Chapter 248 Celebrating Susanna's Return to Singlehood
Susanna stared at him for a moment but couldn't hold back. "What did you..."
Before she could finish, Aaron turned and headed to the inner hall. "No time," he said.
She watched his tall, slender figure retreat, lowering her eyes to hide the fleeting sarcasm. What had she hoped for? That Aaron would take her back? Regret the divorce?
Now that Maria knew and agreed to the divorce, Aaron had no reason to hold on. Susanna mocked herself, then composed her expression and followed him into the office hall.
In just over ten minutes, they got their divorce certificates. A hint of irony flashed in Susanna's eyes; this was the result of three years.
'Well, it's over now,' she sighed silently.
She slipped the marriage and divorce certificates into her bag, trying to read Aaron’s expression, but he walked briskly, making it hard to see his face.
They exited the Family Court one after the other. A man in a suit approached Aaron with a stack of documents. "Susanna, right? I'm Mrs. Maria Abbott's attorney. Here are the property division documents. Please review and sign them."
Susanna glanced at the documents. "I don't want to sign."
"Susanna, if you don't, I can't report back!"
In the end, she signed her name and took the documents. "I'll get Aaron to sign. You can go now."
The lawyer glanced at Aaron, noticing his cold expression and clear displeasure. Deciding it wasn’t the best time to approach him, the lawyer nodded and said, "Thank you."
As the lawyer left, Susanna caught up with Aaron. "Wait a minute."
Aaron stopped in front of a luxury car, but a pretty girl beat Susanna to him, holding out her phone. "Sir, can I add you on WhatsApp?"
Aaron looked down, his tone cold. "I just got divorced."
"I know, congrats on being single again. How about dinner tonight to celebrate?" the girl said, glancing provocatively at Susanna.
Susanna stood there holding the documents, feeling awkward. This was Aaron’s charm: handsome, driving a luxury car, and effortlessly attracting attention.
Aaron glanced at Susanna, his tone calm. "But I gave all my assets to my ex-wife. All I have left are debts, and this car will soon be sold to pay them off."
The girl looked embarrassed. "Sorry to bother you."
Susanna watched the girl walk away, feeling amused. Are girls this bold nowadays?
She looked up, met Aaron's gaze, and waved the documents. "I signed them, but you don't have to. It's just to fool Grandma."
Aaron stood still. "I can still afford this much."
"But it's not about the money." Before Susanna could finish, a car horn blared. She turned to see Austin's car parked by the curb. Placing the documents on the car hood, she walked away without another word.
Since the divorce was finalized, there was nothing left to say.
Seeing Austin get out of the car, Susanna smiled and waved, running towards her brother. "Austin!"
"Did you finally get it done this time? No issues?" Austin asked, concerned.
"Nope, it went smoothly."
Susanna pulled out her divorce certificate. "See, wouldn't that make it easier to check in on Edward's end?"
"Definitely. Good thing Aaron was reasonable. Come on, get in the car. Let's go celebrate with a nice meal." Austin ruffled Susanna's hair affectionately, holding the divorce certificate, and shot Aaron a hostile look.
Aaron leaned against his car door, looking grim. Watching Susanna run happily to Austin, her bright smile reflecting newfound freedom, made him feel awful, like he had lost something important.
He could only watch as Susanna got into Austin's car and drove away. Frustration building, Aaron yanked off his tie, unbuttoned a few buttons, and called Sam. "Are you free? Let's go for a drink!"
The divorce certificate beside him felt like a glaring reminder.
Susanna went to a restaurant with Austin and the others.
Madison was surprised. "Why are we eating out today?"
Austin smiled. "It's a good day, and we're leaving soon. Let's enjoy dining out a few more times before we go."
Daniel was in a good mood too. "Yeah, today is definitely worth celebrating."
After all, Susanna had finally divorced Aaron.
Soon, Edward and Aviana arrived, and the whole family had a meal together.
After dinner, they went home. Susanna washed up and lay on her bed, feeling very relaxed, with no worries. She touched her belly, murmuring, "Babies, I'm taking you home."
A few days later, it was the weekend of the graduation ceremony dinner.
Susanna was a bit nervous. The counselor had informed her she was selected as an outstanding graduate and would go on stage to receive an award.
The ceremony was held in the auditorium, the only place big enough for everyone. The setup was mostly the same as for previous events, with a few minor changes.
Seeing the auditorium she had decorated, Susanna felt a sense of accomplishment.
She arrived at the school early to confirm the setup, not wanting any issues during the graduation.
Since many entrepreneurs were invited to the charity auction, private rooms were prepared for the VIPs.
After checking the auditorium, Susanna went upstairs to the restrooms. There, she ran into Erica and Elaine, who had also arrived early.
Susanna's gaze fell on Erica's dress, which looked oddly familiar. Erica snapped, "What are you staring at? Never seen a limited edition dress before?"
