Chapter 419 A One-Person Ceremony
"William, you're finally here. I was so scared."
Angel was genuinely terrified. She clung tightly to William's sleeve, crying helplessly as if she were using every ounce of her strength.
William's eyes darkened for a moment. He paused, then gently patted her back, soothing her, "It's okay now. Everything's fine."
Abigail stood nearby, frozen in place, even forgetting to turn off her phone. She watched William comforting Angel, her eyes filled with jealousy and resentment. She couldn't understand why William would be interested in such an unremarkable woman.
Angel cried for a long time before her emotions gradually calmed down. She lifted her head slightly, her eyes red and filled with hatred as she stared at Abigail.
"William, it was her! She deliberately had someone kidnap me. She said that if she ruined me, I wouldn't be able to marry you."
As she spoke, Angel began to sob again.
Abigail's face turned pale. She glared at Angel viciously but didn't dare to act rashly with William present.
William's expression visibly cooled. He knew what Abigail was thinking, but he hadn't expected her to be so bold this time, almost ruining his plans with Margaret!
Damn it!
He turned sharply to glare at Abigail, who was so startled she almost dropped her phone, stammering as she spoke.
"William, listen to me, it's not like that."
"What else do you want to say?!" William shouted angrily, his face cold and filled with fury as he looked at Abigail.
"Didn't I tell you not to mess with Marjorie? We're about to get engaged, and you do this? Are you trying to show you don't care about me?!"
William's anger was terrifying, and Abigail took a step back, looking at him in fear. She knew how frightening William could be when he was truly angry.
William glared at Abigail one last time and said in a low voice, "Since Marjorie is okay, I won't hold this against you this time. But you really don't know your place. Now get out of here!"
With that, he didn't spare Abigail another glance. He draped his jacket over Angel and carried her out of the warehouse.
Angel kept her eyes on William's face, a small smile of satisfaction playing on her lips. She had seen his anger and felt pleased.
[It seems he still cares about me.]
William placed Angel in the car and instructed the driver, "Drive. Take Ms. Walsh to the Golden Orchid Hotel for the engagement ceremony."
Angel felt something was off, but didn't doubt William. She asked, "Just me? William, aren't you coming with me?"
She instinctively tightened her grip on his sleeve.
William patted her hand, comforting her softly, "Don't worry. Everything's fine now. I'm just sending you to the hotel to change and freshen up. I need to handle some things at the office, but I'll be there soon. Just wait for me at the hotel."
He playfully tapped her nose, "My bride has to be the most beautiful. You almost got into trouble because of Abigail, so you should go to the hotel and get ready. Be good."
Angel smiled and nodded in agreement.
After Angel got out of the car at the hotel, William's smile vanished. He turned to the driver and said coldly, "Take me back."
At the hotel, Angel washed her face, and a stylist came to redo her makeup. She looked at herself in the mirror, feeling relieved and then smug.
After today, she would be William's fiancée. No one would dare to bully her then.
Meanwhile, guests began arriving at the banquet hall for the engagement ceremony. Most were prominent figures in Ravenford's business community and William's business partners. The media were also present, with reporters and cameramen crowding outside.
"Ms. Walsh, the engagement ceremony is about to start. Mr. Fisher just informed us he might be a bit late. He asked you to go ahead. Let's go."
Angel, sitting in her room, felt a bit uncomfortable hearing this, but nodded. She lifted her gown slightly and walked out.
The banquet hall was lavishly decorated. Waiters moved through the crowd with trays of champagne. Angel was surprised by the number of guests but quickly put on a bright smile, greeting everyone skillfully.
Reporters, who had been waiting, seized the opportunity to ask questions as soon as Angel appeared.
"Ms. Walsh, how do you feel about your engagement to Mr. Fisher today?"
"Ms. Walsh, why isn't Mr. Fisher with you on such an important day? Did you plan this?"
"Ms. Walsh..."
Questions came one after another. Angel frowned slightly at the questions about William but maintained a polite smile as she answered.
"Mr. Fisher has been very busy with the Fisher Group lately. He told me he'd be a bit late. But with so many guests here, it wouldn't be polite for me to keep them waiting, right?"
Angel's response was tactful, preserving William's dignity.
"And I'm very happy that everyone could come to our engagement ceremony. I'm honored and thrilled to be with the person I love. I hope everyone here finds their own happiness, too."
Her words concluded the interview, and the reporters dispersed. An assistant reminded her softly, "Ms. Walsh, the ceremony is about to start. We should go on stage. You're the star today."
"Okay, I know."
Angel agreed but felt uneasy. She glanced around, but William was nowhere to be seen.
