Chapter 575 The Daughter Is Indeed Very Considerate

Susanna paused and said, "I just never thought about it. Being alone is fine by me."

One of the neighbors said, "Come on, as a woman, it's still tough. No matter how good your job is, how can you manage without a man at home?"

The other added, "Ms. Jones, don't take this the wrong way. We're saying this for your own good. The guy I introduced to you is really popular. I'm only doing this because of my good relationship with Madison. Good men don't come easy."

Madison jumped in, "Alright, enough. Women need to rely on themselves these days. After getting out of a bad marriage, why jump back in just to wash clothes and cook for a man?"

The neighbor's face tightened. "You can't say that. Ms. Jones was married well before, wasn't she? But it didn't work out because of mismatched status. She needs to find a family that matches her status to live a good life."

Madison was getting annoyed. "Susanna is amazing. She deserves to be with anyone she wants. I can't control her life. I think having a job, kids, and a happy life is enough. Men are unreliable."

Susanna linked arms with Madison. "It's getting late. Let's head back. The kids need to bathe and sleep." She then pulled Madison away from the gossip.

Madison said to her, "Don't let what those two said get to you. They're known for gossiping around here. The men they mentioned are no good. One of them, right before getting married, asked the pregnant woman to sign a prenuptial agreement so she wouldn't get any of the mortgaged house's assets. Then she had an abortion."

Susanna's eyes widened. "Didn't something like that make the news before?"

"Pretty much. The woman was actually great, but that family was terrible. Divorce was the right choice. And that divorced guy? I heard he listens to his mom a lot, cheated on his wife, and even abused her. They got divorced. He has a good job and some money, so he acts all high and mighty. The guy's PhD tuition and living expenses were all paid by his ex-wife. He's really awful."

Susanna was shocked. Seeing Madison's indignant expression, Susanna smiled and said, "I won't let it bother me."

"Susanna, are you really not thinking about personal relationships?"

"Yeah. Maybe in the future if I meet the right person." Susanna genuinely hadn't thought about these issues. Matters of the heart weren't something one could decide on a whim.

Madison patted her hand. "Alright, take your time with this. As long as you don't lack money, everything will be fine."

Susanna felt Madison had a good perspective. She continued, "How's Vincent doing at the hospital?"

"The same as always, just getting thinner by the day. The doctor said to be mentally prepared. Honestly, if it weren't for Edward covering the medical bills, Vincent wouldn't have made it this far. I think he's better off dead than suffering like this."

"Madison, don't say that. What if Vincent wakes up? Maria woke up, so there's still a chance."

"It's different. You don't need to comfort me. I've come to terms with it. Now, I'm most worried about you."

"I have my brothers supporting me, and I don't lack money. I'm living better than anyone."

Susanna and Madison took the kids home to wash up and sleep. As Susanna lay in bed, watching Charles and Lillian sleep beside her, she got up and walked to the window, gazing at the bustling city outside.

She never thought that after all these years, she would return so peacefully, with Charles and Lillian safe and sound, and her life so happy.

The next day, Susanna planned to take Charles and Lillian to the hospital to visit Maria. If all went well, Maria should wake up today.

But just as they finished breakfast, there was a knock on the door. Madison went to open it. "Who is it?"

Susanna saw it was their neighbor from yesterday, Maya Coleman, holding a bunch of fruit. "Madison, I mentioned Ms. Jones to a friend yesterday. His son saw Ms. Jones's photo and is very interested. He's willing to meet Ms. Jones and doesn't mind that she has kids."

Madison was immediately annoyed. "Take your stuff back. Susanna isn't going on a blind date."

But Maya just put down the fruit and ran off. Madison was fuming. "What kind of person does that?"

Susanna patted Madison's shoulder. "It's okay. Just have the property management return the stuff. I'll take the kids to the hospital first. Call me if anything comes up."

"Alright, you go ahead." Madison looked at the fruit, still angry.

Susanna didn't give it much thought. She took Charles and Lillian to the hospital. Lillian looked up at her and asked, "Mom, are you going on a blind date?"

"Of course not! Don't listen to adults talking nonsense." Susanna took Charles and Lillian upstairs to the ICU and saw Aaron sitting on a bench with a laptop on his lap and a pile of documents beside him.

It looked like he had stayed up all night there. She knew how busy Aaron usually was. Lillian immediately ran over and squeezed onto the bench next to Aaron. "Is Great-Grandma awake?"

Aaron's expression softened when he saw Lillian. "She woke up for a bit. She should wake up again later. The doctor said her condition has stabilized."

Susanna nodded. "That's good." She noticed the dark circles under Aaron's eyes. Had he not slept for the past two days?

Susanna hesitated but didn't say anything. She turned to the secretary and asked, "Has he eaten?"

The secretary replied quickly, "Ms. Jones, to be honest, since Mr. Abbott came back, he hasn't slept or rested. He's either in meetings with the hospital or handling work. He hasn't eaten much either. Can you persuade him?"

Susanna looked a bit awkward. "I can't persuade him. Just bring the food over. Lillian will get him to eat." After all, Lillian was known for being considerate, even caring for homeless people on the street.

The secretary immediately arranged for food to be brought over. Ten minutes later, the secretary pushed a food cart over. Besides food for adults, there were also desserts and snacks for kids.

Lillian's eyes lit up. Aaron gave the secretary an approving look for his thoughtfulness. He said to Lillian, "Help yourself to whatever you want. I need to start a video conference."

Aaron skillfully opened his laptop to start the meeting. But Lillian took a piece of fried chicken and held it up to Aaron's mouth, gently saying, "Try this."

At that moment, the executives on the other side of the video conference were all stunned.
