesn't have the authority to approve my leave?"

Embarrassed by Margaret's public retort, Ella felt her dignity was at stake. She grabbed Margaret and dragged her towards the CEO's office. "You're lying! Let's go talk to Mr. Fisher and sort this out!"

"Fine." Margaret agreed readily.

After being fooled by Ella last night, Margaret was looking for a chance to report the former's misdeeds.

Ella dragged Margaret to the CEO's office door, tidied her hair and clothes, and carefully touched up her makeup before knocking.

Compared to Ella, Margaret looked quite disheveled.

To save the stray dog, her originally neat professional suit was now wrinkled, and her chest was stained with mud from the dog.

Seeing the shy and admiring look on Ella's face, Margaret finally understood why Ella was always targeting her.

Ella liked William.

And she just happened to be William's fiancée.

No wonder Ella was always targeting Margaret at work.

She saw Margaret as a rival in love!

"Come in." William's magnetic voice came through. Ella put on what she thought was her most charming smile and pushed open the door.

As soon as she walked in, the smile on Ella's face froze.

Margaret looked closely and saw a woman standing next to William.

With chestnut-colored wavy hair, a red short skirt, exquisite makeup, she looked both fashionable and seductive.

Wasn't this the woman who almost hit the stray dog and yelled at her on the road this morning?

"Sir, this is the main product for next season," the woman said, as she stood close to William, her seductive eyes flashing with infatuation.

Margaret understood now. She was an employee of the Fisher Group, no wonder she looked familiar.

And judging by her behavior, she was probably another admirer of William.

Just how many women were after William?

Margaret frowned slightly, her somewhat displeased gaze falling on the tall man.

Dressed in a black Armani suit, his perfect figure was showcased to the fullest. His high nose bridge, sexy thin lips, and the noble aura he exuded made him look like God's most perfect creation.

Indeed, William was handsome and wealthy, with the charm to make countless women fall for him.

But that didn't include Margaret.

She wasn't interested in a man who attracted so much female attention and was so arrogant.

Anyway, Margaret and he were only bound by a three-month engagement. Once the three months were over, they would break off the engagement.

It didn't matter how many women coveted William. It had nothing to do with her.
