Chapter 536 The Same Trick Won't Work Twice
"But my grandparents are good people; they'd never let me go through something like this."
Susanna grinned and said, "If they care about you that much, you should find a way to protect them. Sometimes you gotta be a little sneaky. These folks love playing dirty, so it must work. We call it 'fighting fire with fire.'"
Amelia took a deep breath and said, "You're right."
Vivian, rocking a designer evening gown, strolled next to Owen, grabbing everyone's attention.
Being in the spotlight, like a celeb, made her super happy.
She immediately wore a smug look. This was her first time showing up publicly with Owen, and she knew people would start guessing who she was.
But soon enough, she could tell everyone who she really was.
She was also the President's daughter, and she wanted everyone who had ever looked down on her to eat their words.
Vivian spotted Susanna and Amelia, a triumphant glint in her eyes. She had finally made it.
She wasn't going to let anyone who had looked down on her get away with it.
The next moment, Amelia walked over to Owen. "Dad, you finally made it. I thought you wouldn't show up today."
"My daughter asked me to come; how could I not?" Owen's expression was a bit complicated. He hadn't planned on coming, but Vivian had convinced him.
Amelia pretended not to see Vivian and smiled, "Dad, don't you think today's design theme is beautiful? Mom's birthday is coming up, and I want to book this new theme for her. What do you think?"
"I think it's great. Your mother will definitely love it."
"But I didn't make a reservation. Dad, you know Mom doesn't like celebrating her birthday. I know you had a reservation at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel for a business event. Can I use it to celebrate Mom's birthday?"
"Sure, no problem." Owen didn't hesitate and agreed right away.
Ever since Vivian showed up, Amelia's relationship with him had been really strained. Now that Amelia was finally being close to him and asking to host a party, he wouldn't say no.
Vivian's face froze, and she quickly said, "Dad, didn't you promise to host a birthday party for Ramond at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel to introduce him to our relatives and friends?"
If he gave that reservation to Paige for her birthday party, what about Ramond?
Vivian knew how hard it was to book a party at the Velvet Sky Ballroom.
If they gave it up this time, Ramond's birthday party would have to wait a long time or might not happen there at all.
Hearing this, Amelia clenched her fist, pain spreading through her body.
She hadn't expected Vivian to compete with Paige for Ramond's sake!
Even though she wanted to lose it and cause a scene, she knew she couldn't do that now. After all, she wasn't Owen's only daughter anymore.
Now she had to play the obedient and sensible daughter to get back everything that belonged to her and Paige.
Owen looked a bit stunned and awkwardly said, "I've been so busy lately, I totally forgot."
Amelia looked at him and said, "Dad, you know Mom's health is getting worse. I want to throw a party to celebrate. We can invite Grandpa and Grandma, and have a nice family dinner together."
Owen nodded. "You're right. I'll see if we can arrange another one."
Vivian jumped in, "Dad, please ask for Amelia. The Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel should respect you enough to arrange another party."
Amelia's face changed instantly. How dare she talk like that?
Just then, someone came over to greet Owen, and he walked away to talk to them.
Amelia and Vivian stood there, the tension thick in the air.
Vivian adjusted her designer bag and smiled, "I know your mom's birthday is important, but I did talk to Dad first. Everything should go in order, right?"
Ramond's first public appearance with Owen had to be at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel.
That would show how important Ramond was to Owen and make people take her and Ramond seriously.
Amelia sneered, "If we're talking about order, you shouldn't be here at all."
"You're mistaken. I'm older than you. If we're talking about order, my mom and I come first, and you and your mom come second."
Amelia sneered, "You mon is just a mistress. How dare youtalk about order?"
Vivian's expression changed instantly. "Let me make it clear, this party is for Ramond. Your mom shouldn't even think about it. You know how much Dad wants a son. Your mom has been sick for so many years; she can wait another year for a party. Are you afraid she won't live long?"
Amelia was furious. "Vivian, say that again if you dare."
"What? Did I say anything wrong?"
Just as Amelia was about to lose it, Susanna stepped in and grabbed her arm, "What are you talking about? This drink is pretty good; have some."
Susanna handed a cocktail to Amelia, reminding her not to act impulsively.
With so many people around and Owen's love for appearances, if Amelia lost her temper here, Vivian would have more reason to make a scene.
Amelia took the cocktail, downing it in one gulp, and forced herself to swallow her anger.
Vivian's eyes flashed with disappointment. She had hoped to provoke Amelia into making a scene, but someone had stopped her.
Vivian sneered and walked towards Owen. After all, Owen was her current support.
After she left, Amelia wanted to smash the glass in her hand.
She said, "Susanna, you heard what that bitch said. I want to host a party for my mom, and she wants to take it away. And my dad's attitude was so ambiguous, saying he would talk to the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel. Who doesn't know how hard it is to book there."
At this point, Amelia didn't continue.
