Chapter 64 The Divorced Man
When Erica saw Austin, she ran happily towards him. "Austin, you really are here! I thought I was mistaken."
Austin furrowed his brows and instinctively walked in the opposite direction of the infusion room so that they wouldn't be seen by Susanna later.
He regretted agreeing with Edward about bringing a girl as a substitute for Susanna. Now, every time he faced his biological sister, Susanna, he felt guilty.
Austin looked at Erica again. He didn't have much affection for his adopted sister, and Erica usually just followed Jane around, so she didn't spend much time with him and their brothers, lacking a deep sibling bond. But Erica had always liked being around them, her actions exuding a deliberate attempt to please.
That was also one of the reasons why Austin didn't particularly like Erica.
Erica forced a smile. "Austin, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
"Nothing. What do you want from me?" Austin asked.
"Austin, I've been asking you where you were before, but you never told me, didn't answer my calls, or replied to my messages. And now you've come to Lindwell. I was so happy when I saw you earlier." Erica replied.
When Erica saw Austin, a burst of joy surged through her heart. Austin being in Lindwell meant they were one step closer to persuading him to agree to the surgery.
Austin's expression remained indifferent. "Yes, I've been busy with work."
"Austin, I know why you didn't want to tell me you were in Lindwell. But I really like Aaron. If you agree to perform the surgery for Aaron's grandmother, he will agree to marry me. Austin, I haven't asked you for much all these years. Could you please do this surgery for my sake?" Erica pleaded, looking at Austin pitifully, her demeanor humble.
After hearing Aaron's name, Austin immediately rejected, "No!"
Austin thought to himself, 'If Erica married Aaron, the Abbott family would inevitably have frequent interactions with the Jones family. That was absolutely not acceptable!'
Besides, Aaron, that divorced man, had no redeeming qualities.
Erica's face turned dark. "Austin, why not? The Abbott family is the wealthiest in Lindwell. Aaron is also highly capable, and I think he's great."
"He's been married before," Austin explained.
"But I don't mind," Erica said.
"I mind," Austin insisted with a serious tone. He added, "Erica, this is the last time I tell you. I won't perform the surgery, and I won't agree to you marrying Aaron. I'm doing this for your good!"
After saying this, Austin walked away with a cold face. Erica stood alone, frozen in place, her expression very gloomy. She looked at Austin's back, completely unable to understand why he didn't agree!
But the only comforting thing was that Austin said he was doing this for her good, which meant there was still a chance for her to persuade him. After all, she was the heiress of the Jones family.
Erica took out her phone and called her assistant. She scolded, "Austin has already arrived at the hospital in Lindwell. What's going on? You've been searching for him for so long and couldn't find him, even though he’s in Lindwell?"
"Sorry, Miss. Mr. Jones has always liked to be alone and doesn't like to bring an assistant. It's not easy to find out where he is, especially when he doesn't want to be found," the assistant replied.
"Useless! Find out why Austin came to Lindwell and whether there was any conflict between Austin and Aaron in the past. I want to know everything." Erica commanded the assistant.
Erica hung up the phone angrily. She wondered, 'Apart from what happened three years ago, is there anything else that happened between Austin and Aaron? It seems like Austin's opinion of Aaron is even worse now.'
---
Susanna woke up after sleeping and smelled the scent of disinfectant, realizing that she was still in the hospital. But she was really much better now. The medicine prescribed by Austin was quite effective.
"Miss Miller, do you need me to help you to the bathroom, or would you like something to eat?" A nurse asked.
Susanna saw a nurse standing beside her. She asked, "Who are you?"
"I am a nurse hired by your family for you," the nurse replied.
Susanna was actually a bit hungry. She said, "Buy me some food, but nothing too greasy."
Just as she finished speaking, Austin walked in carrying a food container. "Susanna, I bet you must be hungry. I brought you some food."
Susanna pointed at the nurse next to her in confusion. "Austin, did you ask a nurse to look after me?"
Austin frowned. "I didn't hire a nurse for you."
Susanna looked at the nurse in astonishment. "Did you mistake me for someone else?"
The nurse glanced at the information. "I didn't make a mistake. You're the patient in bed number 3, Susanna."
"Did the person who contacted you leave any information?" Susanna continued.
"Yes. His last name is Abbott." The nurse replied.
Susanna didn't expect Aaron to hire the nurse for her. Her mood instantly became complicated, and she didn't understand why Aaron would do such a thing!
Austin's expression immediately changed when he heard Aaron's name. Aaron indeed had ulterior motives towards Susanna, even hiring a nurse!
Austin coldly dismissed the nurse. "We don't need a nurse here. You can leave."
The nurse reluctantly left the ward and immediately called the person who contacted her. "Hello, Mr. Miller, the person in bed number 3, said she doesn't need a nurse. Can you pay me for the hours I worked earlier?"
Jimmy was puzzled. "Why doesn't she need a nurse? It's mealtime now. After she woke up, did you bring her food?"
"Miss Miller has a good relationship with the doctor, and the doctor brought her food, so she doesn't need a nurse anymore." The nurse's expression was gloomy as she described the situation. Then she added, "Miss Miller is quite charming. That handsome doctor is very popular in this hospital. I've never seen him care so much about any other patient. He's especially attentive to Miss Miller."
Jimmy felt anxious, unsure of how to explain things to Aaron.
After hanging up the phone and giving the nurse her salary, Jimmy finally returned to his office and saw the man buried in files.
Jimmy felt he was in a difficult position.
Aaron glanced at his watch and noticed Jimmy's expression. "What's wrong?"
"The nurse from the hospital called to request her salary," Jimmy said.
"Was Susanna discharged so quickly?" Aaron asked.
"No. I can't explain it. Please listen to the recorded conversation." Jimmy said as he handed the phone to Aaron. After listening to the recording, the temperature in the office dropped significantly.
Aaron glanced at his phone. He really underestimated Susanna's charm.
No wonder when he saw that doctor, the way he spoke to him seemed weird!
Narrowing his eyes, Aaron said, "Investigate who that doctor is."
Jimmy had just retrieved his phone when Aaron's phone received a call with the label ‘Grandma.’
Aaron answered the call. "Grandma."
"Aaron, isn't it time for Susanna to have a prenatal check-up?"
