Chapter 301 This Is Not How You Coax Your Wife

Aaron felt kinda lost and croaked out, "Grandma, could you please stop talking?"

"Alright, I've done all I can," Maria said.

Aaron was puzzled. "Grandma, why won't she take my kindness?"

Maria's eyes drilled into him. "Why should she? Have you really told her how you feel, or are you just clinging to her without owning up to your mistakes and showing real regret?"

Aaron's face turned awkward at Maria's words.

He coughed and said, "Do I really have to spell it out?" With everyone at the party watching, it was tough to be open.

"Think a few gifts will fix everything? What do you take Susanna for?" Maria's gaze cut through him. With a tired sigh, she added, "I'm feeling a bit worn out. I need a break."

"Then get some rest." Aaron watched Maria take the elevator upstairs. He stood there, her words echoing in his mind. His throat tightened, and a look of determination crossed his face.

"Aaron." Vivian came from the nearby corridor, holding a gift. She cautiously said, "I saw Mrs. Maria Abbott go back to her room to rest. I wanted to see her and say a few words before leaving."

Aaron frowned. "Grandma doesn't want to see you right now, let's leave it for today," he said, striding off and leaving Vivian standing there, feeling embarrassed.

Vivian had the means to flaunt herself at the party today, decked out in designer clothes and jewelry like the elite. But why did Maria choose Susanna over her?

Soon, Taylor walked up to her. "Ms. Nguyen, Mr. Abbott told me to arrange a car to take you away."

A dark look flashed in Vivian's eyes, but she said nothing and turned to leave.

However, Taylor didn't follow her, only a servant did. After walking a bit, Vivian stopped and looked at the maid. "What exactly do you mean by cooperation?"

Wendy raised her head with a cold smile and whispered, "Follow me."

Vivian glanced back at the glamorous party, gritted her teeth, and turned to follow.

Seated in the lounge, Susanna took a moment to compose herself, still a bit shaken from the earlier mishap. Thankfully, the accident just dirtied her dress, and she was unharmed.

Austin poured her a glass of water. "Were you scared?" he asked, concern in his voice.

Edward, looking annoyed, chimed in, "What's wrong with the Abbott family? Even a servant dares to bump into you. Was it on purpose?"

Arthur frowned too. "The Abbott family isn't right for Susanna."

Brian added, "Yeah, the Abbott family has brought Susanna bad luck for three years. They're clearly not the right fit for her."

Susanna found herself caught between laughter and tears as she listened to her brothers' relentless disdain for the Abbott family. Deep down, she knew their strong opinions came from their love and concern for her.

Because the Abbott family treated her poorly, her brothers hated them. Earlier, Aviana also mocked Maud, leaving her speechless.

Soon, a maid appeared with a fresh dress. As Susanna made her way to the bathroom to change into it, the familiarity of the dress sparked a memory. She remembered when Aaron had been away on a business trip, and Maria had made a special request for him to bring back something for her.

Aaron had brought back this dress, but every time there was an Abbott family shindig, she was too swamped to wear it. This was the first time she actually put on something he bought.

Susanna even wondered if Aaron had set this up on purpose. Despite her suspicions, she still slipped into the dress, a princess-style puffy number that showed off her delicate collarbones, with a loose fit around the waist that was just right—not too tight, not too revealing.

When Susanna walked out in the dress, her brothers were all staring at her, making her feel a bit self-conscious. "What's up? Is there something wrong with this dress?" she asked.

Aviana beamed, "The dress is perfect, it suits you so well, you look like a princess."

Susanna was pretty surprised; she thought Aaron had just grabbed a random dress to keep Maria happy.

Just then, a maid knocked and came in. "Ms. Jones, Mrs. Maria Abbott wants to see you."

"Now?"

"Yes, she is waiting for you in her bedroom on the second floor."

Susanna nodded. "I'll be right there."

Edward suddenly frowned. "Do you want us to go with you?"

"No need, maybe Grandma has something to say to me alone."

Susanna knew the crystal tiara Aaron had at the party earlier must be from Maria's private stash. How could Aaron have such things? Even though she turned down Aaron's gift, she still felt the need to clear things up with Maria.

With the maid by her side, she headed towards the familiar elevator, only to see a maintenance sign saying it was out of service.

The maid respectfully said, "The elevator's broken. Shall we take the stairs instead?"

Susanna looked at the elevator in surprise. "How did it break?"

In the three years she had been married into the Abbott family, the elevator at Abbott Manor had only broken once, due to a storm causing water leakage.

After all, Maria used the elevator regularly, and repairmen often maintained and checked it. Logically, with a party today, they would have checked it in advance!

The maid lowered her eyes, replying, "I don't know either, there was a minor issue, so it was stopped for safety."

"Wouldn't that be super inconvenient for Mrs. Maria Abbott?"

"The workers are already fixing it," the maid replied.

Hearing it was a minor issue and not completely broken, Susanna felt a bit more at ease. She walked to the second floor and arrived outside Maria's room. The maid opened the door for her.

As Susanna approached to knock, the door swung open, inviting her inside. "Grandma Abbott," she greeted.

Susanna entered the room but found it empty. Since the elevator mishap, a sense of unease had been growing within her. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was definitely off.

Susanna stopped and was about to leave when suddenly she felt a sharp pain at the back of her head and fell to the ground, unconscious.

She instinctively protected her lower abdomen, curling up on the ground, ignoring the pain in her head, only protecting her belly.

She didn't expect to be attacked in Maria's bedroom. Who could it be?

Before completely losing consciousness, Susanna saw a pair of high heels on the ground, with a tattoo on the ankle.

She reached out to grab the person's foot, trying to look up and see who attacked her, but ultimately couldn't hold on and blacked out.
