Chapter 193 You Are Not Worthy of Me
Susanna held the phone for a bit before the other side picked up. "Hello, Is this Susanna?"
Dick's voice sounded cautious, almost like he couldn't believe it.
Susanna's tone was cold. "I've got the hospital surveillance video showing Harper hitting me."
"Susanna, I'm really sorry. My mom's old and was just worried about me. She didn't mean any harm," Dick said.
"If it wasn't intentional, why did you run away like you were guilty?"
Susanna wasn't buying it; she knew Harper and Dick had crossed a line.
"Susanna, how about this? I won't press charges against your brother for hitting me, and you don't go after my mom for pushing you. Let's call it even," Dick suggested.
"Who said my brother hit you?"
Susanna's voice was indifferent. "I just found out it was my ex-husband, not my brother."
Dick was surprised; it really was Susanna's ex-husband!
Dick quickly explained, "Susanna, anyway, this is your family's business. Let's just call it even."
"He's my ex-husband, not family. But if you want me to drop the matter of your mom hurting someone, you have to tell the police it was my ex-husband who hit you."
"But I was blindfolded and the guy wore a mask. I have no proof," Dick was confused.
"Don't worry about the proof; I'll testify for you," Susanna assured.
Dick was stunned, realizing she wanted to use him to catch her ex-husband!
He never knew Susanna could be this ruthless; the venom in a woman's heart could be the most potent.
But Susanna's ex-husband, who could kidnap and beat people, was clearly not someone to mess with!
"Susanna, it's not that I don't want to help you," Dick said.
"Dick, understand this: it's not you helping me; it's a deal. I'll give you tonight to think it over. Tomorrow, I'm going to the police. If you don't show up, I'll report that your mom deliberately hurt someone."
With that, Susanna hung up, not wanting to hear any more of Dick's excuses.
She looked at her phone, took a deep breath, and felt confident Dick would agree to her terms.
She wasn't sure if this would threaten Aaron, but she had to try.
After eating, Susanna was so exhausted she fell asleep immediately.
Brian watched over her for a while, then went to the living room and sent a message in the family group chat: [Susanna has eaten and fallen asleep.]
Daniel: [I've booked a flight and am at the airport. I'll handle this personally and make sure that old woman ends up in jail.]
Arthur: [I've hacked into Dick's company system and found some illegal transactions, tax evasion, and other crimes. We can use them as evidence later.]
Edward typed with a stern face: [We must teach them a harsh lesson. They dare to dream of something they can't have. Let them keep dreaming.]
Aviana: [Erica has been staying with Charlotte, pretending to cry. If Susanna returns to the Jones family soon, I'm worried Charlotte won't recognize Susanna.]
Since Erica refused to sign the adoption termination papers, she went back to Novaria to stay with Charlotte, making her threat very clear.
Justin: [I told you Erica was trouble from the start, but you insisted on adopting her. Now look at the mess she's causing.]
Edward: [I'll find a way to get Erica out of Novaria and make sure she never comes back.]
As long as Erica couldn't return to Novaria, Susanna wouldn't run into her when she came back.
Initially, Edward had hoped for an amicable parting of ways. However, Erica's audacity in using Charlotte as leverage to threaten him changed the game. He was no longer inclined to be polite.
The next day, when Susanna woke up in the apartment, she felt a bit dazed.
After washing up, she came out to have breakfast.
Brian sat next to her. "Susanna, are you going to school today? Or is there something else you want to do? Just let me know!"
"Brian, I might stay here for a few days. Can you go home and get some clothes for me? I'll ask Madison to pack them. Remember not to let anything slip in front of her," Susanna said.
"I know, don't worry, I won't say a word. I'll be off then. Take care, and call me if you need anything."
Susanna nodded and watched Brian leave before heading out herself.
When she got into a cab, she immediately messaged Dick: [Guardian Police Station, I'll be there in half an hour.]
As soon as the message was sent, Dick called, but Susanna had no intention of answering.
When she arrived outside the police station, Dick rushed over. "Susanna, we need to talk."
"There's nothing more to discuss."
Susanna turned and walked into the police station, and soon after, Dick followed.
She smirked, knowing Dick would definitely compromise.
Ten minutes later, after everything was settled, Susanna and Dick left the police station.
Dick looked at her in disbelief. "Susanna, you've changed so much I don't even recognize you."
Susanna's eyes were cold. "Everyone changes."
Dick's desire to be with Susanna was still evident as he said, "Susanna, your ex-husband is really something. Now that you're divorced, what are your plans? How about we get together? You're a designer, and I have Epic Horizon. If we join forces, the company will surely thrive."
Susanna sneered, "You want to get together, but I don't. You're a schemer; go spend your life with your mom."
"Susanna, you're divorced. Who do you think you are? Am I not worthy of you?"
"Exactly, you're not."
Susanna had no interest in engaging with someone as shameless as Dick. If it weren't for her need to use Aaron as leverage, she would have taken legal action against Harper for deliberate harm.
At that moment, Susanna's phone rang. It was Taylor, who was with Maria. "Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Maria Abbott has woken up."
"Really?"
"Yes. She has been calling your name. If you have time, you should come see her," Taylor answered.
"I'm on my way."
Susanna hung up and rushed to the hospital, feeling a bit excited.
After waiting so long, Maria was finally awake.
Austin had said that as long as she woke up and was conscious, there shouldn't be any major issues.
Susanna didn't think about anything else on the way and rushed to the ICU as soon as she arrived at the hospital. She saw Taylor. "Where's Maria?"
"Mrs. Maria Abbott has been taken for further tests. She's finally awake."
"Yes."
Susanna finally felt relieved and smiled. "I knew Maria would be okay."
Taylor nodded and looked up behind her: "Mr. Abbott, you're here."
Susanna's back instantly stiffened.
