Chapter 257 She didn't quite react
When Susanna heard the news, she started piecing together what happened at the orphanage years ago.
She realized Erica knew Edward and the others were looking for her but chose to lie and hide the truth.
Erica had taken her place, joining the Jones family as an adopted daughter and living in luxury.
Edward's face turned cold as he stared at Erica. "The Jones family won't let this go. Get ready to face the consequences. You're going to jail."
Maud added angrily, "And I'll make sure Aaron's injury is dealt with too."
Who would've thought Erica would grab a knife and almost hurt Aaron? Maud now saw Erica as a lunatic. Thankfully, Susanna married into the family, not this crazy woman!
Erica started screaming, crying, and laughing like a madwoman.
Edward frowned and ordered, "Keep an eye on her."
Susanna stepped in, calm but firm. "That's enough. The event is about to start. Let's go."
She turned to Aaron. "You should get checked at the hospital." With that, she led the Jones family away, leaving the chaos behind.
Edward looked at Aaron. "We're taking Susanna back to Novaria. Stay out of her life."
Aaron stayed silent, his intense gaze on Susanna, his emotions unreadable. The decision wasn't just up to the Jones family. Susanna was carrying his child.
Why would Susanna hide the child and let him misunderstand her relationship with Austin if the child wasn't his? The answer was clear—he was the father.
No matter Susanna's identity, this fact remained.
Aaron felt grateful for the child. Without it, he had no reason to keep Susanna.
Meanwhile, Susanna walked out of the dressing room with her brothers, her mind racing. She thought she had finally connected with her family, only to find out they were wealthy! She was set to inherit the Jones legacy, while Erica went from heiress to orphan in an instant.
They entered the elevator in silence.
Edward cautiously asked, "Susanna, are you mad?"
Justin quickly said, "Susanna, it was Edward's idea to pretend to be poor and hide our identities. We didn't agree. If you're angry, blame Edward."
Brian didn't hesitate to throw Edward under the bus. "Yeah, we never wanted to deceive you. It was all Edward's idea."
Susanna looked up, surprised to see her five brothers distancing themselves from Edward.
Edward stood alone, looking pitifully at Susanna. "I made a mistake, underestimating human greed and malice. I didn't expect Erica to be so scheming. If I hadn't brought her back, she might have told us where you were to live a good life. It's all my fault."
Susanna's eyes reddened as she comforted him. "Edward, it's not your fault. Who could've thought Erica would be so malicious at such a young age? I can't remember what happened when I was little, so I don't know what lies Erica told back then."
She looked at her brothers. "I don't care about the past anymore. Knowing I wasn't abandoned and that my family never stopped looking for me is enough."
She wasn't alone; her family adored her. No reason to hold grudges.
Edward's eyes reddened, his voice catching. "Susanna, you're too kind and considerate." He always believed his sister was the most compassionate, sweetest, and understanding person in the world.
Susanna smiled. "Let's go, we have a graduation banquet to attend."
All six men had reddened eyes. Their sister was undoubtedly the most lovable person.
Aviana saw the emotional scene and sighed softly. "Susanna, let's head out. The elevator's here."
Susanna walked out with Aviana, followed by her six handsome brothers. Their entrance immediately caught the attention of all the girls in the room, causing a brief stir.
Susanna knew her brothers' presence would create a buzz. Who could resist a bunch of good-looking guys? And there were six of them!
She sat in the audience, looking at the beautifully decorated hall she had arranged, with her family behind her, feeling very happy.
Suddenly, she spotted Wendy's shadow in the corner on the second floor.
Susanna was taken aback, locking eyes with Wendy.
She noticed the bruises on Wendy's face, as if she'd been in a fight. Could Erica be behind this?
"Susanna, what are you looking at?"
"Nothing."
Susanna smiled. When she looked up again, the figure was gone. Did she see it wrong?
Upstairs, Wendy looked at Susanna in the VIP section, her eyes filled with resentment. She had heard everything clearly. Susanna was the true Jones heir, while Erica was just an adopted orphan.
But why did they all come from the same orphanage, and why did they have better lives than her?
Wendy's eyes flickered with defiance. Like Susanna, she had been left at the orphanage as a child. She had dreamt of being the long-lost heir to a wealthy family, either switched at birth or lost by mistake.
She had envisioned reuniting with her biological parents, reclaiming her position as the rightful heir, marrying a charming man, and leading a blissful life. But now, all those dreams had vanished.
She had been schemed against by Erica and expelled from school. The real heir to the Jones family was Susanna. Now she had nothing!
Wendy seethed with frustration. Why did Susanna get to be the chosen heir while she was left behind?
Why were they both abandoned at the same orphanage, only to lead such different lives later on?
Why did it seem like luck favored everyone else, while she struggled tirelessly to study and survive without ever reaping the rewards?
If she couldn't have it, why should others be entitled to it?
Wendy turned and disappeared into the darkness.
Susanna's gaze lingered on the empty space where Wendy had stood moments ago, a chill creeping up her spine. An unexplainable sense of unease washed over her, causing a shiver to run down her back. She couldn't quite identify the source of this ominous feeling.
