Chapter 48 The Only Thing I Can't Do is This
Austin furrowed his brow, looked at the bedroom, and then walked out onto the balcony to take the call.
He began, "If it's about the Abbotts again, you don't need to make this call."
Erica was very anxious, "I really like Aaron, I want to marry him in this lifetime."
"But that man has a wife, do you want to be his mistress?"
"Austin, haven't I told you, he will divorce that woman. He only married her because he had no other choice, he doesn't like her at all. Besides, that woman comes from a poor family, she doesn't match Aaron at all, they are not from the same world."
Austin furrowed his brow, "Did you forget that you were also adopted from the orphanage by us?"
Upon hearing this, Erica's face instantly went pale, then she replied, "But I'm different from that woman, I am now a daughter of the Jones. You have been good to me all these years, and I have always been obedient, I only ask for this one thing."
Austin rubbed his temples, "Anything else is fine, except for this. It's best if you keep your distance from the Abbotts."
Susanna's experience working as a nursemaid at the Abbotts is something he absolutely cannot tolerate.
If Erica really marries into the Abbotts, then the Abbotts and the Jones will have frequent interactions, and the people from the Abbotts will definitely gossip about Susanna. He will not allow such a thing to happen.
In the past, when Susanna was forced to work as a maid on her own, he as Edward couldn't do anything. But now, he will definitely protect Susanna from any harm.
Besides, what's so good about a man who's been married twice?
After Austin finished speaking, he didn't give Erica a chance to speak and hung up the phone directly.
On the other end of the line, Erica's face turned red with anger.
Especially when hearing Austin say that she was also adopted from the orphanage, implying that her background is just as ordinary as that woman Susanna!
Erica was so angry that she smashed everything in the room before calming down, her eyes cold, "I am nothing like that woman Susanna."
Even if she was adopted, she is still a part of the Jones.
Susanna was just a woman from a poor neighborhood!
The assistant by her side cautiously said, "Miss, what if Austin doesn't agree? How do you explain it to Aaron? What if he finds out that Austin never agreed..."
"Aaron won't find out."
Erica said unwillingly, "I will find a way to make Austin agree. If that doesn't work, I'll have Grandma step in. He will definitely agree then."
But Grandma was her last resort, and she didn't usually use it lightly, for fear that her brothers would see through her manipulation. It would ruin the image she had worked so hard to build over the years, which wouldn't be worth it.
The next second, Erica's phone rang.
The assistant glanced at it, "It's Mrs. Abbott's call."
Erica quickly answered, her tone gentle and amiable, "Mrs. Abbott."
"Erica, when are you free? I've made appointments with several wedding planning studios. Take a look at the styles you like. When you get engaged to my son, make sure to wear the most beautiful wedding dress."
"Okay. I'll come over later."
Erica hung up the phone, her eyes filled with unwillingness. She had chosen this path and was determined to stay on it, even if she had to kneel.
After all, Austin would definitely agree to the surgery in the end, so it wouldn't be considered a lie!
On Susanna's side, she received a notice from the school that it was time to start classes. She packed up her things and prepared to move.
Allison sneered, "You're already the top scorer now. So many companies are offering you olive branches. Why waste time going back to school? By the time you graduate, you probably won't be able to find such a good job. When our company grows bigger, you won't have such a good position if you come back."
Susanna remained calm, "This is my own choice. Thank you for your concern."
"Who cares about you."
Allison turned around and saw the young lady walking in from outside. She immediately greeted her with a smile, "Miss Abbott, you're finally here. The design drawings are all done for you."
Elaine, carrying her Hermès bag, walked in arrogantly in her designer clothes. She looked straight at Susanna and sneered, "Have you been fired?"
Susanna ignored Elaine.
Allison quickly said, "She's planning to go back to school and continue her studies. She took a two-year leave of absence before, remember?"
Elaine knew about this. It was Maud who forced Susanna to take a break from school so she could take care of the family and have a child.
Elaine played with her newly done nails, " But for a woman like Susanna with your background, even if you graduate from college, you can only work as a laborer. Why bother wasting two years studying? It's better to start working early and earn more money."
Susanna put down the documents on her phone and looked at Elaine. "Are you suggesting that I should be useless like you?"
Elaine angrily responded, "What do you mean?"
"Literally, if you can't understand, maybe you should go back and read some elementary school books. After all, even elementary school students can understand. If you can't understand, perhaps you should reflect on yourself?" said Susanna.
Elaine didn't quite understand until after Susanna left. She looked at Allison and asked, "Was she insulting me?"
Allison looked a bit embarrassed and could only nod. "Yes."
Not long after Susanna finished packing and left, she received a call from Dick. "You packed up so quickly? Aren't you planning to come back?"
"No, I'm just getting ready in advance for the beginning of school exams."
"Okay, then I can rest assured. Remember to come back and check in on the weekend. I found a student to organize some exam materials for you. I'll send them to your email."
"Okay, thank you."
After hanging up the phone, Susanna started preparing for the beginning of school exams.
After all, she had taken a two-year leave of absence and hadn't even finished her previous exams. This time, she would take the exams with the students starting school. She had to pass in order to continue her studies. If she didn't pass, she wouldn't be able to continue her education.
She stayed at home preparing to study and prepare for the exams.
In the afternoon, she suddenly received a call from the Abbotts Mansion. "Madam, it's bad. Grandma Abbott has fainted."
After receiving the call, Susanna's mind went blank. She didn't have time to ask anything and immediately grabbed her bag and rushed to the hospital.
Susanna prayed all the way that Grandma Abbott would be okay.
When she arrived at the private hospital, there were already many people there.
Susanna saw Aaron standing in the front, his silhouette dark and lonely.
She knew how important Grandma Abbott was to him.
Elaine coldly snorted and asked, "Susanna, what are you doing here?"
As soon as she spoke, everyone looked over, except him.
Susanna walked over confidently. "Grandma Abbott was always kind to me before. Now that she's sick, it's only right for me to come and visit."
She ignored the stares of these people and stood by Aaron's side. "Why did Grandma pass out?"
