Chapter 430 Narrow Encounter with an Old Enemy
At the hospital, Margaret helped Juniper out of the car and said, "Still feeling anxious? Just close your eyes and don't look at the road. It might help."
Juniper followed her advice, closing her eyes and letting Margaret guide her.
Margaret's suggestion was just a trick to keep Juniper from realizing they were at the same hospital where Samuel was admitted.
Margaret had already booked an emergency appointment online while they were on the way, so they headed straight to the OB-GYN clinic.
Inside the clinic, another pregnant woman was being seen by the doctor. Margaret helped Juniper sit down.
"Doctor, I'm bleeding. Could it be..."
"Don't worry, it's normal. I've even seen cases where women had their periods for six months during pregnancy."
The faint conversation between the patient and the doctor could be heard.
"Juniper, did you hear that? Bleeding during pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong. Relax."
Juniper nodded slightly with her eyes closed, clutching her clothes. She was still worried because her stomach hurt, and she feared the worst.
The patient inside came out, and it was Juniper's turn. Margaret helped her into the consultation room.
Juniper opened her eyes and saw the name tag on the doctor's uniform, realizing it was the same hospital where Samuel was.
She looked at Margaret and tried to stand up, "Margaret, this isn't..."
Margaret pressed her back into the chair. "We're already here. If you don't see the doctor now, you might run into them outside anyway. It's better to get checked now."
Juniper, still worried, said, "But..."
Margaret reassured her, "Don't say anything. Just focus on seeing the doctor."
The female doctor asked, "What's wrong?"
Juniper weakly replied, "Doctor, my stomach hurts, and I'm bleeding."
The doctor glanced at Juniper, "Look up for me."
Juniper complied.
The doctor asked, "Where does it hurt? Here? Or here?" She gently pressed Juniper's stomach.
Juniper pointed, "A bit lower."
The doctor asked, "Did you eat breakfast this morning?"
"No."
"Alright, go get a blood test first, then pay for an ultrasound."
"Doctor, is my baby okay?"
The doctor frowned and said seriously, "You haven't been resting well, and your mood has been terrible. Plus, you're a bit anemic. How could the baby be okay? There's a risk of miscarriage."
Hearing this, Juniper became agitated, "Doctor, you have to help me save my baby."
The doctor pulled her hand away from Juniper's grip, "It's up to you to save the baby, not me. You need to manage your emotions. The baby is still small and unstable. If you don't take care of yourself, no one can help."
"Alright, it's just a threatened miscarriage. If you take good care of yourself, the baby should be fine. Go pay for the ultrasound, and I'll check it for you."
Juniper nodded vigorously.
Margaret quickly paid on her phone, and the doctor took Juniper for the ultrasound.
The large ultrasound room had six machines working simultaneously, each with a bed and a curtain for privacy.
The doctor looked at her, "Lie down, lift your shirt, and lower your pants a bit."
With Margaret's help, Juniper did as instructed, and the doctor pulled the curtain closed.
Juniper lay on the bed, her eyes filled with worry as she looked at Margaret, who gave her a reassuring nod.
"Doctor, is the baby okay?" Juniper asked anxiously.
"Have you been coming in for regular check-ups?" the doctor inquired.
"I've been busy and didn't have time," Juniper admitted.
"Make sure to come regularly. Check-ups are important. The baby is developing a bit slowly. I'll prescribe some medication, and you need to come in for five days of nutrient IVs."
After the ultrasound, Juniper got off the bed, and Margaret opened the curtain. They were about to leave when Juniper saw Dione. She quickly pulled the curtain closed, not wanting Dione to know the baby was in danger.
The doctor noticed her strange behavior but didn't ask.
"Is there someone outside you don't want to see?" the doctor asked.
Juniper nodded.
The doctor opened the curtain slightly. "Who is it?"
Margaret pointed, whispering, "The woman in the green dress."
The doctor walked over and closed the curtain where Dione was standing, blocking her view.
Margaret helped Juniper quietly leave.
Once outside, Juniper sighed in relief, "Thank goodness, she almost saw us."
The doctor, walking ahead of them, said, "The baby is still just a small embryo, not even with separated fingers. If not everyone is looking forward to its arrival, you need to think carefully. The environment for the baby's growth might not be good."
The doctor assumed they were two young women dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, trying to avoid their families finding out, so she kindly offered advice.
Juniper replied slowly, "Thank you, doctor. I won't let this baby suffer."
If the baby's environment wouldn't be good, Juniper wouldn't have it.
Samuel had almost lost his life for this baby. Once born, the baby would surely be cherished.
She had to protect this baby for now!
In the ultrasound room, Dione looked at the little girl on the bed, with a woman of similar age standing beside her.
"Liliana, what's wrong? Why does your stomach hurt? Is it appendicitis?" Dione asked, concerned.
The doctor replied, "No, it's just a bowel obstruction. Nothing serious."
The woman beside them added, "Liliana, thank Dione for her concern. She came all the way here for you. Next time, don't run around after eating."
"Kids love to play. It's normal. My son is the same... but let's not talk about it," Dione said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Dione, don't worry too much. Samuel is fine. I checked on him, too. I have to go now," the woman said.
"Alright, I'll walk you out," Dione offered.
"Dione, you stay here and take care of Samuel. It was a coincidence today. I came to see Samuel, and Liliana's stomach hurt, so I brought her for an ultrasound."
The woman was Dione's cousin. She had come to visit Samuel and brought her daughter Liliana, who had a stomachache, for an ultrasound.
She had seen Margaret and Juniper earlier.
Dione had noticed everything they did.
When Dione first arrived, she saw Margaret closing the curtain and Juniper lying on the bed.
A pregnant woman getting an ultrasound wasn't unusual, so Dione didn't suspect anything.
But since Juniper was carrying Samuel's child, she couldn't help but pay attention. She overheard some concerning things about the baby.
On her way back to the room, Dione thought about what she had heard in the ultrasound room and muttered angrily, "What a troublemaker!"
