Chapter 390 The Plan is Already Half Successful
Susanna woke up all groggy and peeked at the snoozing Lillian. Only then did she sneak out of the room.
She stretched and yawned, "What's the deal? What's happening?"
"Mrs. Maud Abbott woke up this morning and started going on about jumping off the building to end it all!"
Suicide?
Susanna snapped awake. She frowned, "I knew she wouldn't just let it slide."
"Ms. Jones, Mrs. Maud Abbott is still demanding to see you. The docs and nurses are trying to talk her down. Honestly, I don't think you need to go. She's probably just putting on a show for you."
"Take me to her."
Susanna knew she had to check on Maud, especially after Aaron's intense reaction to the meds yesterday and his silence about it.
For Aaron's sake, she decided to see what Maud was up to.
Susanna followed her assistant to Maud's hospital room, already swarming with security and medical staff.
Susanna walked in calmly, and someone immediately said, "Mrs. Maud Abbott, she's here."
Maud burst into tears. "Don't stop me! If you take Aaron's bone marrow, I'll jump out the window!"
Susanna could tell Maud was faking it. She cut to the chase, "What do you want from me?"
"I will never agree to Aaron donating his bone marrow. If he insists, I'll jump from here. Let's see if he cares more about me or that sick kid."
Susanna pulled up a chair and sat in front of Maud. "Cut the crap. What do you really want?"
"Stopping my son from donating bone marrow, that's what I want."
"If that's the case, you should jump in front of Aaron, not send someone to fetch me! What's your real condition? Spill it."
Susanna knew Maud had an ulterior motive.
Maud hesitated. "I know I can't stop Aaron from donating his bone marrow, but if I really wanted to, I could find a way."
"So, what's your condition?" Susanna was getting impatient.
"My condition is that you must break up with Aaron and not be with him."
Susanna raised an eyebrow, "That's it?"
She thought it would be a much tougher demand.
Maud suspiciously asked, "What do you mean?"
"Nothing. I can agree to that, but you must not interfere with the bone marrow donation."
Susanna showed a hint of unease and patience, quickly dispelling Maud's doubts.
Seeing her agree, Maud breathed a sigh of relief. "I warn you, don't go back on your word, or I won't let you off."
Susanna stood up from the chair. "I know. Don't worry, I won't go back on my word."
She had planned to leave after getting Aaron's bone marrow anyway.
In a way, that was equivalent to breaking up, wasn't it?
After leaving Maud's room, Susanna's secretary said, "Ms. Jones, when have you ever had to put up with such crap, humbling yourself in front of the Abbott family?"
Seeing Ms. Jones being threatened by Maud, the secretary felt indignant.
Susanna's red lips curved slightly. "As long as the bone marrow donation goes smoothly, none of this matters."
As long as Charles could recover, enduring a little crap was nothing!
In the afternoon, Aaron began the blood draw.
Susanna held Lillian's hand, standing quietly by the side, feeling a mix of emotions. Finally, the day had come.
Lillian clutched her hand and asked, "Mommy, will Uncle Aaron be in pain? He's giving so much blood!"
Susanna looked down, patted Lillian's head, and stayed quiet for a moment.
She knew this was the end of the line.
After it was over, Aaron lay weakly on the hospital bed, wearing those loose patient clothes.
Susanna brought Lillian in and took a deep breath. "You okay?"
"I'm fine."
Aaron glanced at Lillian and said, "Lillian, see? It's no big deal. Don't worry."
Lillian walked over, held his big hand, and blew on his wound a few times, saying, "I'll blow on your wound so it won't hurt anymore."
Aaron's thin lips curved into a smile. He reached out to pat Lillian's little head, feeling a soft spot in his heart. He looked at Susanna. "Lillian's been waiting outside for so long. Take her to rest."
Susanna nodded. "Okay, you rest up too."
As she held Lillian's hand and got ready to leave, she said to Lillian, "Say goodbye to Uncle Aaron."
Lillian turned and waved. "Bye-bye!"
Aaron leaned against the headboard, smiling as he watched Lillian and Susanna leave. He was really hoping Lillian would get better soon.
After leaving, Susanna went straight downstairs and asked her secretary, "Where's the donated bone marrow?"
"It's already stored. To avoid attention, a helicopter is set to leave tonight."
"Good, got it."
Susanna took a deep breath, feeling a bit on edge. It was five in the afternoon, just a few more hours to go.
Lillian looked up at her and asked, "Mommy, are we leaving tonight?"
Susanna patted Lillian's head and replied, "Yep, we're taking the bone marrow back to save Charles. He's already waiting in the sterile chamber."
She could see Lillian didn't want to leave Aaron, but now wasn't the time to talk about it. She had to get the bone marrow back in time.
Soon, it was evening.
Susanna quietly got ready to leave with Lillian. But as they took the elevator to the rooftop to catch the helicopter, they ran into Maud.
Susanna tried to stay calm. "Mrs. Maud Abbott, is there something you need?"
"I have something to discuss with you."
"Mrs. Maud Abbott, I won't go back on what I promised you this morning."
"I'm here because of that. To make sure you don't go back on your word, you need to come with me to see Aaron and break up with him in person. Only then will I believe you."
Susanna frowned. "But Aaron is weak right now. How about we do it tomorrow?"
"No! It has to be now, or else I'm afraid you might pull something later on."
Susanna was annoyed. If Maud delayed her now, there might be some unexpected complications with Charles's surgery.
She made a quick decision and told her secretary, "Take Lillian downstairs for a walk. Don't wait for me."
The secretary got the hint and nodded, taking Lillian away.
Susanna then looked at Maud and asked, "Is Aaron awake?"
"If he's not, we'll wait for him to wake up. Aaron made such a big sacrifice; you can't be that impatient, can you?"
"Let's go then."
Susanna just wanted to buy more time, hoping her secretary could get Lillian on the helicopter and leave smoothly.
She followed Maud to Aaron's room, and he was already awake.
Seeing Aaron awake, Susanna felt a bit guilty!
Aaron looked at her and asked, "Where's Lillian?"
