Chapter 186 Scheming Men Had No Limits
Susanna laughed in anger after hearing Dick's self-righteous words. 'These two are really alike, both thick-skinned,' she thought. Since they had this attitude, there was nothing more to discuss.
Susanna responded bluntly, "Dick, I have no obligation to take care of you. I already did more than enough by coming yesterday."
"Susanna, if it weren't for your brother having someone beat me up like this, why would I be in the hospital? I'm keeping quiet about who did it for your sake. I've done so much for you; can't you show a little understanding?"
After Dick finished speaking, Harper's scream came through the phone. "What? Dick, you said it was Susanna's brother who beat you up? Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Soon, Harper took the phone. "Susanna, come to the hospital right now. I need to get to the bottom of this, or I'll call the police and have them arrest your brother."
"Whatever you do," Susanna replied indifferently, hanging up. Even though she was a little concerned, Daniel had reassured her yesterday, so everything should be okay.
Even though she didn't hit Dick, Brian did, and that should suffice. They're like family, and Daniel wouldn't just sit back and do nothing. With that thought, Susanna stopped worrying and went to school in the afternoon. She needed to focus on her studies to pass the upcoming exams in one go.
Her phone rang many times, but she didn't answer. She had finally seen Dick's true colors. Now that he was using her brother's actions to threaten her, who knows what he might demand in the future.
In that case, she might as well let Dick call the police. She believed that even though her brother did it, he wouldn't leave any evidence easily. They might not be able to prove it was her brother. Plus, with Daniel being a lawyer, there should be no problem.
Susanna went to the restroom and saw dozens of missed calls and messages from Harper. Without looking at them, she opened WhatsApp. She saw several messages from Dick but didn't read them. Instead, a news notification popped up: #Genius Singer's New Relationship Revealed, Rumored to be With a Wealthy Man.]
Seeing the photo of the genius singer, she suddenly recognized she was the woman who rear-ended Austin's car that night. Susanna thought there might be something between her and Austin, but it seemed she was overthinking.
She instinctively clicked on the link and saw the singer in a beautiful little black dress, looking very elegant. However, the man next to her was only photographed from the back. Susanna recognized the familiar back and zoomed in on the picture. She noticed the buttons on the suit and confirmed that the man was Aaron. Given that she had personally selected and sewn those buttons, she couldn't have been mistaken.
As she looked at the photo, a self-mocking smile crept onto her face, and her emotions became tumultuous. First, it was Erica, and now a famous singer. The women around Aaron were indeed all of high status, a perfect match. Although Susanna had decided to forget Aaron and not be infatuated with him anymore, seeing him with another woman still caused a pang of pain in her heart.
A trace of bitterness flashed in Susanna's eyes. She touched her belly and said, "Baby, it's just you and me now. We don't need Daddy." She remembered Aaron mocking her on the phone yesterday, but what about him?
Unable to contain her anger, Susanna sent the photo to Aaron: [How dare you criticize me?]
After typing the message, she felt it was too wordy and not forceful enough. Finally, she mimicked Aaron's usual tone and rephrased it: [Eh!]
She felt this word was full of sarcasm! Short and sharp.
After sending it, Susanna put her phone aside and started reading. However, she couldn't concentrate and kept glancing at her phone, wondering how Aaron would react. But there seemed to be no response.
After a while, her phone screen lit up with a WhatsApp notification. Susanna pretended to be calm for a moment before picking up her phone, only to find it wasn't a reply from Aaron but from Dick!
Dick: [Susanna, I have a recording of you admitting in the hospital that it was your brother who did all this.]
Seeing this, Susanna recalled indeed saying that. She frowned and immediately called Dick, "What do you want?"
Dick replied, "Come to the hospital, and we'll talk."
Susanna refused, "I don't think there's anything to talk about."
Dick added, "Susanna, if you don't come, I'll have to give this recording to the police. You don't want your brother to go to jail, do you?"
After Dick finished speaking, Harper's sharp voice came through. "Susanna, if you don't come to the hospital today, I'll go to your school and find you. No one will have a good time then."
Despite her frown, Susanna acquiesced and proceeded to the hospital, where she packed her belongings and hailed a cab to reach the medical facility. She had a good idea of what Dick wanted, probably to use the recording to achieve some goal. But she was mentally prepared; at worst, she would call the police.
Susanna walked into the hospital ward and saw Dick and Harper. She said coldly, "What do you want to talk about?"
Harper's expression was unfriendly. "What kind of attitude is that? If it weren't for your brother, would my son be like this? If my son didn't like you, I wouldn't have agreed to you being together, considering you're a divorced woman."
Susanna showed a mocking expression. "Aunt Harper, I've never liked your son, nor have I agreed to his pursuit. The idea of me marrying into your family is far-fetched." Since they were tearing off the facade, there was no need to be polite.
Harper's fingers trembled with anger, uttering, "If you know that, why do you keep clinging to Epic Horizon?"
"Aunt Harper, 'clinging' is not the right word. Your son invited me to work at Epic Horizon, and when I considered resigning, he urged me to stay multiple times. You can confirm this with Dick."
Susanna didn't want to argue with this middle-aged woman and directly turned to Dick. But Dick's eyes flickered. "Susanna, I thought you accepted my invitation to Epic Horizon because you had feelings for me. Otherwise, why would you turn down offers from so many big companies to come to Epic Horizon?"
Susanna felt utterly disgusted. She thought Dick's threat was already despicable, but this was a new low.
Susanna asked directly, "Where is the recording? What are your intentions with it?"
