Chapter 558 So Men Got Jealous Too
Lillian was always such a good kid, super obedient. Whatever Charles said, she just went with it. Yeah, she really said that. But deep down, she had this weird feeling she couldn't shake.
When Aaron got that WhatsApp message and heard Lillian's voice, his heart just melted. So, they were having dinner. Hearing that, he felt a bit better.
As he was trying to figure out who was at the dinner, Lillian sent another voice message.
When Aaron heard it, his smile vanished, and his eyes darkened. Susanna getting engaged to Michael? No way! How come he hadn't heard about this?
Aaron swallowed hard and struggled to call Lillian. He had to know for sure.
Lillian was hiding behind the sofa, whispering, "Aaron?"
Lillian was torn. Why was he calling now? If Edward and the others found out, she'd be in big trouble.
Aaron heard Lillian's voice and asked, "Is your mom really getting engaged to another guy?"
"Yeah, Michael even came over for dinner today. They seemed to be talking about it. Aviana wanted to set Mom up with him, but she said no."
Hearing that Susanna had refused, Aaron felt a wave of relief and a bit of joy. "Did she really say no?"
"Yeah, she said she wasn't thinking about relationships because Charles's health isn't good yet."
Aaron's heart, which had just calmed down, started racing again. Susanna used to avoid relationships because of Charles's health, but now that Charles was better and out of the hospital, would she consider her relationship with Michael? This was a total disaster for him!
Aaron, usually so confident, felt a bit insecure. He knew that compared to Michael, the Jones Family would never pick him.
He asked nervously, "Lillian, do you want your mom to be with Michael or with me?"
Lillian was stumped. She hesitated for a long time, and then Susanna's voice came from behind. "Lillian, what are you doing hiding here alone?"
Lillian didn't have time to hang up, afraid Susanna would catch on. She quickly said, "I dropped something under the sofa, so I'm looking for it."
Susanna glanced at Lillian and didn't notice anything. She looked at the sofa and said, "If it's not important, let the butler help you find it later."
Lillian nodded and looked up. "Michael."
Michael walked over and patted Lillian's head. "You've grown a lot."
"I'm a little grown-up now; I need to grow taller."
"Here's the gift I got you; open it and see."
"Thanks, Michael." Lillian happily took the gift and started opening it nearby. Susanna sighed. "She already has so many gifts, you really didn't have to."
Michael said, "They're like my own kids. What's wrong with buying them gifts?"
Susanna caught the deeper meaning in Michael's words and quickly masked her slight embarrassment with a smile.
Meanwhile, Aaron was listening to this through Lillian's smartwatch, and he clenched his cup in anger. Michael was showing his true colors already!
Aaron kept listening, hoping to hear Susanna's response, but the call cut off.
He started pacing back and forth, anxious. What could he do to stop this?
Aaron kept sending messages to Lillian, but she wasn't replying.
As he waited, he gradually fell asleep. In a daze, he seemed to see Susanna agreeing to Michael's proposal and the two of them getting married.
He was suddenly jolted awake and sat up on the couch. Glancing at the time, he realized he had only slept for two hours.
Aaron checked his phone again and again, but still no reply. He felt like a cat on a hot tin roof, his anxiety growing with each passing moment. He'd never waited for someone's reply like this before.
He sent a voice message to Lillian, "Sweetie, why aren't you replying? Where'd you go? Did you and your mommy go out with Michael?"
Aaron felt like he was losing it. He wanted to hop in a helicopter and fly straight to the Jones Manor to get them, but he held back.
Meanwhile, Lillian looked at her smartwatch, feeling torn. Charles had told her not to talk to Aaron too much. But Aaron called her sweetie!
Lillian thought, 'Well, just one last time.'
After convincing herself, Lillian replied, "I was taking a bath, now I'm getting ready for bed."
Hearing Lillian's reply, Aaron felt a bit better. "Lillian, do you like me?" Actually, he wanted to ask if she liked him or Michael more. But he didn't, afraid of the answer.
Lillian thought seriously and replied, "You're not that annoying."
Hearing this, Aaron sighed. "Lillian, if I said I wanted to win your mommy back, would you be mad?"
"I think your chances are slim."
Aaron asked, "Why?"
"Edward and the others won't agree. Edward is really scary when he's mad."
Aaron felt a bit deflated. "Don't you want us to be a family?"
"But I think it's good like this. I have Edward, Aviana, Mommy, Charles, Michael..." Then Lillian added, "And you, so I think it's pretty good like this."
After hearing this, Aaron felt moved but not happy at all. He thought he could win some points with Lillian, but it turned out just as he feared.
Suddenly, Susanna's voice came from the other end. "Lillian, aren't you asleep? Who are you talking to?"
