Chapter 533 Do You Think You're the Hotel Owner?

Susanna was fuming. The reservation rules at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel were set in stone, and not even her family could mess with them.

She couldn't wrap her head around the fact that the general manager had the nerve to make such a call on his own.

If this got out, it would totally trash the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel's reputation.

The general manager looked a bit sheepish and quickly said, "Ms. Jones, let's keep this on the down-low, okay? If you need me to set something up for you, I can totally help."

"Do I look like I need your help? I'm asking who gave you the right to mess with the guest reservations?"

The general manager clammed up, and Elaine butted in, "He's the general manager; he can adjust the reservation order. Susanna, I get you're mad. Our Abbott Family cutting in line for this birthday party must be a tough pill to swallow, but you can't take it out on him."

"Elaine, zip it. Do you have any right to butt in when I'm talking to the general manager? His actions are serious and break the hotel's employee code of conduct."

Susanna was livid. She couldn't believe this acting general manager was such a pushover, with zero principles.

She had made it crystal clear before that reservations should never be changed unless the customer requested it.

Today was an investment banquet, and the general manager actually dared to openly promise to adjust the queue order. How ridiculous!

Elaine, feeling a bit deflated after being yelled at, straightened up and said, "Susanna, who do you think you are to yell at me like this? I'm standing up for him. He already said he'd set up a birthday party for me. Why are you so jealous? Bringing up employee codes of conduct, isn't that a joke? In our world of the wealthy, those so-called rules are just for show, meant to keep the poor in line."

Seeing things getting heated, the general manager quickly tried to smooth things over, "Miss, we can't discuss this openly. If there's an issue, contact me privately. I have some matters to attend to now. Please enjoy some food; the banquet will start soon."

He didn't want things to blow up, fearing he might really lose his job.

"Hold it right there. Who said you could leave?" Susanna glared at the general manager, saying, "If you can't explain this, you might as well kiss your job goodbye."

The general manager's face went pale, and he pleaded, "Ms. Jones, I just got promoted. Please don't report me. I'll definitely lose my job. If you want to book a banquet at the hotel, I can arrange it for you. Just don't tell anyone about this, okay?"

"Do you think I'm saying all this just to get you to arrange a banquet for me?"

The general manager's face said it all—he totally thought that was her angle.

Susanna looked him dead in the eye and said, "You're fired, effective immediately. Don't bother coming in tomorrow. The Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel's rules strictly prohibit changing customer reservation times for any reason. You've clearly broken this rule. If word gets out, the damage to the hotel would be so bad that you couldn't make up for it even if you lost everything."

Elaine snapped, "Enough, Susanna. Stop pretending. Do you think you can fire him just because you say so? Do you think you own the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel?"

The general manager quickly turned to Elaine, "Miss, I'm just an employee. It's tough for me. Could you please talk to Ms. Jones and ask her not to report me?"

He was just trying to keep these rich folks happy. Why were they all ganging up on him?

Maud chimed in, "Susanna, let it go. Don't think you can do whatever you want just because you've got money now. It's hard for him to find a job. If you really want him to set up a banquet for you, just say so. No need to report him and get him fired."

Elaine added, "Yeah, Susanna. You're just jealous that we can cut in line to book a banquet. Do you really need to report him? If you have a problem, take it out on me."

Susanna smirked, "What makes you think you can handle me? Everyone knows the hotel's reservation system is super strict. You can't just change reservation times or orders for anyone. What he's doing is illegal and unfair to others."

Amelia nodded. "That's right, Susanna's got a point. Money isn't everything. I think the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel's system is great. It stops people from using connections to do shady stuff."

Susanna looked at the general manager and said, "You don't need to stick around. You can leave."

The general manager's face fell, and he pleaded with Susanna, "Ms. Jones, please don't report me. I'll agree to any condition you have. Our hotel has special themed banquets, and I can get you a spot. You know how hard it is to book those, right?"

Elaine's eyes lit up, "Is it that hard to book? Can you get one for me too?"

Amelia sneered, "You still want another one? He almost lost his job trying to get you to cut in line."

Elaine shot back, "What does that have to do with me? It's because Susanna is jealous and wants to report him. If she didn't report him, there wouldn't be any problem."

Susanna said, "I'm maintaining the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel's reputation. Today's investment banquet is to find partners for the hotel. As the general manager, do you have any idea how bad that would be for the hotel's reputation if your words get out?"

The general manager quickly apologized, "I really understand, Ms. Jones. Please don't report me. Just pretend you didn't hear what I said earlier, okay?"

Elaine got angry, "So does that mean your promise to arrange my birthday party doesn't count anymore?"

The general manager looked troubled, "I'm sorry, Miss. It's our company's policy. As the general manager, I can't make decisions on my own, or I'll really lose my job. Please, be generous and let this go. Just pretend you didn't hear what I said."

After saying this, the general manager hurriedly ran off, afraid that sticking around would really get him reported.

Susanna watched him go, feeling a bit amused. Did he really think leaving would make everything go away?

Elaine fumed, "Susanna, it's all your fault. You ruined my birthday party. Are you happy now?"

Susanna raised an eyebrow, "Do you really think he could successfully cut in line for you?"
