Chapter 344 The Maplewood Earthquake

Early in the morning, the brilliant sunlight shone on William through the glass window.

He groggily opened his eyes and found himself lying on Margaret's bed.

William rubbed his temples as the memories of last night gradually came back.

He remembered that he had attended the Clark Group's fiftieth anniversary celebration last night, only to be drugged by Lucy.

Fortunately, he had strong willpower and didn't fall into Lucy's trap, leaving at the critical moment.

Later, Peter brought him to Margaret's place.

At that moment, Margaret pushed the door open and entered. "You're awake?"

"Yeah." William nodded lightly.

Thinking of the things Margaret had said to him last night, William's face turned a bit grim.

"How are you feeling? Any better?" Margaret walked up to William and asked.

"Much better," William replied coldly.

Seeing his unpleasant expression, Margaret held his hand. "What's wrong?"

"Why did you reject me last night?" William's handsome face tightened, his tone displeased.

Margaret suddenly realized that he was angry about that.

She smiled. "Didn't I explain it to you last night? If you can't accept it, then I might have to reconsider our engagement."

William remained silent.

"Don't even think about it, you're mine," William extended his large hand, wrapped it around Margaret's shoulder, and declared dominantly.

He leaned in, his thin lips close to Margaret's ear. "I will respect you."

Leaning against William's chest and listening to his magnetic voice, Margaret suddenly felt a warm emotion.

She nodded slightly. "Thank you."

William reached out, playing with her hair, twirling it around his fingers. "I hope I can marry you soon."

Margaret smiled. "In your dreams."

She suddenly remembered something. "I have made breakfast. Try my cooking today."

A hint of surprise flashed in William's eyes. "Breakfast made especially for me?"

"Yes, especially for you." Margaret smiled.

She rarely cooked herself.

"Then I'm really in for a treat." William smiled satisfactorily..

"Get up quickly, I'll be waiting for you in the dining room." Margaret stood up, happiness quietly filling her heart.

After washing up, William went to the dining room.

On the dining table was a breakfast made with love by Margaret.

The slight displeasure from last night vanished at this moment.

William's heart was filled with happiness.

"Try it, see if you like it." Margaret placed a fried egg on William's plate.

William raised an eyebrow, his tone exaggerated. "Anything made by my wife is the best delicacy in the world."

Margaret rolled her eyes at him. "I am not your wife. Shameless!"

William chuckled. "Soon you will be."

"By the way, who drugged you last night?" Margaret changed the subject.

"Lucy." Thinking of last night, William's face darkened.

Margaret said, "I knew it was her."

William was momentarily stunned. "You guessed it?"

Margaret smiled and took out her phone, opening the headline news. "See for yourself."

William took the phone and looked down.

It was explosive news about Lucy fooling around with a male escort at the Clark Group's fiftieth anniversary.

"Lucy's reputation is completely ruined now." Margaret pursed her lips, thoughtfully. "Was that male escort arranged by you?"

Since Lucy drugged William, it didn't make sense for her to call a male escort.

Thinking about last night, Margaret guessed what had happened.

William handed the phone back to Margaret, sneering. "Just a small punishment."

"Lucy is genuinely in love with you. Aren't you afraid she'll be heartbroken?" Margaret joked.

"Are you jealous?" William laughed deeply.

"Of course not!" Margaret stuffed a piece of donut into William's mouth. "Eat up!"

"By the way, I need to leave for a few days." Margaret suddenly remembered.

William asked with concern, "Where to?"

"Going to Maplewood with Juniper," Margaret replied, "to get some answers from Alden."

At that moment, Margaret's phone suddenly rang.

Margaret picked it up and saw it was Juniper calling.

She must be urging her to go to the airport.

She quickly answered the call. "Juniper, wait for me. I'll come to the hotel after breakfast, and we'll go to the airport together."

But before she could finish, Juniper's panicked voice came through the phone. "Margaret, something terrible has happened. There's been a massive earthquake in Maplewood!"

Margaret was stunned. "What?"

"Alden just called me, saying there was a massive earthquake in Maplewood, and the buildings have collapsed. He's trapped under the rubble." Juniper cried.

"Really?" Margaret instinctively said, "How could there be an earthquake out of nowhere?"

"It's true! Alden just called me, but the call got cut off after a few words. I tried calling back, but I couldn't get through." Juniper was frantic. "I'm heading to the airport right now. I need to go to Maplewood immediately!"

"Juniper, don't panic. Wait for me at the hotel. I'll come to you right away." Margaret pondered. "If there's really been a massive earthquake in Maplewood, the flights will be grounded. Going to the airport won't help."

"Margaret, I'm so scared! What if something happens to Alden?" Juniper was so worried about Alden that she was almost incoherent.

"Wait for me!" Margaret hung up and was about to speak when she saw William handing her his phone with a serious expression. "Breaking news, there's been a massive earthquake in Maplewood."

"What? Juniper was telling the truth?" Margaret's heart skipped a beat.

There really was a massive earthquake in Maplewood.

According to Juniper, Alden was trapped under the rubble, which meant he was in grave danger.

Margaret's expression turned serious. She quickly gathered her things and headed for the door. "I'm going to find Juniper. William, arrange a plane for me. I need to go to Maplewood with Juniper."

"It's too dangerous." William took a long stride and followed her. "Margaret, don't go. I'll send someone else."

A 7.0 earthquake was no joke, and there would be many aftershocks. Going there recklessly was extremely dangerous.

"No way!" Margaret refused firmly. "I have to go."

Because she knew that if Alden was in danger, Juniper would definitely go.

She couldn't let Juniper go to such a dangerous place alone.

When she was in danger before, Juniper had risked her life to save her.

Now, no matter how dangerous it was, she had to stay by Juniper's side.

"I'll go with you." William saw Margaret's determination and could only compromise.
