Chapter 535 It's Normal That You Don't Recognize Me

Susanna figured there had to be another reason behind Maud's actions.

Amelia chimed in, "It's gotta be about money. They're pretty generous, and Maud's desperate for cash right now. I heard it took a lot to get Calum out of jail."

Susanna was taken aback. "Wait, Maud already got Calum out?"

It wasn't like Maud was broke, but the Thornberry Family wanted a hefty sum. Plus, Maud had her own legal mess and couldn't stick around Novaria for long.

Susanna thought Maud was stuck, but she didn't expect her to actually pull it off. How did the Thornberry Family agree to this?

Amelia nodded. "Yeah, I was curious too. I thought the Abbott Family paid for it, but I had someone look into it, and it wasn't them."

Susanna asked, "So where did Maud get all that money?"

From what Susanna knew, Maud wanted to save Calum, but it seemed unlikely she'd blow all her assets.

Maud was so vain. If she went broke, how could she keep up the social circles in Lindwell? And even if she wanted to sell her properties, it wouldn't be that quick.

Plus, Aaron wouldn't let Maud sell everything just to save Calum.

So, where did Maud get the cash and the connections to make the Thornberry Family back down?

Amelia lowered her voice, "I heard Maud's been cozying up to folks from Emerald Island lately."

"Cozying up to people from Emerald Island? Are you sure?"

Susanna frowned. There had been a conflict between the research institute and Betsy, who was stuck in Novaria and couldn't leave.

Emerald Island was negotiating with Owen and had submitted documents. The process was ongoing. Even though Emerald Island wanted shortcuts, Betsy's arrogant remarks had everyone watching. They couldn't use backdoor methods, and Owen couldn't let them off the hook right now.

This could only be sorted out once the public attention died down.

But Betsy had to stay in Novaria and be monitored, unable to go anywhere.

She wasn't in prison, but being constantly watched was no picnic.

Susanna never expected Maud to get involved with people from Emerald Island.

She asked, "Who from Emerald Island is Maud dealing with?"

"I'm still digging into that. The person's identity is super mysterious, and they've never shown their face. But from some inside info, it seems to be the granddaughter of the current Prime Minister, Connor."

Susanna asked, "Connor's granddaughter? His daughter died in an accident years ago. How does he suddenly have a granddaughter?"

"I don't know. This involves Connor's family, and he keeps his privacy tight. It's hard to get the details. But if she really is the Prime Minister's granddaughter, helping Maud wouldn't be a big deal. But why would she help Maud?"

"I'm curious about that too."

Knowing Maud, if she had connections with Emerald Island, she would've been bragging about it ages ago.

Susanna suddenly thought of Aaron's identity and was at a loss for words.

She always found it odd that Maud, with her personality, was the butt of many jokes in the Abbott Family. But since they were the wealthiest in Lindwell, no one dared to openly mock her.

Maud was someone whose abilities didn't match her status, yet the Abbott Family seemed very tolerant of her.

Susanna only found out the reason a few days ago, because of Aaron's identity.

So both the Abbott Family and Aaron felt guilty towards Maud, which was why they were so tolerant of her.

Susanna frowned. Due to the conflict between the research institute and Emerald Island, she was always wary of people from there.

It seemed really strange that Maud was suddenly getting close to the Prime Minister's newly emerged granddaughter from Emerald Island.

She felt that Maud suddenly calling Elaine to Novaria and intentionally connecting with her might have something to do with that Prime Minister's granddaughter.

Amelia said, "Susanna, I'll have someone keep digging into this. But my assistant just called to say my dad has arrived. I specifically asked him to come to the investment banquet today."

"You really didn't have to, considering all the stuff going on in your family right now."

"Susanna, I know there have been some misunderstandings between our families recently. I want to ease the tension. I don't want us to drift apart because of Vivian, which would only make her happy."

Susanna sighed, understanding Amelia's intentions. Now that Owen had Vivian by his side and connections with the Abbott Family, Amelia needed to find another powerful ally. The Jones Family was a great choice.

Seeing the cautious look in Amelia's eyes, Susanna patted her hand, "Let's go welcome your dad together."

After all, Owen attending today's investment banquet was a sign of respect.

No matter what happened in private, they had to keep up appearances.

Seeing Amelia's expression, Susanna suddenly remembered her own situation in the Abbott Family five years ago.

They walked to the entrance and spotted Owen, accompanied by Vivian.

Seeing Vivian, Susanna wasn't surprised. She glanced at Amelia.

As expected, Amelia's expression turned sour. Susanna patted her shoulder and said, "Stay calm."

"But I didn't invite Vivian. I'm sure you didn't either. How dare that bitch publicly appear by my dad's side? What if my mom sees this?"

"Don't worry; I'll talk to the reporters. They won't make this public, and no photos will reach your mom."

"Thank you. I've already talked to my grandparents, but they haven't agreed yet."

"You're really silly. You don't need their real agreement, just a fake one."

Vivian currently only had Ramond as her card.

As long as Amelia could endure this, she would definitely be the ultimate winner.
