Chapter 517 You Sure Are Lucky to Be Alive

Susanna was dying to know what Aaron really thought about Vivian.

Vivian's biggest ace right now was being Owen's illegitimate daughter. If she managed to get on Owen's good side, she'd be a real pain to deal with.

Best to get rid of her now.

Aaron got serious. "Yeah, I'm planning to work with Owen, but it's got nothing to do with Vivian."

Susanna scoffed, "How can you say that? It's clear she used Owen to get out of Lindwell Prison."

"I know."

"So why are you doing this?"

"I teamed up with Owen to stay in Philly. It's the only way I could see you."

Aaron looked deep into Susanna's eyes, "Your brothers are too powerful in Philly. If I didn't find someone to back me up, I wouldn't stand a chance, let alone get close to you."

Susanna puffed up with pride, "Of course they are. After what you pulled, they wanted you dead."

"Edward already sent hitmen after me."

"What?" Susanna was shocked. She didn't think Edward would actually go that far. Did he really want Aaron dead?

She knew Edward was capable of it; he'd talked about it with her other brothers more than once. But since Aaron had been in Lindwell, they hadn't succeeded.

Aaron probably didn't know that her brothers had sent hitmen after him multiple times.

Susanna quickly composed herself. "That's because you never left Philly. Didn't they beat you up enough at the airport to get the message? Philly isn't your place."

She really hadn't expected Edward to send hitmen again.

Aaron stayed serious. "Even so, I can't leave."

"But if you stay, you might die."

"Even if it kills me, I'm not leaving."

Susanna froze. She stepped out of the elevator, the wind outside clearing her head a bit.

Aaron was right behind her, catching up quickly.

Walking beside her, Aaron said, "Susanna, I know I messed up before, so they hate me. But I'll spend my whole life making it up to you, proving I'm the right guy for you."

Susanna stopped, "What makes you so sure you're the right guy for me?"

She didn't even know who the right guy for her was.

Aaron's eyes were intense. "My sincerity."

"Mr. Abbott, do you know how many guys have said that in the past five years? They did way more to make me happy and win me over, way more romantic than you."

"I might not be as romantic, but I'd give you my life."

Susanna paused, "How much is your life worth? I don't care at all."

With that, she turned and kept walking.

Aaron quickly caught up, sounding a bit desperate, "Look, you and the kids mean everything to me. Those other guys? They only care about your status, not you or the kids."

Susanna bit her lip, trying to hide her anger. He was right, but she wasn't about to admit it.

She shot back, "That's none of your business. And what about the women around you, like Vivian? Are they sincere? Aren't they just after your status? When you were my bodyguard, did they care about you?"

"At least they liked my looks."

"You seem pretty proud of that."

Aaron sighed, "Too bad you didn't."

Seeing Aaron's defeated look made Susanna even angrier. Without his usual CEO swagger, he looked like a sad, abandoned puppy.

But back then, a big part of why she liked Aaron was because of his looks.

Susanna turned away, "I see plenty of handsome guys now. The men chasing me are all good-looking, very handsome, all types."

Aaron felt a pang of jealousy. "Those guys are just pretty faces. They're not as rich as I am."

"I don't need money. I need a man who makes me happy, listens to me, and understands romance."

Aaron's throat tightened, "Isn't that me?"

Susanna smirked, "Mr. Abbott, you don't know how to make me happy, you're not obedient, and you don't get romance. You don't even know how to please a girl."

Despite being surrounded by women, Aaron had no clue how to please the one he wanted.

He wasn't the type to do those things.

Aaron said, "How do you know if you don't give me a chance?"

Susanna spotted a woman selling balloons and got an idea. "I want the biggest balloon."

Aaron grinned and ran over.

Watching him, Susanna started to regret it. Did she just fall into a trap? Why did she give him a chance?

Aaron reached the balloon seller, but a little girl had already bought the biggest one.

Aaron looked at the girl, "I'll give you a thousand dollars for that balloon."

The girl clutched the balloon tightly, "No!"

Susanna watched, amused, curious to see what Aaron would do.

Aaron squatted down, "This thousand dollars can buy all the balloons here. Are you sure you don't want it?"

"No, I just want this one."

In a child's world, money didn't matter. She had saved up her allowance for this balloon.

Susanna called out, "Mr. Abbott, let it go. Don't make it hard for the kid. Looks like it's not meant to be. I should go."

"Wait."

Aaron squatted back down, "What will it take for you to give me the balloon?"

He had to get this balloon today. Otherwise, he'd lose the chance Susanna had given him.
