Chapter 484 Which Mental Hospital Did You Escape From?
Susanna didn't answer Betsy right away.
She helped the nurse up, asking, "You good?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
The nurse shook her head, keeping her cool.
But Susanna saw the nurse's face swelling up fast. Betsy had really clocked her.
She didn't think Betsy would hit that hard.
Susanna turned to the staff nearby, "Get her to the medical room for a cold compress. Can't have a pretty face like that getting messed up."
Betsy, getting impatient, snapped, "Hey, I'm talking to you! Are you deaf? Do I not exist? Why do you care about this chick? Who cares if she gets messed up? She just uses that face to snag guys anyway."
Susanna faced Betsy, "I've been meaning to ask you something."
Betsy, all smug, "Oh, you're curious about me, huh? Go ahead, ask away."
"Did you forget to brush your teeth this morning? Your breath is rank."
Betsy's face twisted in anger. "How dare you talk to me like that! You're asking for it."
She raised her hand to hit Susanna, just like she did with the nurse. But Susanna wasn't having it.
Susanna grabbed Betsy's wrist. "You think you can just hit and insult people here?"
"I'm your boss's fiancée, the lady of this place. Are you jealous 'cause I can take that spot? I'm telling you, I won't let this slide."
Susanna didn't back down. She let go of Betsy's hand. "Come back and show off when you actually become the lady of this place. Right now, you're just a stranger, and you can't waltz into the research institute."
Betsy was fuming. "Who do you think you are to stop me? Didn't you see what happened to the security outside? You think I won't have you stripped and hung at the gate?"
Betsy always got what she wanted and had never been talked to like this.
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "I'm curious where you came from. You didn't even check what this place is before barging in with your goons."
Betsy lifted her chin, all proud. "You don't deserve to know who I am. Compared to me, you commoners are nothing. I don't need to explain myself, and I'm here on the down-low."
"Really? You sound like a princess who snuck out of a palace. Or maybe you escaped from a mental hospital?"
"What nonsense! I'm from Emerald Island."
"Emerald Island?"
Hearing this, Susanna gave Betsy a serious look. She didn't expect her to be from Emerald Island.
Back in the day, Philadelphia and Lindwell were one country. But after the feudal system fell apart, they split into Philadelphia and Lindwell.
The nobles back then moved to an island, now called Emerald Island, and all changed their last name to Gray.
Over the years, Emerald Island's status got pretty complicated. It wasn't a country, but it didn't belong to Philadelphia or Lindwell either.
So, Emerald Island was kinda special.
Betsy raised an eyebrow. "What, my identity got you shook?"
Susanna nodded. "A bit. But with that severe princess syndrome, it's no shock you're from there."
"You're the one with issues! I know you're just jealous of my noble blood from Emerald Island. You commoners aren't even in the same league as me. I get why you mock me."
Susanna was floored by her words.
"Move it!"
Betsy shoved Susanna and snapped, "Now that you know who I am, don't block my way. Or I'll deal with you too. I want to see Michael now. Tell him to come out, or I'll blow up this place."
Susanna was pushed hard and lost her balance, falling to the ground.
Just then, a figure rushed in and caught her.
They both hit the ground, but Susanna was fine, her head cushioned by those big hands.
She smelled a familiar scent and looked up, surprised. "What are you doing here?"
She didn't expect Aaron to be the one who saved her.
What was he doing here?
Had he followed her to the research institute?
Susanna had a bad feeling. Seeing Aaron frown, he said, "And if not? Who did you expect to save you?"
Aaron's tone was sour.
Did she think Michael would rush in and save her?
Susanna quietly sat up from his arms and noticed Aaron seemed a bit awkward. His left hand looked hurt.
After all, when she fell, Aaron had rushed in to protect her, taking all the impact himself.
Susanna reached for his left hand. "Where does it hurt?"
Aaron winced and said, "You trying to cripple my hand?"
"Don't say that. Let me see if it's bad. If not, I can fix it right away."
"No need, it's not serious."
Aaron said, pulling his hand back, looking all sullen.
Susanna looked at the stubborn and prideful Aaron beside her and didn't push it.
When she touched Aaron's hand earlier, it didn't seem broken, just bruised or sprained.
The next second, Betsy clapped her hands and said, "Another guy rushing to his doom. Playing hero isn't for everyone. You might get yourself killed."
