Chapter 73 Destiny is a Bitch

Susanna was a bit hesitant. After all, Justin and Aaron almost got into a fight at the auction before. And last time, when she got sick and fainted, Aaron took her to the hospital and happened to meet Austin, who seemed to suspect that the child was Aaron's.

If Austin now found out that her friend's relative was Maria...

Susanna sighed silently in her heart. It was difficult to handle.

"Susanna, what are you thinking about?" Austin asked.

Austin finished the food Susanna made and noticed that she seemed distracted. "Is there some difficulty? Or does your friend's family need money?"

"No, there isn't," Susanna said immediately. Susanna knew that Aaron couldn't possibly be short on money.

Susanna paused. "Austin, no matter the situation, you'll help me, right?"

"Of course, you're my sister," Austin said firmly.

Austin could tell her hesitation and reached out to touch her head. "It's okay. You can tell me which hospital, and I'll accompany you to see what's going on."

"Austin, could you first ask the doctor if he can come?" Susanna replied.

"Alright. Susanna, rest up early," Austin said.

Susanna stood up and returned to her room. She was unsure whether to tell Austin about this matter and whether Aaron needed her to do such a thing. Perhaps in the end, Aaron would think that she was meddling too much or that she was trying to take credit in front of Maria.

Susanna lay on the bed and covered her face. She didn't want to confront it directly, so she decided to do it this way for now.

The next morning, after she woke up, Susanna suddenly felt a little uncomfortable in her belly, but she didn't know what was wrong. She was worried about the baby inside her belly, so she hurriedly called Austin. "Austin, I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable in my belly."

Upon hearing her words, Austin anxiously asked, "Where are you? Do you need me to come over?"

"I'm on my way to find you. I don't know if I'm overthinking it." Susanna said.

"Susanna, if you're feeling unwell, you should go to the hospital and get it checked out. After all, you're pregnant now, and you need to be more careful." Austin said.

Susanna also had the same thoughts as Austin's. She took a taxi directly to the hospital.

Austin had been waiting for her at the hospital entrance. "Susanna, I've arranged a doctor for you. Let's go for an ultrasound examination."

Susanna was also a little nervous, but she went straight for the ultrasound examination. The final results showed no problems.

The obstetrician spoke up, "It might be the baby's growth affecting your uterus, or it could be due to recent mental stress. Just relax for a while."

Susanna thought about Maria's surgery. Maybe it's the reason for her mental stress. She came out with the ultrasound report, but Austin was not outside.

She took out her phone and saw Austin's WhatsApp message.
Austin: [I have a patient that I need to check on. Once you're done with the examination, rest on the chair and wait for me.]

After securely placing the ultrasound report, she went to the first floor to find a chair to sit on. However, as soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she coincidentally ran into Erica. When she saw Erica, she instinctively hid her bag behind her. After all, the ultrasound report was inside, and she was worried that Erica would go crazy.

"Susanna, what are you doing here?" Erica asked, surprised to see her.

"This is a hospital. If you can come, why can't I?" Susanna replied coldly.

After stepping out of the elevator, Susanna didn't want to waste any more time talking to Erica. She tried to get away from her as soon as possible.

But Erica caught up after her, "Stop. There's something I need to tell you. Now, that my family has permitted me to marry Aaron, there's nothing to stop us from getting together. You'd better give up on him and not get any more delusions of grandeur."

Susanna stopped when she heard Erica's words and questioned her, "If that's the case, then why did Aaron have to find another doctor for Maria's surgery? Isn't your brother a famous doctor? You are getting married, yet he refuses to perform the surgery on Maria."

Erica fell into silence after Susanna's inquiry. She had come to talk to Austin about this matter.

Of course, Erica wouldn't admit anything and raised her chin. "Who said my brother won't perform the surgery? Things are different now. My brother will agree to it."

Susanna examined Erica carefully and added, "Erica, you should know that Aaron cares about Maria a lot. If he finds out that you lied about Maria's health, you will be in trouble."

Erica sneered, "Susanna, you better take care of yourself. Maria's surgery will happen soon, and Aaron and I will get engaged as planned."

Susanna watched as Erica entered the elevator and then turned to find a seat in the empty lobby. She glanced at the pregnancy test result in her bag, pushing aside her negative emotions. She hoped that Erica's words were true and that Maria's surgery would go smoothly.

However, Susanna couldn't understand why Erica's brother hadn't shown up yet, even after all this time, and if he had agreed to perform the surgery. Aaron had already contacted other doctors, indicating that he was also suspicious of Erica's honesty.

So, Susanna asked Austin to find a suitable doctor for Maria's surgery.

As Erica took the elevator upstairs and went straight to Austin's consultation room, she found it empty. However, at that moment, Austin returned from the ward and saw Erica waiting outside his office, appearing slightly annoyed. "Why are you here?"

"Austin, I came to tell you some good news. Edward has agreed to the marriage between me and Aaron," Erica said.

Austin paused, his brow furrowing, and he questioned, "Erica, even though you are not a part of the Jones family, you've grown up in our house, and we've never treated you poorly. I want you to find a good man. But is that divorced man from the Abbott family really the best option for you? Do you have to marry him?"

"Austin, Aaron got divorced because Mrs. Abbott decided for him to marry a woman, even though he didn't love her at all. Moreover, they have already divorced." Erica explained.

"The reason that woman married into the Abbott family was because Aaron was in a coma. But when he regained consciousness, he immediately kicked her out. Is this appropriate? It shows there's a problem with Aaron's character!" Austin retorted.

Erica quickly explained, "Austin, he didn't want this to happen. Besides, even if he has been divorced, I still like him."

"Erica, if you really like him so much, then why didn't you find him when he was in a life-threatening condition and likely to become a vegetable? Why are you insisting on marrying him only now?" Austin continued.

Erica felt awkward. "It's because I missed the chance once. I will not miss the chance again."

When Aaron was in a near-death car accident, she couldn't possibly want to marry a man who was on the verge of dying. But unexpectedly, Aaron recovered, and he woke up.

Every time Erica thought about this, she regretted it deeply. If she had taken a chance back then, she would already be Aaron's wife and wouldn't have to go to such lengths to marry him now.

Erica looked up and said, "Austin, Edward already agreed. In the future, we will be family. Please help Aaron's grandmother with the surgery."
