Chapter 574 No Escaping Blind Dates

Susanna saw Madison's shocked expression, just as she had expected. She gave Charles and Lillian a little pat on the head. "Yep, I brought them to see you."

Madison discreetly wiped away her tears. Looking at Charles and Lillian, she was reminded of Susanna when she was a kid.

Madison was thrilled to see Charles and Lillian and brought out almost all the snacks she had. She complained to Susanna, "You should've told me about them! I could've gotten gifts for the kids. It's their first time here, and I didn't prepare anything. How embarrassing."

Susanna linked arms with Madison. "No need; the kids have plenty of toys. We mainly came to keep you company."

Originally, Susanna had planned to visit Madison once Charles recovered. But then Maria woke up, and her condition wasn't great, so the plan got disrupted.

"That's not the same. Those are the gifts you bought for the kids; these would be from me. It's different."

Lillian said sweetly, "Madison, I'm very well-behaved. I like you whether you give me gifts or not."

Madison was instantly amused, "You sure know how to talk, little one."

Seeing the kids around Madison, who was all smiles, Susanna felt a bit better. But then, the image of Aaron standing alone outside the operating room flashed through her mind.

Susanna lowered her eyes, hoping Maria would recover healthily. She didn't want anything bad to happen to her.

After dinner, Madison took Charles and Lillian for a walk around the neighborhood. Susanna followed behind, watching Madison proudly introduce them to the neighbors, "These are my two little darlings, aren't they cute?"

Her neighbor said, "Are they boy-girl twins? How lucky! Did Susanna come back from Novaria to see you?"

Madison nodded. "Of course, she was busy with work before, but now she's finally free to come back."

At this point, Susanna stepped forward and said to the neighbor, "Thank you all for taking care of Madison."

The neighbor replied, "She is well-liked, and everyone is happy to help. Besides, you hired a nanny and a family doctor for regular visits. How filial of you."

Madison immediately said, "I told her not to because it's so expensive, but she insisted." Even though Madison said this, her face clearly showed a smile.

Susanna couldn't help but laugh. She thought, 'Is this the unique way adults show off?'

Previously, Edward had planned to hire a 24-hour nanny and family doctor for Madison, as she lived alone and needed someone to look after her.

But Madison strongly refused, so they had to settle for a nanny to come regularly for cleaning and a family doctor to visit once a month.

The neighbor added, "I must say, Susanna's devotion to her family is impressive. Look at how proud you are! If you keep talking, I'll get jealous."

Madison took Charles and Lillian to the neighborhood playground, where many kids were playing. Although Charles wasn't interested, he followed because Lillian wanted to. What if Lillian got bullied? He had to keep an eye on her.

Meanwhile, Susanna and Madison sat nearby waiting. Madison looked at her and said, "Susanna, why'd you suddenly decide to come back? Is there something you need to handle?"

Susanna sighed. "You always see right through me."

"What's going on? Did the Abbott Family find out about the kids, and you're back to deal with it?"

Seeing Madison's worried look, Susanna felt a pang of heartache. "Not really. The Abbott Family has no right to fight me for custody of the kids, and they can't take them from me. You don't need to worry about that.""After all, the Abbott Family is wealthy. I'm just worried you can't compete with them. You almost lost your life in the Abbott Family back then. Have you forgotten?"

Susanna held Madison's hand. "My family in Novaria is also very influential. We're not afraid of the Abbott Family. Don't worry; I'll be fine."

"Really?" Madison looked doubtful. She knew Susanna's brothers were well-off, but the Abbott Family was in a league of their own; wealth alone didn't tell the whole story.

Susanna thought it was time to tell Madison about her own identity. Last time she came back in a hurry and didn't have time to say it. She was also worried that Aaron might be monitoring Madison, exposing her identity. But now, there was no need to hide it anymore. "Madison, actually I am..."

Before Susanna could finish, several neighbors came over to greet Madison. Madison smiled and introduced Susanna, "This is my niece. Now that she's not busy with work, she brought the kids to see me."

"Your niece is so beautiful. She looks so young; it's hard to believe she has two kids."

"Exactly, she's good-looking, capable, and makes money. We're really envious."

Susanna smiled and replied, "Madison raised me for many years. Of course, I have to treat her well. If it weren't for Madison, I probably wouldn't have grown up."

After Susanna finished speaking, Madison pulled her hand. "Susanna, why are you saying such nonsense now? The past is the past. As long as you're doing well now, that's all that matters."

Susanna nodded. "I know." But if Madison hadn't taken pity on her back then, Susanna really didn't know how she would have grown up. Andrew and Grace would probably have sold her long ago.

The neighbors also sensed that something was off and quickly changed the subject. "Alright, let's not talk about that. Ms. Jones, I heard you're still single. Do you have any requirements for a future partner?"

Susanna was a bit caught off guard by the topic. "What?"

"Ms. Jones, don't get me wrong. It's not easy raising kids alone. You should be with a kind-hearted man. I actually know someone — my friend's son just got divorced. He's very accomplished, a financial executive, and quite good-looking. Would you consider him?"

"I know a family friend's son who was about to get married, but his fiancée suddenly demanded a lot of money and canceled the engagement. Although he's divorced, he hasn't had a wedding or kids. He's quite a catch." The two neighbors seemed ready to argue over introducing potential matches.

Susanna couldn't help but laugh. "Sorry, I'm not into relationships right now."

"Ms. Jones, are you still hung up on your ex-husband?"
