Chapter 185 She Won't Be Kind Anymore
When Susanna heard about the grilled steak, her mind instantly flashed to the mouthwatering steak Madison used to make. Fighting off her discomfort, she quickly ordered takeout and then turned to Dick. "It's getting late. I should head back."
"Susanna, you're leaving already? Didn't you just order takeout? Let's eat together," Harper said.
"No thanks, Aunt Harper. I'll eat at home. Besides, I only ordered enough for one, so it won't be enough for both of us," Susanna replied, trying to keep her cool.
"Oh, I don't eat much. Come on, join me. There's still plenty of meat left from my son's meal, plus some grilled chicken wings and chicken soup you like. Let's finish these leftovers so I can make fresh food for Dick tomorrow. Patients shouldn't eat leftovers, right?" Harper suggested warmly, urging Susanna to stay.
Susanna would be a fool to believe Harper. She was almost starving just a moment ago. And now Harper wanted her to eat Dick's leftovers? No way!
Without another word, Susanna turned and left the ward. She must have been out of her mind to come here today! There definitely wouldn't be a next time. If it weren't for the fact that her brother had beaten up Dick, she wouldn't have spent the whole afternoon taking care of him and then put up with this nonsense in the evening!
After Susanna left, Dick frowned and said, "Mom, you went too far just now."
"Dick, you can talk? Why didn't you say anything earlier?" Harper asked.
"I was pretending for the police."
Actually, Dick was pretending for Susanna, hoping to soften her heart so he could make demands.
Harper quickly said, "Dick, well done. Susanna was so inconsiderate just now, wanting to drink the chicken soup. What if you didn't have enough to eat? I know you like Susanna, but you need to set the rules now. When she marries into the Johnson family, she should prioritize you. What's wrong with a woman eating leftovers? Isn't that how it should be?"
Dick frowned and said, "Don't do that next time. Make more food. Set the rules after Susanna and I are together to avoid any issues."
At least Susanna's brother wasn't someone to mess with. For now, he needed to win Susanna over and then deal with it.
"Dick, it's a long way home for me, and making more food isn't easy. If it's for three people, it takes a lot of time. Why not have Susanna cook and bring it over for us?" Harper suggested.
Dick hesitated. "She might not agree."
"I'll talk to her tomorrow. She'll agree. Then I can relax more, and she can take care of you. Don't worry, Dick, I know how to handle women," Harper said.
Dick thought about how he got beaten because of Susanna's brother. She wouldn't dare not take care of him! With that thought, Dick felt completely at ease. This time, he had to win Susanna over and get her brother to invest in his company. Otherwise, he would consider legal action against Susanna's brother.
'I have leverage over both Susanna and her brother now!' Dick thought smugly to himself.
Dick closed his eyes to rest, planning how to use Susanna. He would live in the house Susanna bought in full and have Harper move in too.
After leaving the hospital, Susanna ordered another baked tomato pasta at a nearby restaurant, feeling a bit better. She thought she should ask Daniel what to do if Dick wanted to sue Brian. If they wanted to settle, they would have to give Dick a large sum of money. After all, Harper was very difficult to deal with!
When she got home, she was so tired her eyelids were drooping. She looked at Madison and said, "I want to eat grilled steak and grilled chicken wings tomorrow."
"Alright, I'll buy fresh meat tomorrow and make it for you. I'll also invite Brian over for dinner," Madison replied.
Susanna thought of Brian hitting Dick. No wonder he was so quiet today; he must have felt guilty. She went to her room, quickly washed up, and got into bed. No matter who came knocking, she needed to rest.
The next morning, Susanna was woken up by a phone call. Still groggy, she answered.
"Susanna, get up quickly. Let's go to the market to buy groceries and make some good food for Dick. I'm getting old, and Dick will be your responsibility in the future. You should learn what he likes and dislikes," Harper said.
Hearing this, Susanna hung up immediately. It was only a little after five. Calling her this early to go to the market? To cook for Dick? She must be dreaming!
Susanna put her phone on silent. She couldn't take care of Dick, and with Daniel around, Brian would be fine. She turned over and went back to sleep.
This time, she slept until she woke up naturally, feeling alive again. Susanna checked her phone and saw several missed calls, all from Harper. It showed how persistent she was. Susanna just wanted to rest now. After all, she was pregnant and didn't have the energy to serve others.
When she walked out of her room, the aroma from the kitchen made her mouth water. "Madison, your cooking is the best."
"Where's Brian? Let him come over for dinner," Madison said.
Susanna called Brian, and a woman answered, "Hello."
Susanna was stunned. This voice was different from last time. Did Brian get a new girlfriend? Remembering the previous misunderstanding, she quickly said, "Sorry, I dialed the wrong number."
She hung up, thinking that if Brian had a woman with him, they must have spent the night together. She decided not to call Brian for dinner. She made up a work excuse to Madison, who believed her without suspicion.
Susanna ended up eating the grilled steak and delicious grilled chicken wings alone, eating until she was full and feeling completely satisfied.
"Susanna, your appetite has grown a lot recently. You've gained some weight. Girls shouldn't get too fat; it'll be hard to find a partner! Look at your belly; people might think you're a few months pregnant," Madison remarked.
Susanna paused and quickly laughed, "Oh, I am pregnant, with grilled chicken wings, grilled steak, and baked meatloaf."
Madison laughed heartily.
After finishing her meal, Susanna intended to rest, but her phone rang once more. It was Dick. She glanced at the phone and went to the balcony to answer. "Hello, Dick?"
"Susanna, you don't have to worry about my mom. She's just like that, and she's doing it for my sake."
Susanna replied coldly, "I understand, but please tell her not to call me anymore. I have no chance of becoming your wife, so she doesn't need to teach me how to be a good one."
"Susanna, what do you mean by that? Are you not coming to the hospital to take care of me anymore?"
