Chapter 67 A Game Played by the Wealthy
Erica tightly held onto her phone, barely managing to control herself from smashing it.
Her assistant spoke up. "I checked with the hospital. Mr. Jones isn't on duty tonight."
"If Austin isn't on duty tonight, then why won't he answer the phone? Does he really not even want to have a meal with me?" Erica grew increasingly impatient. Initially, she didn't think Austin would reject her invitation, so she had purposely arranged this dinner to set the stage for what would come after.
But Erica never expected Austin wouldn't show up tonight!
Erica glanced over at the private room. Aaron and Maud had already arrived and were waiting for Austin. If Austin didn't come today, she didn't know what she would do.
She looked coldly at her assistant. "Did you find out if there were any conflicts between Austin and Aaron?"
The assistant shrunk his neck and replied discreetly. "I haven't found out yet."
Erica slapped the assistant in anger. "You're truly useless. If your incompetence ruins my plan, I'll fire all of you."
After venting her anger at the assistant, Erica felt much better. She adjusted her expression and took a deep breath before walking towards the private room. "Let's eat first," she said.
Maud spoke up. "This won't be polite. Let's wait for your brother and eat together. After all, this is our first meeting. It would be impolite otherwise."
Aaron looked at Erica expressionlessly and spoke coldly, "How long before he will arrive?"
If it weren't for Erica's brother coming today, Aaron wouldn't even be here for the meal.
Erica reluctantly spoke up. "Austin was planning to come, but you know he's busy at the hospital. He had to attend to an emergency patient just now, so he couldn't make it in time. Austin can't abandon his patient as a doctor."
There was scrutiny in Aaron's cold gaze.
Maud quickly agreed, "Miss Jones is right. After all, he's a famous doctor. He must be busy. If he doesn't have time today, we'll make another appointment."
Erica breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, I'll arrange another meeting."
"Miss Jones, these are all minor matters. As long as he agrees to perform the surgery, Aaron won't mind these things." Maud said.
Erica lowered her eyelids and calmly replied, "Austin has already agreed. It's just that because of what happened three years ago, Austin has some reservations about Aaron, so he hasn't been willing to come."
Maud sighed. "There's nothing we can do to change what happened three years ago, but thankfully Aaron has divorced Susanna. Everything will return to normal."
A glimmer of light flashed in Erica's eyes, and a hint of a smile curled up her lips.
Aaron put down his utensils. "Since he can't come, I'll leave first."
"Where are you going? It wouldn't hurt to finish eating first." Maud said.
Erica stood up and hurriedly chased after him. "Aaron."
Aaron didn't turn back and quickly left the restaurant.
Erica stood frozen in place, her gaze icy. She wouldn't give up so easily.

After a few days of rest, Susanna finally fully recovered from her cold.
Justin especially got two tickets for an auction. "Susanna, are you interested in a charity auction?"
Susanna had heard about charity auctions before and glanced at the tickets. "Isn't this an event for rich people?"
"This is a ticket for that celebrity, but he doesn't want to go himself, so he asked me to go in his place and help auction off a few items for donations. Susanna, would you like to come and have a look?" Justin explained.
"Okay." Susanna agreed.
Susanna had never been to an auction before, but she nodded and agreed to accompany Justin.
After seeing Susanna's agreement, Justin sent a message in the family group chat.
Justin: [Dudes, Susanna agreed to go to the auction with me. Can you sponsor us with some funds?]
Five people in the group chat transferred money, all of which were funds for Susanna to participate in the charity auction.
Justin happily accepted the money and replied.
Justin: [Thanks for your support.]
Lawyer Daniel added the following sentence.
Daniel: [Misappropriation of funds is prohibited, or you will receive a lawyer's letter.]
Justin replied with a crying emoji. He ensured that he would never do such a thing.
In the evening, Susanna followed Justin to the charity auction venue.
Susanna saw luxury cars parked outside. Indeed, people without money couldn't attend this kind of event.
"Susanna, buy whatever you like," Justin said.
Susanna blinked, and she asked, "Justin, weren't we here to buy things for the movie celebrity?"
"Anyway, we're spending the movie celebrity's money, and he never cares about these expenses," Justin said.
"That doesn't seem right," Susanna said. She felt it was unethical to spend someone else's money so casually, and she didn't want to do that.
While they were talking, they walked into the banquet hall. Justin handed her a number card and said, "I need to go to the restroom. Susanna, find your seat according to the number on the ticket."
Susanna nodded. As she was finding her seat according to the number, she smelled a strong fragrance. She frowned and looked up to see Elaine and Erica standing next to each other.
Susanna put down her hand covering her nose. What a coincidence!
"Susanna, what are you doing here?" Elaine walked over, unable to hide her disbelief, and looked her up and down. "Do you even know where this is?"
"I know. It's a charity auction." Susanna replied.
Elaine purposely showed off her designer bag, and she teased, "Since you know, you still dared to come. Everything here costs over two hundred thousand dollars. You won't even earn that much money in ten years. How dare you come here! Who gave you the courage?"
Susanna remained calm. "Regardless, it has nothing to do with you."
Erica came over. "Elaine, don't say that. After all, it's good to broaden her horizons by coming here."
"Yes. Poor people can never afford to come to such high-end occasions in their lifetime. Susanna, I warn you, Erica is getting engaged to Aaron this weekend. You need to hurry up and finish renovating the new house so as not to delay the wedding date." Elaine said.
Erica's lips curved slightly, a hint of pride in her eyes.
Susanna remained calm. "I'm not in charge of decorating that house. You should talk to the person responsible for it."
"Susanna. Watch your attitude!" Elaine couldn't stand Susanna's expression.
At that moment, Erica purposely said loudly, "Aaron!"
Susanna looked up and saw Aaron walking into the auction venue. He was wearing a linen-colored suit with a dark gray tie, the light-colored suit Susanna had personally picked out in the past.
Before, Aaron liked to wear dark clothes, and she picked out many light-colored suits, but he had never worn them even once.
With this light-colored suit, Aaron appeared much younger. It turns out that good-looking men look handsome in anything.
However, Susanna wondered why Aaron had never worn those light-colored clothes before but was wearing them now.
