Chapter 61 It Gets Worse
After spotting the familiar figure, Susanna thought she must have been mistaken. How could Aaron be here?
Erica walked towards Aaron with a smile. "Aaron, why are you here?"
Aaron was dressed in a dark suit, surrounded by a serious-looking group of people. He remained expressionless when he saw Erica, but his gaze fell on Susanna, who was behind Erica.
Aaron's eyebrows furrowed, and Erica quickly explained, "I've been considering renovating my house recently, and Miss Miller's Q.F. Studio is quite renowned, so I hired her. I didn't expect Susanna to be the one coming today."
Elaine chimed in from the side. "Susanna, why are you standing outside? Come in and choose something."
Susanna glanced at Aaron and Erica standing together but finally resisted the discomfort and approached. Without even looking at Aaron, she said solemnly to Erica, "Miss Jones, what type of mattress are you looking for?"
Erica turned her head to look at Aaron. "Aaron, which mattress series do you think is the best and most comfortable?"
Aaron pursed his lips and glanced at the store manager standing next to him. "You introduce it."
The store manager immediately stepped forward, excitedly introducing the various mattress series in the store.
Susanna stood off to the side. The mall's air conditioning was too cold; she felt cold all over, and a wave of nausea threatened to overwhelm her.
After listening for a while, Erica turned back and deliberately looked at Susanna. "Miss Miller, what do you think?"
Susanna hadn't actually heard what the salesperson had said at all, but she managed to force out a response. “Any of them would be fine. It depends on what you like."
"As a designer, please recommend one for me," Erica insisted.
Susanna randomly pointed to one mattress and then felt the air grow quiet around her; it seemed like many people were looking at her.
She tried her best to compose herself as she read the introduction to the mattress she had chosen. It reads, "Super king-size latex water bed, a must-have for enhancing emotions."
That was when Susanna realized she had selected a rather embarrassing mattress.
Erica laughed, blushing as she looked at Aaron. "Aaron, what do you think of Miss Miller's choice?"
Elaine sneered, "Susanna, you really made a good choice. No wonder men like you so much."
Erica said sharply, "Elaine, stop talking nonsense."
"Can't Susanna admit what she dared to do?" Elaine coldly hummed.
Susanna furrowed her brows. She didn't have the energy to deal with Elaine's sarcasm and patiently asked, "Miss Jones, have you made your selection?"
Elaine was getting impatient. "Susanna, are you leaving now? The service at Q.F. Studio is really terrible," she said.
Erica chimed in, "And the arrangement of the photo wall wasn't chosen either."
Suddenly, Susanna felt dizzy. In her panic, she reached out to hold onto something for support and accidentally grabbed someone's wrist, steadying herself in the process.
She opened her eyes again. "Thank you," she said.
"Your face is very pale." Hearing the deep voice, Susanna realized that the person she had unintentionally grabbed was Aaron. She instinctively let go of his hand, but he held onto her wrist and ordered her to sit down.
At that moment, Elaine angrily turned back and said, "Susanna, what are you doing? Let Aaron go immediately!"
Erica saw the two people holding hands behind them, and her expression grew darker.
Susanna forcefully pulled her hand back and looked at Aaron distantly. "I'm fine. It's my job."
Aaron asked coldly, "Would you risk your life for work?"
Susanna turned around and began to walk forward, but she didn't take more than a few steps before she fainted.
She instinctively protected her belly, thinking that she would definitely fall hard, but at the last second, someone caught her. She fell into a familiar yet unfamiliar embrace. Susanna struggled to open her eyes but couldn't see the person clearly.
Aaron held Susanna in his arms, noticing that she was covered in a cold sweat, trembling, and had pale lips. He carried her out of the shopping mall without hesitation.
Erica saw this scene and quickly caught up. "Aaron."
But she was a step too slow, and the elevator doors closed. Aaron didn't wait for her at all.
Erica's face darkened with anger. She said to Elaine, "Was Susanna doing this on purpose?"
Elaine also caught up, she replied, "She definitely did this on purpose. Susanna was perfectly fine just now and suddenly fainted conveniently in Aaron's arms. Susanna is really good at acting, and Aaron really fell for it."
Erica looked unwillingly at the elevator numbers, which indicated that they were stopping at the basement. Aaron must be taking Susanna to the hospital.
Erica pressed the elevator button. "Let's go, we're going to the hospital too." She knew all these tricks, so she would definitely not let Susanna get away with pretending to be pitiful.
---
At this moment, Susanna had already been carried into a car and was leaning against a man's chest in a daze.
Susanna felt someone touch her forehead, and then a towel wiped away the sweat from her forehead. She was shivering from the cold and kept moving closer to the source of warmth.
Aaron glanced down at her as she snuggled into his arms. If he didn't know she was sick, he would have thought she was doing it on purpose.
The man took off his suit jacket and covered her with it, holding her tightly and commanding the driver. "Go to the nearest hospital quickly."
The driver quickly accelerated and headed to the nearest hospital.
Aaron once again touched Susanna's forehead and realized it was hot and feverish.
The vehicle arrived outside the hospital, and Aaron carried Susanna in his arms as they quickly walked toward the emergency room.
As the wind blew outside, Susanna became more alert. She opened her eyes and saw the man's smooth chin and tightly pursed thin lips. Was this Aaron?
She quickly averted her gaze and, upon seeing the lights of the hospital, instantly became cautious. "Aaron, put me down."
"Don't move," Aaron said.
"I don't want to go to the hospital! I'm fine!" Susanna began to struggle. Being pregnant now, she couldn't be treated like an ordinary person with a common cold or fever, as it would affect the baby. That was also why she initially only intended to go home and rest since she wasn't feeling well.
If the doctor found out she was pregnant, it would be terrible. She didn't want Aaron to know about her pregnancy. After all, they would be getting divorced in a month.
"Susanna, be quiet, or I'll drop you on the ground!" Although Aaron said this, he continued to hold onto her without letting go, carrying Susanna all the way to a bed in the emergency room. "The doctor will come soon. Don't move."
"I'm fine now. I don't need to see a doctor!" Susanna insisted.
Susanna immediately got off the bed, only to be pinned down by the man. He placed his hands on both sides of her and gave her a stern look. "Are you drunk?"
"No. I'm fine." How is she going to hide the child inside her when the doctor arrives?
Susanna looked stubbornly at him, but the man suddenly lowered his head towards her. Their foreheads touched.
