Chapter 47 Did He Do It on Purpose?

Margaret realized she had messed up and cleared her throat, saying, "I picked up some Taekwondo back in school."

"Taekwondo?" William chuckled, not saying much more.

At the hospital, the doc gave William a once-over. Just like Margaret thought, his hand injury was just a scratch. Luckily, his leg wasn't busted from Margaret's kick—just a bruise that'd heal in a few days.

Margaret finally let out a sigh of relief. "Good thing you're alright."

William gave her a look. "What, worried about me?"

"Got a problem with that? You did get hurt saving me." Margaret pouted, thinking to herself, even though it was kinda unnecessary.

"This box of meds is for external use, three times a day, and change it regularly. These two boxes are for internal use, one dose in the morning and one at night," the doc explained.

"Got it, thanks." Margaret jotted everything down.

By the time they left the hospital, it was already early morning.

William glanced at Margaret. "Head to Water Moon Estate."

"Not going home?" Margaret asked, confused.

William gave a faint smile. "It's super late."

Truth was, he didn't want Daisy to know he got hurt, especially since it was for saving Margaret.

He didn't want Daisy to target Margaret.

And, he had a selfish reason; whenever Margaret went back to the Fisher family estate, she'd hide in the guest room, making it tough for him to see her.

William suddenly wanted some alone time with her.

Maybe Bradley was right; he should try to get to know her better.

The night streets were dead quiet.

The colorful, changing neon lights outside shone through the car window, casting a cool glow on Margaret.

William half-closed his eyes, leaning back in his seat. His peripheral vision never left the girl, who was focused on driving.

Margaret gripped the steering wheel tightly, driving when she suddenly heard William's smooth voice. "Ella got canned. What do you think about that?"

Margaret was a bit thrown off, thought for a moment, and replied, "She had it coming. Plus, she stabbed you tonight. You wouldn't just let that slide, right?"

Margaret's thoughts were totally different from William's. He turned his head, his deep eyes on her. "I mean, I'm thinking of promoting you to head of the secretarial department."

Even though Margaret had only been with the company for half a month, her skills were top-notch.

William wanted to give Margaret more chances.

But Margaret shot it down without a second thought. "No thanks."

William was taken aback. "Why not?"

Being the head of the Fisher Group's department was a gig many would kill for.

But Margaret just said: No thanks?

Margaret said coolly, "In a little over two months, our engagement will be over, and I'll be outta here. You'll have to pick a new head again. Better to choose someone now who you like and who can stick around."

"Where will you go?" William's face darkened.

"Anywhere, as long as it's not with the Fisher family," Margaret said, all chill.

She had a ton of stuff lined up for then.

William's face got all tense, but he kept quiet, feeling super annoyed.

Did Margaret not give a damn about him?

Half an hour later, they rolled up to Water Moon Estate.

This place was swanky, right in the heart of Ravenford, owned by the Fisher Group, and super close to the office.

William would crash here when he pulled late nights at work.

Margaret stopped the car. "We're here."

But William didn't budge.

Margaret turned to look and saw William leaning back, eyes shut, breathing steady, looking like he was out cold.

Margaret gave him a nudge. "William, we're here. Wake up!"

William felt like he was back in that dark room.

Threatened, intimidated, and beaten by a bunch of thugs, he was wiped out and felt like he couldn't hang on any longer.

Marjorie grabbed his hand urgently. "Don't sleep, wake up! They went out. Let's bounce now!"

Half-awake, William heard that voice again. "William, wake up!"

Marjorie! It was his Marjorie calling him!

The scene shifted, and he was holding Marjorie's hand, running through the forest. "Hurry, faster, run faster!"

Ahead was a cliff, and behind were the bad guys.

"William, I can't run anymore."

He watched helplessly as Marjorie fell into the abyss.

"Marjorie!" William jolted awake, grabbing Margaret's hand. "Marjorie, don't leave me!"

"William, what's wrong?" Margaret was freaked out by William's reaction.

What was up with him now?

From his words, it seemed like Marjorie had left him.

Margaret thought, 'Why? She didn't like William? Rejected him? That seems off.'

With William's looks, status, and position, he was almost perfect and hard for any girl to resist.

Plus, William seemed head over heels for Marjorie. Such a catch, who could turn him down?

So why?

William loved her so much. How could she leave?

Could it be that Marjorie was no longer around?

She thought, 'As the saying goes, the unattainable is always the best, so William couldn't forget her.'

The more Margaret thought about it, the more it made sense, so she didn't push it.

With cold sweat on his forehead, William wiped it off and then went back to his usual cold and distant self. "Nothing, just a nightmare."

"We're here. Get out of the car." Margaret opened the door.

William pointed to his injured leg, smirking. "Help me."

Margaret was speechless.

"You kicked me." William raised an eyebrow, looking all justified.

"Fine." Margaret grudgingly helped William out of the car.

After locking the car, Margaret helped William into the elevator, carrying most of his weight and soon panting. They finally reached the closed door.

Margaret looked up at William. "Where's the key?"

William pointed to his pocket. "Get it yourself."

"You can't get it?" Margaret rolled her eyes. She was already tired of supporting him, so how could she have a free hand to get the key?

William shook his injured right hand, glancing at Margaret with a half-smile, his lips curling into a cold smirk. "I got hurt saving you."

Fine!

Was he doing this on purpose?
