Chapter 483 Someone Forcefully Breaks into the Research Institute
Susanna spun around and saw a bunch of security guards showing up. "What's the deal?"
Charles hopped off his chair and eyed a nurse walking by. "What's going on?"
"Looks like someone's trying to bust in from outside. All the security's on it. No worries, no one's getting in."
The nurse then bolted towards the entrance.
Hearing the commotion, a bunch of lab folks dropped what they were doing and headed outside, curious to see who had the guts to try and break into the place.
Susanna was just as shocked. Who'd be crazy enough to try this?
She glanced down at Charles and said, "Hey Charles, wanna go check it out?"
Charles, looking all serious, shook his head. "What's the point? It's a waste of time."
Susanna grabbed his hand. "Come on, you're just a kid. Why you gotta act like an old man? Kids should be curious. Let's go see what's up."
She knew Charles was always the good, sensible type, way more mature than other kids his age. Heck, more mature than some adults. But she wished he could be more like Lillian, carefree and innocent.
Charles hesitated but then, seeing Susanna holding his hand, his little face turned red, and he almost smiled before quickly hiding it.
Hand in hand, they headed to the entrance. Susanna was dying to see who had the nerve to break into the research institute.
This place wasn't like a hospital or anything. People here usually didn't have beef with each other, let alone someone trying to break in.
So, who'd be that bold?
At the entrance, Susanna saw a woman in a red evening dress, acting all high and mighty, yelling at the security guys, "How dare you stop me? Do you even know who I am?"
The security captain, cool as a cucumber, replied, "Sorry, doesn't matter who you are. If you're not staff or don't have an appointment, you can't come in."
"You're just a lowly security guard. How dare you talk to me like that? When I see your boss, you're so fired."
The captain, still calm, said, "Then go ahead and talk to my boss. Until then, you're not getting in."
Susanna couldn't help but give the captain a mental high-five. This guy had guts.
But then, out of nowhere, Betsy Gray slapped the captain.
She sneered, "I'm not just anyone. I'm your boss's fiancée. How dare you stop me? Who do you think you are?"
Susanna's eyes widened in surprise.
Charles looked up at her and asked, "Mom, do you know this nasty lady?"
Susanna shook her head. "Nope, never seen her. But I'm curious. She says she's the boss's fiancée, but I've never heard Michael mention anything about having one."
The nurses nearby started whispering. "Well, Mr. Brown is quite the catch—handsome and super talented. A bunch of people here have a crush on him. I heard some even confessed, but he turned them all down."
"That's 'cause Mr. Brown's already got someone special in his heart. No one's gonna change that."
Susanna knew exactly who they were talking about. Her face turned a bit awkward. She'd only recently found out Michael had feelings for her, but she never saw him that way. To her, he was just like a brother.
Things outside were heating up fast.
After Betsy slapped the security captain, her bodyguards jumped in and started clearing the way.
These guys were no joke—well-trained and brutal. The security team didn't stand a chance and were quickly taken down.
Betsy, looking at the fallen guards, smirked, "That's what you get for messing with me."
Susanna frowned. This was getting out of hand.
Betsy then pulled out a wad of cash and tossed it on the ground. "Here's for your medical bills. Don't be shy. And remember, don't cross me again."
With that, Betsy strutted into the research institute.
At the entrance, she wrinkled her nose at the disinfection device. "What the hell is this? It stinks. Get rid of it."
A nearby nurse explained, "It's a disinfection device. Everyone entering or leaving needs to be disinfected. The institute has to stay sterile, and hygiene is a big deal."
"So, you're saying I'm dirty?"
Betsy raised her hand and slapped the nurse, knocking her to the ground.
Not satisfied, Betsy stepped on the nurse's hand. "How dare you talk to me like that? You think you're something special? Got a thing for Michael, huh? Well, I'm here to tell you, back off. He's mine, and you'll regret it if you don't."
Seeing things spiraling out of control, Susanna stepped in and helped the nurse up.
Betsy glared at her. "And who the hell are you?"
