Chapter 267 I'm Setting Susanna Up with Someone

Susanna stared at the photos , confused. Was Maria trying to set her up on a date?

Aaron's face darkened. "Grandma, what are you doing?"

"Setting Susanna up on a date!"

Aaron's lips tightened, clearly annoyed. "Grandma, I'm right here!"

Setting up his ex-wife with someone else while he was around? And Susanna was pregnant with his child. No way he was letting her marry someone else!

Maria raised an eyebrow. "Well, help me check these guys out. We need to know if they have any skeletons in their closets!"

Aaron stayed silent, fuming.

What did she mean by "help"?

He adjusted his tie, looking stern but saying nothing.

Susanna sighed, glancing at the photos. "Grandma, I'm not looking to date right now."

Aaron's mood lifted a bit.

Maria looked disappointed. "Fair enough. If you're moving back to Novaria, it makes sense to marry someone from there. I didn't think of that."

Susanna felt frustrated. That wasn't what she meant.

Aaron's brow furrowed. If Susanna moved back to Novaria, she might never return to Lindwell. What would he do then?

Aaron glanced at Susanna's belly. If Maria knew she was pregnant with his child, she'd make Susanna stay. Would Susanna refuse Maria?

Feeling Aaron's stare, Susanna quickly grabbed a pillow to cover her belly, silently cursing him.

What was with Aaron's look?

Was he planning to tell Maria about the pregnancy to make her stay?

Susanna frowned. She couldn't let Aaron have that chance. She might give in!

She stood up. "Grandma Abbott, I'm going to the restroom."

"Go ahead. When you get back, we'll eat. I had the restaurant make your favorite dishes," Maria said.

Susanna took a deep breath and headed to the restroom. She knew Maria cared for her, but she wanted to live her own life.

When she came out, Aaron was waiting outside.

Aaron looked down at her. "Where are you planning to take my child?"

Susanna's heart skipped a beat. Aaron was focused on the baby.

She touched her belly and looked up at him. "You said you didn't like kids and didn't want any."

Aaron's eyes turned cold, then embarrassed.

"I did say that."

"Then why pretend now?" Susanna asked, her eyes mocking. She remembered how many times she had asked him about keeping the baby, but his attitude never changed.

Aaron gripped her wrist tightly. "But this is my child. You can't decide alone where the baby will live. The child belongs in Lindwell."

She also had to give birth in Lindwell.

Susanna saw Aaron's serious expression and knew he wasn't kidding.

She lifted her chin defiantly. "Go ahead and try. See if my six brothers agree! I'm not the orphan the Abbott family can push around anymore!"

Aaron's grip tightened, his lips curling coldly. "This is Lindwell, not your brothers' turf. They can't claim my child."

The tension between them grew.

Susanna suddenly laughed. "I never said the baby is yours."

Aaron froze. "What do you mean?"

"Literally, don't you get it??"

Susanna tried to pull away, but Aaron grabbed her shoulder, his eyes bloodshot. "If it's not mine, whose is it?"

Austin and Brian were her brothers, and the men rumored to be with her were all from the Jones family. There were no other men around Susanna.

So, it had to be his child!

Susanna suppressed her pain and looked at him calmly. "I don't know either. Before you filed for divorce, you were never home and always rumored to be with other women. So, I went to a bar, got drunk, and hooked up with a random guy. That's when I got pregnant."

Aaron's gaze turned sharp.

He frowned. "You're lying."

She lowered her eyelids, looking indifferent. "If I thought the baby was yours, don't you think I would've used it to threaten you when you kicked me out?"

Feeling Aaron's grip loosen, she continued, "I thought the baby wasn't yours. We had a fling, but I took precautions. I was scared you'd get mad if you knew I was with someone else, so I kept quiet."

Susanna stood there, looking small.

"Susanna, do you think I believe you?" Aaron stood firm.

"Believe it or not, it doesn't matter. I'm the heir of the Jones family now. Whether the baby is yours doesn't matter."

"If you were scared I'd find out the baby wasn't from the Abbott family, why did you always say it was your brother's?" Aaron asked.

Facing Aaron's intense gaze, Susanna forced herself to answer. "I had my brothers as backup. I never said the baby was my brother's. You misunderstood."

Aaron stood there, his handsome face angry, his eyes showing an emotion even he didn't realize. After a while, he let go of her hand. "Susanna, have you ever told the truth?"

Her hand clenched at her side. "That's why I didn't tell Grandma I was pregnant. The baby isn't from the Abbott family. If she knew, she'd be sad and disappointed."

She pressed her lips together. "And I didn't lie. I never said the baby was yours."

Aaron laughed angrily, feeling like a joke.

"Susanna." Maria's voice called out.
