Chapter 249 No Interest in the Position of Mrs. Abbott
Susanna laughed, ignoring Erica, and walked into the VIP lounge to check the setup.
Feeling snubbed, Erica turned to Elaine. "Elaine, am I right?"
Elaine looked uneasy and coughed. "Erica, I have a secret about Susanna."
"What secret?"
Elaine hesitated. "Remember that credit card you canceled? I really need some money. Can you not cancel it?"
Erica was annoyed. "Elaine, you spend too much. Maybe it's time you learn to save or make your own money. You can't keep asking your family forever. You're an adult now."
Erica tried to stay calm. If Elaine wasn't an Abbott, she wouldn't bother with her, let alone give her a credit card. This was all part of her plan to marry into the Abbott family. But Elaine had no skills, just a talent for spending money. With her credit card canceled by the Jones family, she needed to cut back.
Elaine, feeling rejected, pouted. "Erica, you're going to be part of the Abbott family. You can't be this stingy, right?"
"That's exactly why I'm saying this. It's for your own good," Erica replied, hoping to remind Elaine to improve.
Elaine got angry. "What do you mean by that?"
"I'm saying this because I care about you. By the way, what's the secret about Susanna?"
Elaine hesitated. "Oh, I forgot." Her credit card was canceled, and Erica was harsh. Why should she share the secret?
Erica wanted to press further but got a call from her secretary. "Ms. Jones, we have a lead on Wendy. She fled the luxury store but showed up at the school."
Erica hung up, pleased. "The event's about to start, and Edward and the others will be there. I need to check. Do what you want, but don't cause trouble."
Erica left quickly, knowing Elaine would ask for money if she stayed.
Given Elaine's intelligence, any secret she had probably wasn't useful. It was better to find Wendy and use her .
Elaine stood there, fuming. She had planned to tell Erica that Susanna bought the same dress, but now it seemed pointless. Susanna had found her wealthy parents and might be richer than the Jones family soon.
Thinking this, Elaine decided to find Susanna. "I have a secret about Erica to tell you."
"I'm not interested. Please move"
"Susanna, don't be so dismissive." Elaine blocked the door, looking uneasy. "I've realized Erica's true nature. I don't think she's right for my family. You're much better than Erica. Now that you've found your wealthy parents, your status matches ours in the Abbott family."
Susanna frowned. "What are you getting at?"
Elaine smirked. "If you want to stay Mrs. Abbott, I'll back you. But there's a catch."
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "What catch?"
Elaine's eyes gleamed with mischief. "Simple. Get Aaron to reactivate my credit card and give me a new one each month with a high limit."
Susanna was stunned by Elaine's greed. "How dare you ask me that?"
"I was going to tell Erica about your pregnancy and finding your biological parents, but I kept it secret for you," Elaine replied.
"Aren't you and Erica close? How could you betray her so fast?"
"Erica's too stingy. She wants to marry into our family but won't give me a dime!"
Susanna finally understood Elaine's sudden betrayal. She thought for a moment. "I'll think about it and get back to you."
"Really? Think it over. With me on your side, your position is secure." Elaine left, grinning.
Susanna smirked. No way she'd agree to that. Elaine had no idea she and Aaron were already divorced. But it didn't matter. Once the banquet was over and she passed her exam, she'd leave Lindwell for good.
By then, no one would listen to Elaine, and Susanna would be free from any threats. She touched her belly gently and continued checking the VIP lounges.
As she checked the last room, she got a call from Aviana. "Susanna, why haven't you changed into the new dress I bought you?"
"Aviana, I have work at school. It's not convenient to wear the new dress."
"That won't do. I'll bring your new clothes and a makeup artist. Today is your big day, and you must look your best," Aviana insisted.
"Alright," Susanna agreed, knowing Aviana would bring them regardless.
After hanging up, she turned and saw a familiar face at the end of the hallway. "Wendy, is that you?" Susanna exclaimed, walking over.
The person hiding in the corner stepped out, looking guilty. "Susanna."
Susanna hadn't seen Wendy in a while and had felt hurt by her betrayal. She assumed Wendy had fallen for Erica's financial lure.
Wendy walked over, pleading, "Susanna, I'm sorry for before. Please help me convince the school not to expel me."
Susanna was troubled. "I can't make that decision."
"Susanna, do you really want to drive me to despair?"
Susanna pressed her lips. "Wendy, I never forced you to do anything. But if you make a mistake, you have to face the consequences, right?"
Wendy's expression darkened as she thought, 'If that's how it is, don't blame me for being ruthless.'
