Chapter 332 Beyond Her Expectations
Susanna was floored by the bombshell, her voice shaky, "What are you talking about?"
Memories of Aaron saying she looked like his ex-wife came rushing back, but she had brushed it off as a fluke.
"Ms. Ramirez, I think you got the wrong gal. Could Aaron be your ex?" Sam threw out there.
"No way!" Susanna shot back, shutting that idea down fast.
She had definitely heard Edward mention Sam's name; Sam was her ex, and Edward wouldn't lie to her.
But she just thought Aaron was making up an excuse about his ex-wife looking like her, and she never bought it.
Susanna eyed Sam warily. "I don't buy it unless you got pics to back it up."
She had just done a quick online search but found zilch on Mrs. Abbott, not even a hint. The whole thing was fishy.
"Hang on, lemme find some pics for you," Sam said, all eager.
He whipped out his phone, ready to show Susanna some snaps. But as he scrolled to the end of his album, it hit him—he didn't have a single pic of Susanna. Awkward city.
Four years ago, for some reason, Susanna had tied the knot with Aaron. But since the Abbott family never accepted her, she and Sam drifted apart. So, no pics of Susanna on his phone.
Susanna peered over. "What's the deal, no pics?"
Sam, looking sheepish, said, "I just upgraded my phone, so all my old pics are gone."
"Didn't you ever post any on social media? Not even one group shot?" Susanna pressed.
Sam was stumped. Nope, no group shots!
Aaron and Susanna had kept their marriage on the down-low, never going public, let alone snapping group pics.
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "What about wedding pics? There’s gotta be some, right?"
Sam, at a loss, said, "Nope, none of those either."
"What? No wedding pics? Did they even get married?" Susanna felt like this was turning into a soap opera.
Sam, sweating bullets, nervously said, "They did get married, but for some reason, no wedding pics."
"Maybe Mrs. Abbott came from a regular background and the Abbott family didn't accept her, so no wedding pics? Not low-key, more like they thought her background was a no-go, so no public pics, right?"
Susanna's sharp words left Sam speechless. He could only stammer, "If you're still mad about what happened back then, actually..."
"Stop!" Susanna felt like Sam was looking at her like she was Aaron's ex-wife playing dumb.
She shot him a look of disgust and said, "You don't think I'm Mr. Abbott's ex-wife pretending not to know you, do you?"
After she said that, she saw Sam nod seriously.
Susanna was speechless. "Look, there are people who look alike. But I'm not the Mrs. Abbott who got treated like crap. If I were, I swear I wouldn't let the Abbott family off the hook!"
Sam paused, realizing she might actually have the guts to pull it off. He had to admit, Nova might look like Susanna, but she was nothing like her. Their vibes were totally different!
Susanna had had enough and turned to leave, not wanting to drag out this pointless convo.
"Wait, Ms. Ramirez," Sam blurted out. "I don't have pics on my phone, but I can get them soon. Just hang tight."
"Sorry, I'm over it." Susanna suddenly didn't care about this Mrs. Abbott who looked like her and felt a bit weirded out!
She walked over to Lillian and bounced from the amusement park.
Sam watched Nova and Lillian leave and sighed, "What the heck is going on!"
At such a crucial moment, no pics of Susanna on his phone!
Sam couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off about Nova. He didn't even know her, but she claimed he was Lillian's dad! She must had him mixed up with someone else.
Meanwhile, Susanna took Lillian back to the hotel, feeling all kinds of confused.
Lillian looked up at her. "Mommy, how'd it go with Sam?"
Susanna asked, puzzled, "Lillian, do you think we might've got the wrong guy?"
"Mommy, didn't Uncle Edward tell you who Daddy is? Would Uncle Edward lie?"
"I don't know what's up."
"Mommy, why are you asking this now?"
Susanna patted Lillian's head. "Because I just found out something. Mr. Abbott had an ex-wife."
Lillian's eyes went wide. "Uncle Aaron was married?"
If Aaron was married, then she wouldn't have a daddy. But didn't Susanna say Aaron was single?
Susanna went on, "But that ex-wife seems to have passed away. And get this, Lillian, she looked a lot like me!"
Lillian's jaw dropped. "Isn't that like something out of a TV show?"
Susanna chuckled. "Yeah, I thought it was nuts too, but Sam said the same thing. They wouldn't both lie to me," she said with a smirk.
'So, Aaron's ex-wife really looked like me. Is this just some crazy coincidence? Sam said I had him mixed up with someone else. If that's true, could Aaron actually be my ex-husband?' Susanna wondered.
She looked down at Lillian's hopeful eyes, not wanting to spill the beans. She knew how much Lillian adored Aaron.
Telling Lillian that Aaron was the one who bailed on them would break her heart. Until she got to the bottom of this, she wasn't saying a word.
Lillian's face got serious. "Mommy, does that mean you were just a stand-in?"
Susanna looked at Lillian, dead serious. "Would I be anyone's stand-in? I've always had guys chasing me, never the other way around."
The fact that she looked like Aaron's ex-wife was a total curveball.
When Lillian was napping, Susanna lay there, her mind racing. Unable to sleep, she absentmindedly opened her phone's photo album and stumbled upon a pic of Charles and Lillian together.
A soft smile crept onto her face, but as she stared at Charles's features, a light bulb went off.
No wonder Aaron seemed familiar at first! They really did look a bit alike.
