Chapter 579 All Kinds of People
Cecil thought to himself, 'This guy's the CEO's right-hand man, so does that mean Susanna's ex-husband is a big shot at the Abbott Group?'
The secretary replied, "I'm the president's secretary, so yeah, this is my boss, Mr. Abbott, the president of the Abbott Group."
When the secretary finished, Cecil's face went white. He had this nagging feeling that Aaron looked familiar, but he couldn't quite place him.
Then it hit him. Aaron was indeed the president of the Abbott Group. Cecil had once managed to sneak into a high-profile business event and saw him from afar. Someone like Cecil wouldn't normally get anywhere near a big company like the Abbott Group.
Cecil's legs turned to jelly. He stammered, looking at Susanna, "So, this is Mr. Abbott's ex-wife?"
Aaron shot a cold look at Cecil. "Even my ex-wife is out of your league."
Cecil's legs gave out, and he dropped to his knees. "Mr. Abbott, I had no idea Ms. Jones was your ex-wife. I messed up, please don't hold it against me."
Selene was baffled. "Cecil, why are you kneeling to him?"
Cecil, panicking, said, "Mom, he's the head of the Abbott Family, the top family in Lindwell. If we piss him off, it's not just me, our whole family is screwed. How can your friend be like this? Is she trying to harm me?"
If he crossed Aaron, Cecil's life would be over. Susanna was Aaron's ex-wife. How could someone like Cecil even think about being with her? It was clear Aaron still had feelings for Susanna.
Selene finally got it and grabbed Maya. "How could you be so heartless? You said you'd introduce me to a rich, easy-going woman with no family baggage, and it turns out she's the ex-wife of the president of the Abbott Group. You're getting us into deep trouble!" Cecil's kneeling showed just how serious this was. What if it really messed up Cecil's life?
Maya stammered, "I didn't know her ex-husband was the president of the Abbott Group. Madison never mentioned it."
They thought he was just a wealthy businessman, not realizing he was actually from the Abbott Family. Susanna was an orphan; how did she end up marrying into such a powerful family?
Madison snorted. "I didn't mention it because I wanted to keep things low-key and not cause trouble for Susanna, not for you to use it against her."
Maya's expression shifted quickly. "If you had said so earlier, there wouldn't have been this mess. I thought you were just embarrassed."
Madison was livid. "So you're saying this is my fault?"
"What else?"
Susanna saw that Madison couldn't win the argument. She knew Madison's personality always made her an easy target.
Susanna shot a cold look at Maya. "That's rich. I remember Madison and I both said no last night, and this morning you came over with something, and Madison didn't take it. How shameless can you be?"
Maya's face turned red, and she was speechless for a while. Finally, she muttered, "So, what do you want to do? If you don't want a blind date, fine, but why hit people?"
"You barged in and were rude. That woman hit first; we were just defending ourselves."
Seeing things were going south, Selene started wailing, "Cecil, my head hurts. Take me to the hospital."
Cecil got the hint and was about to take Selene away, but the bodyguards blocked them.
The secretary looked at Cecil. "You think you can leave without apologizing?"
She turned to Susanna and said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Jones. This was all a misunderstanding. We were misled. Please don't hold it against us. Can you forgive us?"
Susanna frowned. "The person you should apologize to is Madison."
Cecil quickly apologized to Madison, who, being soft-hearted, didn't make a fuss.
After Cecil and Selene left, only Maya was left standing there. The secretary looked at Maya. "You can either apologize or face a lawsuit. Your choice."
Maya thought she could weasel out of it again, but this time they were serious, so she had to apologize. Madison, a bit fed up, said, "Leave and don't bother Susanna again."
Maya, still bitter, left in a hurry. Once the troublemakers were gone, the place felt a lot calmer. Madison glanced at Aaron, who had suddenly shown up, and instinctively said, "Mr. Abbott?"
Aaron nodded at Madison. "Sorry, I'm late."
Madison continued, "You can put the kid down now; everyone's gone."
Only then did Aaron realize he had been holding Charles the whole time, too busy dealing with the situation to notice. Susanna also saw Charles in Aaron's arms. They really did look alike, especially side by side.
Charles felt a bit awkward and got down from Aaron's arms, his face serious but his eyes softening. When he was being bullied, Charles was really mad because he felt too small to fight Cecil. But he didn't expect Aaron to show up out of nowhere and handle the bad guys, standing up for Susanna.
While in Aaron's arms, Charles felt something special he had never felt before. Charles stood there quietly, not saying a word.
Aaron looked concerned and asked Susanna and Madison, "Are you both okay? Madison, do you need to go to the hospital?"
Madison waved it off. "I'm fine, just got my hair yanked a bit. I fought back, and Maya got hurt too. I grew up in the countryside, so I know how to handle this. I didn't mean to cause you any trouble."
Seeing Madison was really okay, Susanna finally relaxed. She looked up at Aaron. "Why are you here?"
