Chapter 114 Aaron's Ridiculous Request
Susanna felt Aaron's strong, dry palm, her expression slightly embarrassed.
She wanted to withdraw her hand, but Maria held their hands tightly together, as if giving final instructions.
"If anything goes wrong with my surgery this time, you must take care of each other. Things can't be like they were before now that Susanna carried a baby."
Upon hearing Maria's words, a lump formed in Susanna's throat. "Grandma, you will be fine. After all, you have to see our child being born."
Maria smiled with contentment. "Yes, I will witness the birth of this child."
Although everyone thought she was falsely pregnant, deceiving Maria for the surgery, only Susanna knew that her pregnancy was real.
Beside her, Aaron spoke softly. "Grandma, I will take care of her and the child. You don't need to worry so much."
Hearing this, a hint of sarcasm flashed in Susanna's eyes.
Yet, he was getting engaged to Erica tomorrow.
Men were indeed adept at deception.
Maria glanced at the time. "It's getting late. Why don't you go out to eat. The food isn't nutritious here, don't stay with me for dinner."
Susanna breathed a sigh of relief. If Maria had insisted they eat together, she wouldn't know how to explain.
After all, her brothers were waiting at home for her, and she needed to go back for dinner.
After Maria left, she instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but Aaron still held on firmly.
Susanna pursed her lips, revealing no emotions.
As they left the ward, Susanna immediately wanted to free her hand, but Aaron still didn't let go.
Looking up at him, she said," Grandma can't see us now. You don't need to keep pretending."
Aaron's eyes narrowed slightly. "I heard the government compensated you."
She replied with a touch of sarcasm in her eyes. "Yes, Elaine schemed against me, trying to disgust me. Unfortunately, the construction company that owed the government money went bankrupt, but it didn't stop my family from receiving compensation."
His thin lips pursed coldly. "It seems like you have quite a wide network of contacts, knowing quite a few men willing to help you."
He saw Erica's brother, Austin, holding her this morning, their relationship seemed deep. He also heard Austin's voice when he called Susanna last time.
Wasn't she with Zachary but now she's with another man.
Susanna chuckled sarcastically, looking at the hand he held tightly. "So, are you jealous?"
He looked somewhat embarrassed and immediately let go of her hand, replying expressionlessly, "Don't get involved in multiple relationships at the same time, stop utilizing men who genuinely want to be with you as tools. If they find out, you'll be in big trouble."
"You don't need to worry about these, it's my business. "Susanna replied.
His voice turned cold. "Don't forget that we're not divorced yet."
Susanna reminded, "Let's signed the divorce papers after Grandma's surgery on next Monday; I hope you won't be late then."
Seeing her determined eyes and tone, Aaron felt helpless, yet had no solution.
Aaron's throat moved slightly. "Remember not to reveal anything before Grandma's surgery."
"I know, but you are getting engaged to another woman tomorrow. Do you even have the right to demand that I keep the truth hidden? What's even more ridiculous is that I am still legally your wife." Susanna retorted.
Susanna went to the engagement venue today, finding it was significantly different from the engagements of wealthy individuals.
When she married Aaron, she had nothing. Maud even had her sign a prenuptial agreement, warning her not to covet a penny from the Abbott family.
Different women indeed had different destinies.
Aaron loosened his tie angrily. "Actually, Erica and I..."
Susanna shouted, "Enough, there is no need to explain to me because someone of my status has no right to question, let alone listen!"
After saying that, Susanna turned and left.
She looked up at the ceiling to stop her tears from falling.
Aaron watched her retreating figure and angrily hit the wall, feeling the pain quickly spreading.
Lee saw blood seeping out and quickly called a nurse to dress the wound, but upon seeing Aaron's expression, he dared not speak.
Aaron who was typically calm and strategic, now seemed helpless.
Lee sighed softly. Since Aaron and Susanna had announced their divorce, it was clear that they were both immersed in tormenting each other.
The next moment, Aaron's phone rang.
He answered expressionlessly, "Hello."
"You will be engaged with Erica tomorrow. Come back for dinner tonight with Erica being here." Maud said on the other end of the phone.
Aaron hung up before hearing the rest, looking at Susanna outside as she got into a taxi, his eyes reflecting a mix of complex emotions.
After Maud's call was disconnected, she called several times but received no answer.
In the end, Maud, feeling awkward, looked at Erica. "He's probably busy with work. You know the entire conglomerate relies on him alone."
Although there was a shadow in Erica's eyes, she maintained a composed expression and said, "It's okay, Aunt Maud. I totally understand that he is busy with work."
"Erica, you are so considerate. What about your brothers I heard they all came since you had dinner here tonight.”
Erica's expression faltered for a moment. "That's right, they did come, but their flight was delayed. I'll go pick them up after dinner."
"In that case, ask Aaron to go with you later. However, he might be too busy to make it. I'll go with you." Maud said.
"No need, Aunt Maud, You should get some rest at this late hour. After all, you will be busy all day tomorrow." Erica recalled.
Erica quickly stopped Maud because the earlier statements were lies. She would find out the truth if Maud came with her to pick up her brothers.
She had planned to have dinner with her brothers earlier in the afternoon. But Edward was busy, Arthur was arriving tomorrow, and Austin wasn't answering.
Erica didn't dare to ask for more. As usual, when she stayed with Maria in the Jones family's villa in Novaria, her three brothers remained indifferent toward her.
She had always been patient all along since she knew she was replacing the original Miss Jones, and she finally made it.
As long as she endured until the day she married Aaron.
Once she became his wife, she wouldn't have to fear the disapproval of the Jones family or serve Maria anymore.
In the end, the table full of food was only enjoyed by Maud and Erica, the latter knew that Maud liked her because of her status as the Miss Jones.
.
During their meal, Erica's phone rang. Seeing it was Edward, she stood up excitedly. "Edward is calling me!"
Hastily answering the call, Erica said, "Hello, Edward, are you done with your work?"
"Erica, I was planning on telling you it tomorrow at the engagement party, but I think it's better to inform you sooner. I've sent the electronic document to your email. Take a look and let me know if you have any requests." Edward voiced.
Erica opened the document Edward had sent immediately hung up the call, seeing the striking title Release of Adoption Agreement.
