Chapter 385 Say That Again If You Dare
Aaron mulled it over for a sec and glanced at Tyler next to him. "Get someone to take Vivian home. Keep her away from the hospital."
"Got it, Mr. Abbott."
Tyler bounced out of the room. Vivian had just stepped out of the ward and was about to grab her phone to call Maud. She'd been waiting for this shot.
"Ms. Nguyen!"
Out of nowhere, Tyler popped up beside her, making Vivian jump. She asked nervously, "What’s going on?"
"Mr. Abbott’s got a driver ready to take you home."
Vivian grinned. Looked like Aaron still gave a damn about her.
She put her phone away and got in the elevator, hitting the button for Lillian’s floor. She needed to rub it in Nova’s face; otherwise, she’d feel too wronged.
But when the elevator stopped, Tyler blocked her. "Ms. Nguyen, Mr. Abbott said you gotta go straight home."
"I’m just visiting a friend."
"Not happening. Ms. Nguyen, don’t make this hard for us."
Vivian got it instantly. They weren’t just sending her home; they were keeping tabs on her to stop her from doing anything at the hospital.
Too bad for them, she already knew what they were hiding.
Swallowing her anger, Vivian left the hospital, feeling icy. Since she was in the know, she wasn’t gonna let this slide.
That evening, Susanna set up dinner at the hospital.
She took Lillian upstairs. Aaron was lying in bed, looking kinda pale, with an IV in his arm.
Seeing Aaron like that, Susanna felt a bit touched. He could’ve said no, but he agreed so easily.
"Uncle Aaron, does it hurt?"
Lillian walked over and blew on Aaron’s hand where the IV was.
Aaron felt the back of his hand go cold, but his tough heart softened in a way he couldn’t explain.
He thought he didn’t like kids.
But when he saw Lillian, he couldn’t help but melt, wanting to give her everything good in the world.
Susanna glanced at Sam. "Set the table, let’s eat."
They had a chill meal. Lillian even slapped a sticker on Aaron and said in her sweet little voice, "This is a magic sticker."
Aaron patted Lillian’s head. "You ready?"
Lillian looked down, feeling guilty. "Not yet. I don’t wanna lose my hair!"
She really loved her hair.
Susanna held Lillian’s hand. "Alright, bedtime. The doc said you need to sleep on time. Staying up late makes you lose hair too."
She looked up at Aaron. "We’re heading out."
Aaron nodded slightly, watching Susanna and Lillian leave the ward.
Sam, sitting next to him, said, "Long night. Want me to hang out?"
Aaron shot back coldly, "Get lost!"
Downstairs, Susanna took Lillian back to the ward.
Lillian looked up at her. "Mommy, will he get sick from the IV?"
She thought Aaron looked like he was in pain from the injection.
Susanna squatted in front of Lillian. "Daddy’s not scared of needles. No matter what, he’s your dad, and he should save Charles."
Lillian didn’t quite get it and pulled out her phone watch. "Should we call Charles?"
"Sure, he probably needs to start getting ready to go into the sterile room tomorrow."
After locking the ward door, Susanna sat on the bed with Lillian and started a video call with Charles.
Soon, a cute little boy popped up on the screen, looking all serious. "Mommy."
"Charles, I'm here too!"
Charles glanced at Lillian. "Lillian, watch it with all that waving. You might get caught."
"I won't! Ask Mommy, I'm super smart."
Susanna jumped in, "That's right, Lillian did great this time. We totally fooled Aaron."
Charles kept his serious face. "Mommy, if it's too tough, just drop it. You don't have to bend over backwards."
"Are you kidding? No way I'm backing down. Do I look like someone who gets pushed around?"
Susanna looked at Charles on the screen. His face really looked like Aaron's, especially that cold expression—it was a dead ringer.
Good thing Lillian looked like her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have needed to lie; her cover would’ve been blown on day one in Radiant Valley.
"Charles, you gotta start getting injections tomorrow. You scared?"
Charles puffed up. "Not scared at all."
"Good, after the treatment, you’ll be like other kids."
Charles looked at her eagerly. "Mommy, when are you coming back?"
"Soon, we’ll be back in a few days."
Susanna had to wait until she got Aaron’s donated hematopoietic stem cells before she could leave. After all, it was what Charles needed to keep going.
She comforted Charles and then ended the video call.
Suddenly, she really wanted to take Lillian back to Novaria and be with Charles.
But now wasn’t the time; she had to hang in there a few more days.
The next day, Susanna woke up super early, too much on her mind to sleep well.
The more critical the moment, the more jittery she got.
"That witch, get her out here!" Maud started yelling as soon as she got out of the elevator. How dare Nova let Aaron donate bone marrow? It was outrageous!
Hearing Maud’s voice, Susanna worried about waking Lillian. She walked straight to the elevator and, sure enough, saw Maud standing there, fuming, but blocked by bodyguards.
Seeing Susanna, Maud snapped, "I thought you were hiding, too scared to face me!"
"I haven’t done anything wrong. Why would I be afraid to see you?"
"You haven’t done anything wrong? I heard your daughter has leukemia and needs a bone marrow donation. So you had Aaron get tested, and he was a match. Then you pushed him to donate. You’re so vicious!"
Maud had rushed over to stop this as soon as she heard the news from Vivian in the morning, not even having breakfast.
Susanna stayed calm. "I didn’t push Aaron. He volunteered to donate bone marrow to my daughter. Also, donating bone marrow isn’t as complicated as you think. It’s just hematopoietic stem cells; it won’t mess up the body."
"Don’t give me that crap. I don’t buy it. How could donating bone marrow not affect the body? It’s bone marrow, not as simple as donating blood."
Susanna lost her patience. "If you don’t get it, ask the doctor downstairs."
"Of course I get it! Donating bone marrow is a big deal. If it’s so simple, why did Aaron have to be hospitalized?"
Maud was livid. "Stop the surgery now, or I won't let you or your daughter get away with it! Someone who's not even healthy deserves Aaron's bone marrow? No way!"
Susanna’s face darkened, her eyes icy. "Say that again?"
