Chapter 163 When Did Your Worldview Become Distorted
For a moment, Susanna couldn't figure out what gave Elaine the confidence to say such things to her.
"Susanna, are you feeling guilty? Did I hit the nerve, so you don't dare to refute?" Elaine questioned.
Seeing Susanna remain silent, she was overjoyed as she had finally discovered this big secret that no one else knew.
Susanna remained calm. "Yes, you hit the nerve. I'm pregnant, and I've been hiding it from everyone while secretly planning this heir agreement document."
"Susanna, you've finally confessed, haven't you? I'm going to reveal this to everyone and expose your true intentions," said Elaine.
Susanna lifted her eyelids, mocking, "Elaine, you're really stupid!"Her eyes were filled with disdain.
Elaine was a bit unwilling. "What do you mean? You're the stupid one!"
"What do I mean? Can't you read this document? Aaron has already signed it, which means it can take effect anytime as soon as I sign it. Once it takes effect, the child in my belly will be the heir to the Abbott Group, and in the future, the Abbott family will have to heed my commands."
Susanna looked over with a half-smile, adding, "Your future credit card limit will depend on my mood!"
Elaine's face turned pale. "Don't be so smug. As long as I expose your true colors, Aaron will never let this document take effect, and you won't succeed."
"But as long as Maria is around, and with the child in my belly, what can any of you do to me?" Susanna countered.
She kept smirking, "So, aren't you stupid?"
Elaine swallowed hard. Her credit card had been frozen for a while, and she had been using a secondary card from Erica with a low limit, which was really frustrating.
If Susanna continued to be the mistress of the Abbott family by virtue of her child, wouldn't Elaine be finished?
Elaine took a few steps back, turned around in horror, and ran away.
Susanna watched Elaine's retreating figure and smiled, mocking inwardly, 'She was really easy to scare!'
However, Susanna still hadn't figured out why Elaine was so sure she was pregnant. If Elaine really exposed it, she would be in danger.
Susanna touched her belly, meditating that she had to make plans in advance.
The surgery took two hours. Susanna sat for a while, then stood up and went to the restroom.
She happened to run into Aaron there.
Their eyes met, and the air was filled with a certain awkwardness.
Susanna spoke, "Excuse me, I need to go to the restroom."
Aaron stepped aside, and she quickly went to the restroom. Her mind was a mess, filled with Elaine's words and Aaron's refusal to divorce.
The Abbott family was really troublesome.
Susanna sighed as she came out of the restroom. When she returned to the surgery waiting area, she saw Aaron sitting on a chair, his laptop set aside, staring out the window as if in a daze.
She hesitated for a moment and then walked over.
Following Aaron's gaze, she saw two birds perched on a branch, grooming each other and pecking at each other's beaks.
Even birds were displaying their affection in public?
The atmosphere between Aaron and Susanna fell silent again.
Soon, Susanna's stomach growled, breaking the silence.
She blushed and covered her unruly stomach. It wasn't even that late; why was she hungry already?
It must have been because she ate too little in the morning, thanks to Erica almost hitting her and causing her breakfast to fall to the ground.
Aaron glanced at her and then told his assistant, "Bring lunch over."
Susanna quickly spoke to the assistant, "Wait a minute."
Aaron's thin lips tightened into a cold line. "What? Can't I even afford to feed you?"
Susanna was a bit embarrassed, saying, "No, I mean I want something light, preferably with soup and fruit."
After she finished speaking, it seemed to be more awkward.
Aaron tugged at his collar. "Susanna, you sure know how to make demands. Did I say I'd feed you?"
Susanna thickened her skin and replied seriously, "As a family member of the patient, shouldn't you provide meals for guests visiting the patient? You are so stingy!"
Aaron was even more annoyed after hearing her explanation.
'So it is my fault in the end?'
Soon, Aaron's assistant brought a very appetizing and light lunch, along with a small dining cart for convenience.
Susanna picked up the food and started eating without any hesitation.
Mainly because the two children in her belly were protesting, she had no choice but to eat seriously.
Aaron didn't have much of an appetite initially, but seeing Susanna eat so heartily, he couldn't help but eat a bit more himself.
Glancing at Susanna, he said, "Susanna, have you gained weight?"
Susanna choked on his words and quickly denied it, "Don't talk nonsense. I haven't gained weight. How can you say so?"
Was Aaron that observant?
"You have a double chin," Aaron pointed.
Susanna touched her chin, noticing it did seem a bit rounder. She shot back, "I gained weight because I'm happy. And besides, am I costing all your money?"
Aaron, now used to her sharp tongue, replied calmly, "You've been in the Abbott family for three years."
"Yeah, I didn't gain weight in three years, but I gained weight shortly after moving out. What does that tell you?" Susanna countered.
Aaron squinted. "That I mistreated you?"
"You know it very well whether you mistreated me or not!"
Aaron was annoyed. "Even though we had no emotional connection in those three years, I never mistreated you in life. I never shorted you on living expenses or pocket money."
Susanna snorted, "Yes, you never mistreated me in that regard, but Maud always hinted that I shouldn't spend your money, saying you worked hard and I shouldn't hold you back."
Aaron said, "You're usually so assertive. If my mom told you not to spend money, you wouldn't listen? Are you that obedient?"
Susanna was momentarily speechless, then laughed。 "That's because I was stupid before. If it were now, I'd be a wealthy wife shopping, doing beauty treatments, buying designer bags, aand traveling everywhere. I wouldn't be an unappreciated housewife!"
She now understood that compromising only wronged herself and didn't move others.
Thinking about the three wasted years, she felt she had been incredibly foolish.
Aaron squinted slightly, his gaze meaningful. "That's right. As Mrs. Abbott, you should be the one bullying others. Who would dare bully you? Even if you face difficulties, I'll help you solve them. What are you afraid of?"
