Chapter 232 Just Publicity

William's eyes were like dark, stormy seas, cold and intense.

When he saw Lyle popping the question to Margaret, he nearly lost it. Just as he was about to shut it down, Mia barged in and caused a ruckus.

After the chaos, Lyle picked up where he left off with his proposal.

William got up, ready to drag Margaret off the stage, but then Margaret dropped a bombshell.

With everyone in shock, Margaret kept her cool and said, "Actually, Lyle's proposal tonight was a stunt we cooked up to hype Starlight Entertainment's new show."

'A big, fancy proposal just to plug a new show? Seriously?' The crowd went nuts.

Margaret smirked and added, "Starlight Entertainment's got a big period drama coming up, 'Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses,' and I'm making a cameo. The proposal was just promo, and it looks like it worked."

She shot Lyle a cold look and asked, "Right, Lyle?"

Lyle's face went stiff. The light in his eyes faded. He looked crushed.

He thought proposing to Margaret at the awards, in front of everyone, would leave her no choice but to say yes. But Margaret blew up his plan and used it as an excuse to turn him down. In the end, he just wasn't good enough.

A few seconds later, Lyle stood up, bitterness in his voice, and said, "Yeah, the proposal was just for promoting our new show."

Margaret smiled. "Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses is Starlight Entertainment's big project starting next month, with Lyle as the lead. As for the female lead, that's a surprise. Stay tuned."

"Show us some love!" Lyle echoed, forcing a smile. Being a top actor, he hid his disappointment well.

"So, Lyle and Margaret's epic proposal was just a promo for Starlight Entertainment's new show! Who saw that coming?" Bruce felt bad for Lyle for a moment, then laughed and said, "Looks like the promo worked. Now, let's get back to the awards."

Lyle, clutching his trophy, walked off the stage looking downcast.

Margaret let out a small sigh of relief. Lyle's sudden, crazy proposal was finally dealt with. But she had also outed herself.

As she walked past William, she couldn't help but glance at him.

Their eyes met, and Margaret felt William's intensity. She looked away and followed Lyle back to their seats.

The awards ceremony finally wrapped up.

As Margaret and Lyle got up to leave, the reporters, who had been waiting, swarmed them.

With cameras flashing, they crowded around Margaret and eagerly asked, "Ms. Scott, why did you choose to reveal you're the boss of Starlight Entertainment today?"

Margaret smiled slightly. "Today’s special. Our Starlight Entertainment artists bagged the most awards ever. As the boss, I’m stoked."

"Ms. Scott, was tonight's proposal really just a promo for the new drama?"

Margaret nodded. "Absolutely."

"Are you and Lyle really not a thing? There’ve been tons of rumors about you two." The reporter pushed.

Margaret kept her cool smile. "Like I said, Lyle and I are just colleagues and great partners. Those rumors? Totally baseless."

"Got it. So, Ms. Scott, what role are you playing in 'Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses'? Any scenes with Lyle?" Another reporter squeezed in.

"No spoilers. You'll have to wait and see," Margaret answered patiently. It was her first time being grilled as the boss of Starlight Entertainment, after all.

Ten minutes later, "Alright, it's late. Thanks for your interest, but that’s it for today," Margaret said coolly, checking the time.

As soon as she finished, Lyle's bodyguards stepped in, pulling the reluctant reporters away and escorting Margaret and Lyle to the car.

Grace's jealous eyes were glued to Lyle and Margaret’s backs. "Lucy, do you really think Margaret owns Starlight Entertainment? How is that even possible?!"

Lucy stared coldly at Margaret.

She had thought Margaret was just some country bumpkin, shamelessly clinging to William for cash. But it turned out that Margaret was the big boss behind Starlight Entertainment, with serious clout.

No wonder every time she tried to mess with Margaret, Margaret shut her down easily. She had totally underestimated her.

Seeing Lucy stay silent, Grace fumed, "Margaret, that shameless bumpkin."

"Enough, how could the owner of Starlight Entertainment be a bumpkin?" Lucy snapped.

Grace glanced at Lucy cautiously. "Then why did Margaret pretend to be a bumpkin before? To act all pitiful in front of William and get sympathy? Now that she’s outed herself, does she want William back?"

Lucy's face darkened. "Hmph, no matter who Margaret is, I won’t let her take William away!"

Grace nodded. "Right, Lucy, William will definitely be yours! But, Daisy was against William being with Margaret before because she was a bumpkin and not presentable. Now that Margaret’s got serious influence, do you think Daisy will..."

"No!" Lucy cut her off. "Margaret’s already pissed Daisy off. Daisy hates her and would never let her get back with William."

Pausing, Lucy’s eyes gleamed with malice. "Besides, we don’t even need to do anything to drive Margaret away from William."

"Lucy, you got a plan?" Grace asked eagerly.

Lucy sneered, "You'll see when the time comes!"

No matter who Margaret was, she wasn’t getting off easy.
