Chapter 576 Cherish While Alive
Aaron was caught off guard; he didn't see it coming when Lillian handed him some food. He hesitated for a moment, but with Lillian's earnest little face staring up at him, he couldn't let her down. So, he took the chicken nugget she offered and ate it.
Lillian beamed. "They said you haven't eaten. It's not good to skip meals. You eat the pasta, and I'll eat this." She struggled a bit, holding the plate of pasta up to him.
Aaron felt a bit helpless. "I'll eat after I finish the meeting."
"Mom said work never ends, but you have to eat." Lillian leaned her little head over, looking at the executives on the video call, and gently said, "He needs to eat, please wait."
The executives were all stunned by this adorable Lillian. Who was this? Could she be Aaron's secret daughter? They had never heard he had a kid. But Aaron's doting attitude towards Lillian clearly showed their relationship was special.
The executives stayed silent, and Lillian got a bit anxious. Aaron immediately looked at the executives and said coldly, "She is talking to you."
One of the executives, who also had kids, responded quickly, "Okay, we can wait for him to finish eating before continuing the meeting."
Lillian was happy and said sweetly, "Thank you."
The executive who was a dad smiled broadly. "You're welcome." But he quickly got a murderous glare from Aaron.
Aaron turned off the video. His daughter didn't need to be so considerate. He took the food. He wasn't very hungry, but seeing Lillian's eager eyes, he finally picked up the fork and started eating.
Susanna, watching this scene from the side, smiled. She knew Aaron probably couldn't refuse Lillian's request.
Charles glanced over and looked up at her. "Mom, did you ask Lillian to do this?"
Susanna said softly, "No, you know Lillian's personality better than anyone. She would even show concern for a homeless person on the street. Aaron's been working non-stop for Maria these past few days. If he doesn't eat, his body will fail."
"Mom, it seems you care about him a lot."
Susanna's expression became a bit unnatural. "Not at all. Right now, Maria still relies on him. If something happens to him, she won't be well off either."
Charles looked like he understood. "Mom, what about you and Michael? What did you talk about that day?"
Susanna was silent for a moment before saying, "Children shouldn't worry about grown-up matters." She sat nearby, watching Lillian supervise Aaron as he finished his meal.
Not long after, Maria woke up, and Susanna, Charles, and Lillian all put on sterile gowns and went in. Susanna saw the gray-haired Maria, stepped forward, and held her hand, choking up. "Maria."
Maria glanced at her, then at Charles and Lillian, tears welling up in her eyes. Susanna wiped Maria's tears and said softly, "I lied to you back then; the kids have always been here."
Lillian and Charles stepped forward and greeted her politely. "Great-Grandma, please get well soon."
Maria looked at Lillian, weakly nodded, and then looked at Susanna as if she wanted to say something. Susanna leaned closer to Maria. "What do you want to say?"
Maria said, "I'm just glad you're okay."
Hearing this, Susanna's eyes instantly welled up with tears. Maria still remembered what happened five years ago. It seemed she knew it was a setup aimed at Susanna.
Susanna held Maria's hand. "You need to get better soon. The two kids are growing up and getting naughtier. They need you to teach them." Maria smiled and nodded.
Charles had never seen such a scene before, and he felt a bit emotional. He stepped forward with a serious face. "Great-Grandma, please hold on."
Maria choked up when she saw a face so similar to Aaron's. Finally, she was relieved that Aaron had children. Even if she left this world, Aaron wouldn't be alone.
The visiting time couldn't be too long; Maria needed to rest. Susanna took Charles and Lillian out of the ward, and Aaron followed. He was expressionless, and his eyes were deep.
Susanna looked at Aaron and said, "Maria will get better. The kids will stay here with her until she recovers and is discharged."
After so many years, the relationship between Susanna and Aaron was hard to explain, but Maria's bond with the children was unbreakable.
Lillian held Aaron's hand, her little face serious. "You have to eat on time."
Aaron forced a smile. "Okay."
Susanna nodded and was about to leave with the kids when the secretary came over and whispered in Aaron's ear, "We've found Vivian."
Aaron's face turned cold. "Where is she?"
"She snuck in as a cleaner, probably planning to get close to Maria."
Susanna snorted. "We've waited so long, and she finally showed up."
Aaron's lips pressed into a cold line. "Arrest her."
Susanna replied, "No, Vivian must pay the price. We need evidence."
"But I can't let Maria be in danger."
"We can have someone impersonate her. But we don't know when Vivian will act. If it's too obvious, she'll see it's a trap." Susanna thought for a moment and decided to play a game with Vivian.
After arranging everything, Susanna left the hospital with Charles and Lillian as usual, but she felt Vivian's uncomfortable gaze from behind. Vivian never anticipated that a trap awaited her at the hospital.
Charles looked at Susanna. "Will this catch the bad guy? Do we need to do anything?"
"We don't need to do anything. He will handle it." Susanna still believed Aaron could handle this, but she worried he might lose his temper.
Susanna took Charles and Lillian home and found the door open with voices inside. She opened the door and walked in, seeing Maya and a stranger, along with a middle-aged woman.
