Chapter 538 Playing Tricks? Who Can't?
Susanna caught Amelia's words and shot her a serious look.
She had a gut feeling that Amelia had made up her mind.
Vivian had come to this party with the intention of revealing her true identity.
But Amelia's recent words completely thwarted Vivian's plan.
Owen had already said Vivian was the daughter of an old friend and that he was looking out for her. Even if people suspected she was his illegitimate daughter, they wouldn't say it out loud.
Everyone here had status and smarts; they wouldn't embarrass Owen to his face.
Once Vivian made her debut and Owen acknowledged her as his old friend's daughter, it would be tough to change that story later.
Vivian must be fuming now, with her perfect plan wrecked by Amelia.
Susanna noticed Vivian's face looked pretty sour.
Right now, Vivian was about to blow a fuse, never thinking Amelia would react so fast this time.
She figured Amelia would lose her cool, spill the beans about being an illegitimate daughter, or start cursing, giving her a chance to act.
But to her surprise, Amelia didn't make a scene. Instead, she handed her the identity of an old friend's daughter and said Owen would recognize her as his goddaughter.
Amelia suddenly seemed like a whole new person, making Vivian instantly cautious.
This time, she had totally underestimated her opponent.
Was Amelia getting advice from someone?
Vivian thought about this and glanced at Susanna next to her.
As long as Susanna was around, nothing she did would go smoothly. Just like when she got back to the Abbott Family, she used Wendy to get rid of Erica and enjoyed five years of peace.
She thought she could rely on Ramond to stay in the Abbott Family. But when Susanna came back, everything fell apart. She got kicked out of the Abbott Family and even ended up in prison.
This time, she thought Amelia would be a piece of cake, but once again, Susanna messed up her plan.
Vivian could only look at Owen with a pitiful expression and say, "Dad, aren't you going to say something?"
Right now, Vivian's only hope was Owen. He had promised that if she let Ramond be adopted into the Richardson Family, he would acknowledge her identity.
She had convinced Owen to bring her to this party today.
After all, Ramond would make his debut at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel later, so attending this party was just the warm-up.
Vivian never expected to be stopped.
Owen's face stiffened, finding himself in a tough spot.
Honestly, Owen didn't want to publicly acknowledge Vivian as his illegitimate daughter, as it would seriously hurt his reputation.
But for Ramond's sake, he brought Vivian to the party, not expecting her to reveal her identity on her own.
Vivian really wasn't cutting it, unlike Amelia, who saw the bigger picture. Not only did she smooth things over, but she also made Owen look good for helping out an old friend's daughter.
Owen cleared his throat and quickly said, "Vivian, don't worry. As long as you're with our family, you're my daughter. I'll treat you like my own. No one will look down on you, I promise."
As long as he brought Vivian back and treated her well, it didn't matter if he officially acknowledged her as his daughter.
This was a win-win for him.
Amelia smiled and added, "Yeah, my dad's always been helpful. Now that Vivian's with us, we're family. Vivian, you don't need to stress about these events. I can show you the ropes if you need help."
Owen nodded approvingly and said to Amelia, "You've really grown up. Vivian's been through a lot and doesn't know much about these things. You should take her out, introduce her around, and show her the ropes. I mean, as Raymond's mom, she can't be clueless, right?"
Amelia hid her disgust and kept smiling, "Sure, Dad, don't worry. I'll teach her well."
Even though it was tough to make that call earlier, seeing Vivian's frustrated and helpless look now made Amelia feel it was the right move.
Using the same tactics against her was definitely the way to go.
Vivian barely kept her cool. If she lost it now, all her efforts would go down the drain.
If she embarrassed herself here, Owen would definitely not acknowledge her or bring her out again.
Vivian took a deep breath and said, "Sure, there are many things I don't understand. In the future, I don't want to be laughed at in front of everyone, so I'll rely on you to teach me. After all, we're family now. If I mess up, people will laugh at our Richardson Family."
Amelia's eyes flashed coldly. Was that a threat?
She replied with a half-smile, "Don't worry; I'll do my best. Vivian, you need to step up your game in the future."
Vivian glared at Amelia, seething. How dare Amelia talk to her like that?
Susanna saw Vivian's frustration and exchanged a knowing glance with Amelia.
They shared a look but kept quiet.
Someone nearby quickly tried to smooth things over, saying, "Mr. Richardson, your daughter is so well-mannered and graceful. You're really lucky, unlike my son, who is so disappointing."
"Yeah, these days, having a daughter is better than having a son. Daughters are hardworking, ambitious, and understanding."
"Exactly. When I was sick, only my daughter took care of me. My son was nowhere to be seen. What's the use of having a son?"
Vivian's face stiffened. How could having a son be useless?
The reason she could return to Owen's side was because Owen valued having a male heir to inherit the family business.
Amelia's eyes flashed coldly, and she deliberately said loudly, "Yeah, my dad's always valued daughters over sons. He is grooming me as his heir."
Vivian's face turned pale!
