Chapter 150 The New CEO

"But we got no proof," Margaret said, her lips tight and her brows all scrunched up. "It's been ages. Any clues from back then are probably long gone."

William's fists clenched, his voice icy and firm. "Doesn't matter how long it's been. If he did it, there'll be something left behind!"

"Yeah, but right now, we gotta bust Ulysses for locking up Bradley and trying to grab power." Determination sparkled in Margaret's eyes. No way was she letting that scumbag Ulysses win!

William turned to Margaret, pulling her into a tight hug, his eyes full of love. "Margaret, thanks for sticking with me through all this."

Leaning into his embrace, Margaret playfully tapped his forehead. "Duh, I'm your fiancée. We're in this together, good times and bad."

William held her close, his voice serious as he made a promise. "Margaret, I'll never let you down."

A warm feeling spread through Margaret. She looked up into William's deep eyes. "You better not."

"Promise!" With that, William kissed her deeply.

Peter got back to the Fisher Group and was immediately stopped by Ulysses' assistant. "Peter, Mr. Young wants to see you."

Peter nodded. "Got it."

He took the elevator up to the eighteenth floor, to the CEO's office. It used to be William's office, but now Ulysses was living it up in there.

Peter gathered his thoughts and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Ulysses' voice called out.

Peter pushed the door open and asked calmly, "You wanted to see me?"

Ulysses was lounging in William's chair. Seeing Peter, he looked up. "Have you thought about what I told you?"

Remembering William's instructions, Peter pretended to hesitate. "Still thinking about it."

"What's there to think about?" Ulysses stood up and walked over to Peter. "Smart people know when to roll with the punches."

Seeing Peter's conflicted look, Ulysses continued, "You know the deal, Peter. William's plane crashed, and there's been no word for days. He's probably gone. Bradley's really sick, and he asked me to run the Fisher Group for William. Right now, no one but me can be CEO."

As he spoke, Ulysses slipped a check into Peter's hand. "If you vote for me at the press conference, this money's yours, and I'll make you vice president."

"Really?" Peter seemed convinced and took the check.

"Absolutely." Ulysses smirked confidently.

Two days later, it was time for Ulysses' press conference.

Margaret and William got up early. William texted Peter: [How's everything going?]

Peter shot back a quick reply: [All good!]

"How's it looking?" Margaret asked, walking over with a worried look.

William smiled, giving her a kiss on the forehead. "Everything's on track. Now we just wait for Ulysses to start his press conference."

"That's a relief," Margaret sighed. "I'll head to the press conference first. While he's busy, you go get Bradley."

"Got it." William nodded.

At exactly 2 PM, the press conference kicked off. The Fisher Group's conference hall was packed with reporters. Margaret, in disguise, slipped into the crowd and found a low-key spot. She and William had split up. She was there to scope things out, while William was off to the hospital to rescue Bradley.

Soon, the press conference officially began. Ulysses, all suited up, strutted onto the stage with his entourage, grinning like he owned the place. To everyone's surprise, Daisy followed Ulysses and took a seat next to him.

The host cleared his throat and smiled. "Welcome to the Fisher Group's press conference. First up, let's hear from Mr. Fisher's mother, Daisy."

'Daisy? What's she doing here?' Margaret thought, watching in surprise as Daisy, dressed in a black gown and high heels, walked to the center of the stage.

Clearing her throat, she began, "Good afternoon, everyone. I'm sure you've all heard the unfortunate news about my son. William's plane crashed into the sea on his way back from Fleurancia. It's been over half a month now, and despite sending out the best search and rescue team, there's still no news of William. His fate remains unknown. Given the current situation, after thorough discussion, the Fisher Group's board has decided to elect a new acting CEO."

As soon as Daisy finished speaking, the room buzzed with chatter. Though Daisy's words were careful, it was clear that William's chances of survival were slim. Otherwise, the Fisher Group wouldn't be in such a rush to elect a new CEO.

Plus, Daisy was William's mom. If even she was saying this, and dressed in black, it likely meant William was gone. The Fisher Group was probably keeping the news under wraps to avoid chaos.

Margaret's eyes grew colder at the murmurs around her. Even though Daisy and William didn't get along, Margaret had never thought Daisy would side with an outsider and back Ulysses.

She wondered, 'Do Daisy and Ulysses have some shady deal going on? That would explain why Ulysses could easily lock up Bradley.'

Margaret bit her lip, her expression icy. 'How crushed would William be to know his mom treated him like this?'

"Mrs. Fisher, does the board already have a candidate for the next CEO of the Fisher Group?" a reporter eagerly asked.

"Absolutely." Daisy smiled faintly and turned to Ulysses. "After a board vote, we unanimously elected Ulysses as the next acting CEO of the Fisher Group!"
