Chapter 276 When TV Plots Reflect Reality

Flandre nodded. "Jim's pretty sharp; he figured out the right answer."

Lucy snorted. "No way! Susanna's ex is an old guy. How could he be so handsome and charming?"

Juniper chimed in. "Yeah, if he was that good-looking, charming, and rich, why'd they get divorced? I'd never leave a guy like that."

Flandre sneered at them. "Sounds like jealousy to me. Susanna's rich now and doesn't need a man. Her ex just can't move on."

Lucy shot back, "I don't buy it."

Flandre shrugged. "Believe what you want, but maybe you should worry about your family's company going under, Lucy."

Lucy's face twisted in anger. "I'll find out who this 'old guy' backing Susanna is. Let's see how long she stays smug."

Flandre stayed silent. Just then, their ride, called by Jim, arrived, and they left together.

The classmates started to leave one by one.

Lucy looked at Jack. "You haven't left yet. Can you give me a ride?"

Jack's face darkened as he quickly looked up the president of the Abbott Group. The official website had some photos, and to his shock, it was Aaron—the president of the Abbott Group!

Jack's hand shook as he realized Susanna had married the president of the Abbott Group three years ago, not some old man.

Lucy moved closer. "Jack, what's wrong? You look pale."

"Get away from me!" Jack pushed her away.

Lucy almost fell and snapped, "What's your problem? We used to get along, but ever since you saw Susanna, you've changed. Your family won't accept a divorced woman like her."

"Do you know who Susanna's ex-husband is?" Jack asked.

"Just some rich old guy," Lucy said dismissively.

Jack showed her his phone. "Look, the man we saw is the president of the Abbott Group, Susanna's ex-husband!"

Lucy turned pale. "How is that possible? How could an orphan like Susanna marry into the Abbott family?"

Jack put his phone away, looking indifferent. "Let's stop contacting each other and cancel the project. We're not that close anyway."

He braved the rain to get his car, not wanting to be dragged down by Lucy. He couldn't afford to offend the Abbott family.

Lucy stood there, stunned. How could Susanna's ex be the president of the Abbott Group?

In a daze, she fell on the steps and looked at Juniper. "What are you staring at? Help me up and call a car."

Juniper didn't move. "Lucy, do you still think you're an heiress? Your family's bankrupt, and you've offended the Abbott family. How can you still stand here?"

Juniper turned and walked away, leaving Lucy alone in the pouring rain, her eyes filled with envy and despair. She screamed, "I don't believe it, I still don't believe it!"

Susanna was just a poor orphan in school. How could she now be an heiress with a wealthy ex-husband?

Meanwhile, Susanna sneezed in the car. She rubbed her nose, guessing Lucy was cursing her.

The luxury car kept the rain out, and it was quiet inside.

Aaron handed her a tissue, and she wiped her nose. Her phone finally rang.

It was Edward. She answered, "Edward, what's up?"

"Where are you? It's pouring outside. I called Elliot for an emergency, not knowing he was assigned to you. I just found out you haven't gone home. Where are you? We'll come get you," Edward said, sounding worried.

Brian, sitting next to Edward, added, "Susanna, sorry for the mix-up. Elliot thought you had a ride."

Susanna realized why Elliot didn't pick her up. It was a misunderstanding.

She replied, "It's okay, I'm in a car now. I'll be back soon, don't worry."

Edward asked, "Are you in a classmate's car?" The quiet car made the conversation clear.

Aaron heard Edward's question and looked at Susanna, curious.

Susanna said, "I took a taxi. It's safe, the driver is steady."

"Good. Text us when you get to the entrance, and we'll come down," Edward said.

"Okay, bye, Edward."

As Susanna ended the call, she noticed Aaron staring at her. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?'" she asked.

Aaron held back but asked, "A taxi?"

He thought she'd say it was a classmate's car, but she said taxi.

Susanna leaned back. "More or less."

"I've never seen someone lie like you. Are you too scared to tell your brothers?" Aaron asked.

Susanna got angry. "I'm doing this for your sake. If my brothers find out, do you think you can handle them?"

She didn't want more trouble or fights.

Aaron looked slightly reluctant. "What makes you so sure I can't handle them? Worried I might get hurt?"

"Don't be so full of yourself. I'm worried about my brothers, not you!" Susanna shot back.

Frustrated, Aaron adjusted his tie. "When are you planning to leave?"

"Probably after the exams." Susanna looked at him. "Aaron, why do you care?"

Aaron's expression was forced. "Just curious."

"Aaron, you wouldn't be planning to back out, would you?" Susanna asked suspiciously.
