Chapter 88 A Brilliant Comeback (Part 1)

In the dead of night, Margaret was sprawled out on the couch, eyes glued to her phone, where a bunch of folks were hurling all kinds of nasty comments at her. Some even went as far as to say they’d drag her down to the grave with them.

Everyone was hyped for tomorrow's livestream, itching to see how Ella would spill the tea on Margaret. Margaret smirked. She was kinda looking forward to it too.

Just then, her phone buzzed with a cheerful ringtone. She glanced down; it was Anthony.

"Ada, I got the dirt you wanted. Check your email," Anthony said.

Margaret nodded, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Nice."

"Ella's got some nerve messing with you. She must be nuts," Anthony scoffed. "Don't let 'em off easy!"

"Do I look like someone who would?" Margaret's voice was calm but had a chilling edge.

Anthony laughed, "When Ada's on the case, it's game over!"

Margaret chuckled. "You always know how to butter me up."

After hanging up, Margaret was about to dive into her email when a voice piped up from the doorway. "Who were you talking to?"

She looked up to see William leaning against the door frame, a faint smile playing on his lips.

Margaret jumped. She could’ve sworn she’d closed the door. How much had he heard? She hoped she hadn’t spilled anything about her other identity.

Sitting up straight, she asked coolly, "Why are you here? I thought I closed the door."

William strolled in, smirking confidently. "This is my house."

Margaret rolled her eyes. "Fair point."

William plopped down next to her, legs casually crossed. "Did you catch the news? Heard Ella's going live tomorrow."

"Yeah, that's the buzz," Margaret replied, unfazed.

"Not scared?" William's eyes bore into hers.

"I haven't done anything wrong. Why should I be scared?" Margaret's lips twisted into a mocking grin. "The ones who should be scared are the ones talking trash about me, right?"

"Exactly," William said flatly.

Any other woman would be freaking out, drowning in all the hate and lies. But Margaret? She was cool as a cucumber, like none of it even touched her. Her mental game was on point.

"Anything else? If not, I need to crash," Margaret said, itching to check Anthony's email.

William had planned to tell her not to sweat tomorrow's livestream, but now it seemed pointless. He gave her a long look, then stood up. "Get some rest."

After he left, Margaret quickly opened her email and scanned the info Anthony had sent. Her grin widened. That idiot Ella—tomorrow's livestream was gonna blow up in her face!

Bright and early the next morning, reporters from every media outlet swarmed the hospital entrance, desperate not to miss a single detail. As soon as visiting hours kicked off, the reporters swarmed into the ward like bees to honey.

Ella was lying there, looking all frail and sickly, while Abigail was hanging around, pretending to be the concerned visitor.

"Thanks for coming today," Ella said weakly, trying to sit up.

Abigail quickly jumped in to help her. "Take it easy."

The head entertainment reporter fired up the livestream. "Hey, everyone. Bet you're all dying to know what's been going down between Fisher Group's Margaret Scott and ex-employee Ella Lewis. What's the real story? We're here in Ella's ward to get the scoop straight from the source."

First up, the reporter turned to Abigail. "Abigail, word is Margaret's engaged to William. What's your take on that?"

Abigail cleared her throat, ready to spill. "That's just gossip. You know who my cousin is, right? No way he'd be engaged to someone so heartless. The Fisher family has a rep to protect; we wouldn't be caught dead with a murderer."

"Got it." The reporters nodded, relieved. They didn't want to tick off William.

With that cleared up, they zeroed in on Ella. "Miss Lewis, can you walk us through what happened at Lover's Lake? Our viewers are really worried about you."

Ella nodded weakly, eyes all teary. "Thanks for your concern. I was supposed to meet a friend at Lover's Lake, but she bailed last minute. Since I was already there, I decided to take a stroll. Out of nowhere, I bumped into Margaret. She started cursing at me, telling me to die, and then she just shoved me into the water!"

Ella finished her sob story, dabbing at her tears.

The cameras kept flashing as the reporters pressed on, "Why did Margaret push you?"

Ella's eyes filled with more tears. "When I worked at Fisher Group, Margaret was always jealous and hated me. I never thought she'd go so far as to push me into the lake! I can't swim, so I was struggling and screaming for help, while Margaret just stood there, looking all evil!"

Abigail chimed in. "That's right. I was at Lover's Lake with a friend that day, and we saw Margaret push Ella into the water."

"Unbelievable! Just as everyone thought, Margaret pushed Ella on purpose. We believe anyone who commits a crime will face justice. It might be slow, but it always comes!" the reporter declared.

The livestream chat blew up with likes and comments, and the hate for Margaret hit an all-time high.

Just then, Margaret walked into the ward, catching the tail end of the reporter's speech. She strode in, eyes cold as ice, and stared down at the fake-crying Ella on the bed. "Well said! Justice will always come. If you commit a crime, you will be punished. Right, Ella?"
