Chapter 169 A Comedy of Errors Doubles Down

Susanna was so stunned when she saw she'd been blocked that she couldn't even speak. Who would believe her if she told them? Brian's girlfriend had blocked her!

Susanna figured Brian was probably busy and had no idea his girlfriend had misunderstood the message she sent. After thinking it over, she decided to wait until Brian was done with work to clear things up. Trying to explain to his girlfriend now would be pointless.

Susanna had just taken leave from Epic Horizon, and with Brian still tied up, she wondered where to go. Why not visit Grandma Maria in the hospital?

She grabbed a cab straight to the hospital. Maria was still in the ICU, and visits were restricted. She could only get updates on Maria's condition from the doctors and nurses.

The nurse said, "Mrs. Abbott had a brief issue with her blood pressure early this morning, but we managed to stabilize her. She's doing better now."

Susanna was really worried when she heard Maria had a scare last night, but she was relieved everything turned out okay. Since she couldn't see Maria, all she could do was pray she'd be alright.

As she was about to leave the hospital, she ran into Aaron at the elevator. He was talking with a doctor about something. Aaron looked up and made eye contact with her, his pupils narrowing slightly. He calmly told the doctor, "Keep me posted on any changes."

"Mr. Abbott, don't worry. We've got a dedicated team watching over Mrs. Maria Abbott. The whole medical team will be on duty until she's out of danger," the doctor replied.

Aaron nodded, and the doctors left.

Susanna had overheard what the doctor said. With doctors watching over her 24/7, there shouldn't be any major issues.

Aaron pressed his lips together and said in a somewhat stiff tone, "Grandma's out of danger now. No need to worry."

Susanna nodded. "That's good."

"It's the weekend. Aren't you supposed to be off work?" Aaron asked. He remembered she usually worked weekends at Epic Horizon. With her talent, she didn't need to be on duty at his company, but she chose to stay at the small Epic Horizon. Thinking about her boss, Dick, made Aaron very uncomfortable.

Susanna paused. "I've decided to focus on my studies. I'll occasionally take orders from Epic Horizon to earn some living expenses, but I won't be on duty at the company anymore."

Aaron frowned. "Earning living expenses? Are you short on money?"

"Yeah, isn't everyone always strapped for cash? I mean, living expenses aren't cheap, right?"

Aaron looked down at her, took out his wallet, and pulled out a card. "Take it."

Susanna glanced at the card and refused. "Thanks, but I don't need it."

Aaron tried to persuade her. "You rejected the property I offered you before, and now you have to earn your own living. If word gets out, how will that make me look?"

"My lack of money has nothing to do with your reputation," Susanna retorted.

Aaron's expression turned slightly strained. "Well, at the end of the day, you are my wife."

"We're about to get divorced."

"Even as an ex-wife, others might see me as stingy for not giving you anything. Just take it!" Aaron insisted.

Susanna took a step back. "I won't take it. Give up on that idea."

If she were to accept Aaron's money, what would that make her? Wouldn't it reinforce the perception that she married Aaron solely for his wealth?

At that moment, Susanna's phone buzzed. Seeing it was Brian calling, she quickly answered, "Hey, are you finished?"

"Are you a relative of Brian?" the voice on the other end asked.

Susanna paused before replying, "Yes, I am."

"We're from the Guardian Police Station. We're handling a dispute at the Greenfield Hotel and need a relative to come over."

Susanna immediately sensed something had happened to Brian. He rarely came to Lindwell, and she was worried, so she hung up and ran out of the hospital.

She ran past Aaron without saying a word. Aaron stood there watching her, his lips pressed into a thin line. He turned to look at Susanna's departing figure, his expression becoming incredibly complex. What could be so urgent?

Could it be Austin? No, he had come over early in the morning to check on Maria and had just gone to rest. So who was the person called Susanna?

Susanna didn't hesitate and hailed a cab straight to the Greenfield Hotel. When she arrived, she saw several people standing outside the presidential suite, seemingly guarding the entrance. She thought she would be stopped, but they let her in without any issues.

Susanna didn't have time to speculate and headed to the luxury suite, where she encountered two uniformed individuals. Brian was seated on the sofa in a bathrobe, accompanied by a striking woman, although both of their expressions were less than pleasant.

Susanna walked in and looked at Brian, asking, "What happened?"

'Did he have a fight with his girlfriend because of a misunderstanding?' she wondered.

Brian sighed, "Susanna, nothing happened. It's just that since I'm from Novaria, they need a relative to confirm things. It's no big deal."

As soon as he finished speaking, the pretty woman across from him suddenly spoke up, "What do you mean it's no big deal? Brian, explain yourself. You said you were on a business trip to Lindwell. Were you secretly meeting a lover? I thought it would be some stunning beauty, but she's so plain..."

"Shut up!" Brian's face suddenly turned cold as he stared at the woman. "You can insult me all you want, but don't you dare insult Susanna."

Although Brian was a bit of a playboy, Susanna was his bottom line. He frowned. "Take back what you just said. How is Susanna plain? She's clearly so kind, sensible, and beautiful."

Susanna was unexpectedly showered with praise by Brian, causing her mouth to twitch as she wondered, 'How can he lie so blatantly? His girlfriend looks like a movie star.'

"Brian, you finally admit it, don't you? Didn't you say I was your favorite? We've only been together for less than a month, and you're already moving on?" the woman interrogated.

Sensing the misunderstanding deepen, Susanna quickly explained, "You've got it wrong. Brian is my brother. We're not in the kind of relationship you think."

The woman immediately started cursing, "Stop pretending. I don't believe it. I used the same trick to break up his previous relationship and get with him. You want to use the same trick to drive a wedge between us? No way!"

After hearing this fierce statement, Susanna and the people in uniform fell silent.

Brian said coldly, "That's enough. I've reached my limit. We're done. Leave."

The woman's eyes immediately turned red, looking pitiful. "Brian, you can't break up with me. You don't know how much I like you."

Susanna didn't want Brian to break up with his girlfriend because of her. That would be a huge guilt on her part. She approached Brian, saying, "Brian, I messaged you this morning. She simply misunderstood our relationship."

Brian checked the message history but couldn't find any messages from Susanna. Where did it go?
