Chapter 580 Aaron Was Disliked
Susanna had just gotten back from the hospital with the kids, and Aaron showed up. It was no coincidence.
Aaron paused and said, "The kids don't come over often, so I got them some gifts and thought I'd bring them by."
Susanna realized it was about the gifts. She had thought it was because Vivian had been caught. But that made sense. Vivian had just snuck into the hospital, and someone as careful as her would definitely wait for the right moment to make a move.
Madison quickly said, "Thanks a lot, Mr. Abbott. I didn't have time to get any gifts for the kids when they arrived. If you've got some, just bring them in."
Honestly, if Aaron hadn't shown up when he did, they would've been in a tough spot. Madison also noticed that Susanna and Aaron seemed a bit less icy towards each other. She wondered, 'Could it be that their relationship had gotten better because of Maria?'
Susanna didn't stop him, after all, Aaron's timely arrival had kept Madison and Charles from getting hurt. She had been too careless this time, not bringing any bodyguards with her. Mainly, she hadn't expected something like this to happen here.
Soon, the secretary brought in the gifts, and the hall was quickly half-filled. Susanna's mouth twitched. "You bought so much!"
Aaron said calmly, "I didn't know what the kids would like, so I got a bit of everything. They can pick what they want."
Susanna was a bit stunned. This gift-buying style was just like her brothers'. It was a wonder the kids hadn't turned out spoiled growing up in such an environment.
Madison was also seeing this kind of gift-giving for the first time and was a bit taken aback. "Mr. Abbott, you bought too many gifts. The kids can't play with all of them."
Charles said arrogantly, "I already have all these gifts. I'm not interested."
Aaron pointed to a big box. "This is an accessory for that telescope from last time. I heard it can see more clearly."
Charles was stunned and then quickly reacted. "You bought that telescope?"
Susanna noticed Charles's gaze and touched her nose. "Yeah, he did buy that telescope."
Charles's expression froze, unsure whether to be angry. Madison held Charles's hand. "Take it. After all, it's from your father."
Charles said nothing. Lillian, on the other hand, seemed to like the gifts. She picked up a doll box. "I like this one. We don't need the rest."
Susanna knew Lillian was always considerate and wouldn't embarrass Aaron at this moment. Madison clearly sensed it too and patted Lillian's head. "Lillian, you're such an angel. What do you want for dinner? I'll make it for you."
Madison took Lillian and Charles to the kitchen, giving Aaron and Susanna some time alone. Susanna looked at the gifts scattered around. "You didn't need to buy so many gifts. We don't have space for them. The kids don't lack these things. Why bother?"
After she finished, Aaron looked at her seriously. "Besides buying stuff, I don't know how else to make it up to them. If the kids don't like these gifts, we can donate them to charity."
Susanna nodded. "Alright."
The hall fell into an awkward silence. Aaron thought about what had happened earlier and frowned. "If you're really planning to date, you should at least choose a guy who's not worse than me."
Susanna looked up at him. "That shouldn't be too hard, considering there are few men worse than you. If there's nothing else, you can leave. Do you expect me to invite you to dinner?"
Just then, Lillian ran out and looked at Aaron. "Madison asked me to see if you want to stay for dinner."
Susanna quickly said, "No need."
Aaron responded just as fast, "Sure."
Susanna glared at Aaron. "Stay for what? Back then, you wouldn't even come to see Madison. Now you're eager to stay. Don't you find it funny?"
Aaron stepped forward. Susanna didn't back down, looking up at him seriously. He said in a low voice, "I regret it."
Susanna pressed her lips together. "Regret can't change anything."
"I know, so even if you drive me away, I'll still stay."
"Don't you find it embarrassing?"
"You might, but I think it's fine."
Seeing Aaron's shamelessness, Susanna was speechless. In the past, Aaron would have left long ago.
Aaron plopped down on the sofa and looked at Lillian. "Really don't want the other gifts?"
Lillian shook her head. "I have a lot of gifts already. Let's donate them to other kids."
Aaron hesitated. "Charles, what do you think?"
Charles ignored him completely. Lillian thought for a moment before saying, "Keep the telescope. We can donate the rest. Charles doesn't like toys much."
Aaron looked at his secretary. "Take the stuff away."
The secretary obediently took the extra gifts away. But Susanna still saw quite a few gifts left. "What are these?"
Aaron replied, "These are the gifts for Madison. Are they being taken away too?"
"If they're for Madison, then no need." Susanna couldn't care less.
Soon, it was time for dinner, and they sat around the dining table. Madison's eyes lit up, thinking how nice it would be if the family could be together.
After dinner, Madison saw the gifts Aaron had bought. "Why did you get me all this stuff?"
Aaron stood up. "It's what I should do."
"Susanna, see Mr. Abbott out."
Aaron added, "Madison, you can call me Aaron."
Susanna's mouth twitched as she walked outside with Aaron. Aaron was quite good at pretending. He used to be so cold when called Mr. Abbott, and now he was asking to be called by his first name.
Aaron said calmly, "I'm leaving now. If there's any trouble here, contact me anytime."
Susanna replied, "No need. I can handle these small matters."
Aaron felt a bit frustrated, not knowing how to proceed. Seeing Aaron's helpless look, Susanna felt quite satisfied. But after a few steps, Aaron turned back.
