Chapter 514 Forgiveness
Susanna stared at Aaron, the heir to the Abbott Family, in total disbelief.
He just admitted he felt inferior to her. Seriously? If anyone heard this, they'd think it was a joke. It was hard to wrap her head around it.
Right now, Susanna was even doubting if this was really Aaron.
Aaron's voice was rough, "Don't look at me with those pitying eyes."
Susanna felt a bit awkward. Honestly, her emotions were all over the place.
The Aaron she knew was proud and exceptional, the guy she secretly loved and admired deeply.
As an orphan, she once felt so lucky to marry him, even though she felt inferior.
Those five years of marriage were everything to her, her whole youth wrapped up in her admiration for him.
But youth is meant to be remembered, not held onto.
So, their love ended in divorce.
She never expected Aaron to be the Abbott Family's illegitimate child!
That was a bombshell.
She had wondered why Aaron brought Vivian into the Abbott Family and why he was so good to Ramond.
Now it all made sense.
Susanna coughed and said, "You've got it wrong. Why would I pity you? I wouldn't even pity a beggar on the street, let alone you. You're doing way better than a beggar."
"Susanna, I admit I was a jerk. I didn't take marriage or feelings seriously. I let you down. I hope now you can..."
"Stop." Susanna cut him off, "Don't say those cheesy lines. It's not you."
"What do you think I should be like?" Aaron trapped her in his arms, looking down at her intensely.
Susanna felt a bit breathless. She pressed her lips together. "Isn't it always women chasing after you?"
"Yeah, that's true."
Aaron's voice was deep. Susanna secretly gritted her teeth; he was so full of himself.
The next second, Aaron bent down to be at eye level with her.
Now, their eyes were on the same level.
Susanna's breath hitched. "What do you want to do?"
His gaze was intense. "I want to kiss you."
Susanna's face heated up. She pushed Aaron's chest away. "Dream on. That's illegal, you know? One lawyer's letter and I could bankrupt you. Believe it?"
She tried to leave but Aaron held her tight.
He hugged her, a hint of a smile in his voice, "I was just teasing. You took it seriously. How could I dare treat you like that?"
"Good that you know. I'm not the same person who was humble in marriage five years ago."
"I know, so I can only dream about these things." His gaze was scorching, straightforward and unhidden.
Susanna had shared a bed with him for three years and knew exactly what that look meant.
She turned her head away from his gaze and said, "Let go of me."
"No way! If I let go, you'll leave, just like you did five years ago."
"Aaron, get it straight. Five years ago, you threw the divorce papers at me and kicked me out."
Thinking back to that time, Susanna wished she could launch Aaron into space.
Aaron sighed, "Actually, not long after I gave you those papers, I regretted it."
"Really? I didn't see it." Susanna looked him up and down, not buying it for a second.
She snorted, "I remember you had another woman by your side back then. How could you regret divorcing me?"
Aaron pressed his lips together. "Back then, I didn't have feelings for any woman. They were just like decorations to me."
"So, I was just a decoration too?" Susanna's eyes turned cold, and she felt the urge to slap him.
"No, you were different."
"Do you think I'd believe that? You still went through with the divorce."
Aaron grabbed her wrist and placed it on his face.
Susanna was stunned. What was he trying to do?
She tried to pull her hand back, but Aaron held it firmly. His eyes were dark and deep. "Then slap me to vent your anger."
"Aaron, are you crazy?"
"Yeah, maybe I am. After I proposed the divorce and you left, I felt lost. I didn't know why at first. But when I realized my feelings for you, you were gone. The Jones Family said you had died."
Susanna thought back to that time and stayed silent.
She had been so out of it, she didn't know what was happening.
It wasn't until later, when she woke up fully, that she found herself in a hospital in Philadelphia.
They told her the baby might not survive, and she completely broke down.
In the end, the Jones Family used a psychologist to hypnotize her, making her forget the five years of marriage and Aaron's existence.
Susanna pressed her lips together. "Actually, they didn't lie to you. I almost died. Because I refused to give up the baby, I was in the ICU, being resuscitated constantly."
Hearing this, guilt flashed in Aaron's eyes.
He said, "I'm sorry. I didn't do well enough before. I never thought I would fall for a woman and couldn't forget her."
Hearing his late confession, Susanna lowered her eyes. "Haven't you been doing well these past five years?"
"Not really, because you weren't there."
"You were doing fine before you met me."
Susanna's eyes stayed cautious. She wasn't going to be swayed by Aaron's confession. She was rational and realistic now.
"That was because I hadn't met you yet. Now, it's because I lost you. It's different."
Susanna avoided his intense gaze. "Aaron, I accept your apologies and what you just said. I don't hate you anymore."
"Really?" A hint of joy appeared in Aaron's eyes, like a big gray wolf wagging its tail.
He said, "Susanna, I'm so happy."
"You're happy too soon."
