Chapter 552 Mr. Abbott's Indulgence in Spoiling His Children Knows No Bounds

Lillian was still kinda unsure how to address him, and every time she tried, she just ended up stammering.

Today, she got the awesome news that Charles was finally getting out of the hospital and coming home. She was so pumped and wanted to share her excitement with someone.

But everyone at home already knew.

The only person left to tell was him.

Aaron heard Lillian's cheerful voice on the other end of the phone, and he was a bit surprised, "Is he all better now?"

"Yep, Mommy said Charles can go to school like me soon, just like me."

Every year on her birthday, Lillian wished for Charles to get out of the hospital.

Finally, this year, her wish came true.

She was over the moon.

Aaron heard Lillian's sweet voice, and it made his heart melt. He put out his cigarette and said warmly, "I'm really happy too."

Lillian swung her little feet and paused before saying, "Me too. Charles isn't sick anymore. I hate being sick. Every time I'm sick, I have to take medicine. I don't want Charles to take medicine and get shots, so I lied to you with Mommy."

Knowing that lying wasn't good, Lillian figured it was okay to tell Aaron about Charles now that he knew.

Aaron lowered his voice, "I don't blame you."

"You're not mad?"

Aaron said, "No, I'm not mad. I'm sorry for not being there and making things hard for you."

Lillian thought for a bit and then said, "It's not hard. I'm doing fine. It's just that Charles is always sick. Every time Charles gets sick, Mommy gets really sad."

"Charles will get better. I promise I'll find a way to cure him."

Aaron had already looked into Charles's illness, but he didn't have all the details yet.

But now that he knew, his guilt grew every day.

Susanna was right. It was Michael who saved Charles's life.

Back then, maybe only he could have done that.

Lillian said honestly, "Michael will cure Charles. Look, he's already out of the hospital."

In the past, Aaron would have been angry and upset hearing Lillian talk so fondly of Michael.

But Michael had saved Charles.

He had to acknowledge that.

Aaron's voice was gentle, "In the future, Charles will grow up with you and won't get sick anymore."

Lillian said, "Then there really is a god in this world. He heard my wish and let Charles come home."

Aaron's mood lifted a lot. He had been thinking about how to find a cure for Charles, and now he heard that Charles was well enough to leave the hospital.

If he could be discharged and go to school, then he was mostly healed.

At least he wouldn't be in sudden danger anymore.

Aaron smiled and said, "Does he like anything in particular? I want to buy him a gift to celebrate."

After all, as Charles's biological father, he hadn't been there for him all these years. Now that he knew about Charles, he wanted to learn how to be a good and responsible dad.

He never thought he'd have a kid, let alone worry about making one happy, thinking kids were the most unpredictable and unreasonable creatures on the planet.

The more confident he used to be, the more worried he was now.

"Charles likes aircraft and asteroids. He's really into aliens."

To Lillian, Charles was amazing, liking stuff even adults couldn't wrap their heads around.

From Lillian's description, Aaron got that Charles was probably into techy stuff, thinking he was all about hacking and nothing else.

They chatted for a bit.

Aaron checked the time and said gently, "It's getting late. You should hit the hay. Kids need their sleep to grow tall."

Lillian obediently hung up her phone watch and drifted off to sleep, happy as a clam.

Aaron looked at the caller ID, his face showing a hint of worry.

Sam came out of the bathroom, humming a tune, "Didn't you just talk to Lillian? Why the long face? What did she say? Did Susanna go on a blind date?"

"No, Lillian just told me that Charles is getting out of the hospital the day after tomorrow."

Sam said, "That's the cool little troublemaker! But from what we found out, he was really sick and could be in danger at any time, so he's been living in the research institute all these years."

Charles had basically been living in the hospital since he was born, hardly ever leaving. Thinking about this, Sam couldn't really blame Charles for being a bit prickly.

"I was surprised too, but if Lillian says so, it must be true. It means Michael is more capable than I thought. I have to admit, he did save Charles's life." Aaron's expression was serious and complicated, a mix of feelings he couldn't quite pin down.

Sam plopped down on the sofa and thought for a moment, "But Michael is your rival in love."

Sam had known from the start that Michael was the guy Susanna had been engaged to since they were kids.

Now that Michael had done everything to cure Charles and was so close to Susanna, from any angle, his presence was a huge test for their relationship.

Aaron said, "I know, but I believe she'll choose me in the end."

"Why are you so sure Susanna will pick you? I mean, Michael's a great guy—looks, manners, skills, he's got it all. He might not make as much money as you, but he's a top figure in the medical field. You can't compete with him there. So, your scores should be about the same. But Michael should score higher. He saved Charles's life, so his standing with the Jones Family is better than yours."

Aaron's face darkened, and he glared at Sam, "If you can't say something nice, just zip it. Do you enjoy stepping on me?"

Sam covered his mouth and made a zipping motion.

Aaron continued, "I remember your dad bought a limited edition astronomical telescope, right?"

"Yeah, to please a kid. But after a few looks, he lost interest and now he's all about excavators."

Aaron said, "Sell it to me. I need it the day after tomorrow. Name your price and terms."

Sam guessed Aaron wanted to buy the telescope for Charles.
