Chapter 397 It's Already Started, How Do You Expect Me to Stop?
Susanna dodged Aaron's question like a pro, and honestly, she wasn't in the mood to deal with it right now.
Switching gears, she said, "Alright, no point in hashing this out now. The special meds were supposed to get to you once I got back to Novaria."
Aaron, clearly ticked off, yanked at his tie. He knew this wasn't the time for a showdown. In a low voice, he said, "Let's hit the hospital right now."
Without a word, Susanna trailed behind Aaron as they left the office.
She couldn't help but notice the stares from everyone around them.
Word must've gotten out about her slapping Aaron in the office. Gossip travels fast!
Susanna acted like she didn't see a thing; after all, she wasn't the one who got slapped.
Aaron kept his cool, looking all high and mighty, ignoring the gawking eyes around him.
They stood in front of the private elevator.
Just then, the elevator next to them opened, and Vivian stepped out, saying to Aaron, "Aaron, Nova just stormed in. I told her you hate being interrupted while working."
Aaron shot back coldly, "Her issue matters to me too, so it's not an interruption."
Susanna gave Aaron a surprised look, her face showing a mix of emotions.
Vivian's face twisted in anger. She couldn't wrap her head around why Aaron, who was usually all about principles, was so soft on Nova. Was it just because she looked like his ex-wife?
Susanna and Aaron stepped into the elevator together.
Vivian stayed outside, looking pissed as she watched them enter the exclusive elevator.
Aaron glanced at Vivian and said icily, "This is the top floor. Given your position, you're not allowed up here! Do it again, and you can start writing your resignation letter."
Vivian's face turned even sourer. Being humiliated in front of Nova, she snapped, "But according to company rules, Ms. Ramirez also barged in and hurt the security. Why don't you hold her accountable?"
"Because she's my wife!"
Susanna's lips curled into a smirk. "So, Ms. Nguyen, you're just a regular employee. Instead of sticking your nose in other people's business, maybe work on your own skills."
With that, the private elevator door shut.
Vivian stood there, fuming.
But soon, a cold smile crept onto her face. She knew why Nova was so desperate to find Aaron.
She was waiting for the day Susanna would come begging.
Thinking of this, Vivian quickly dialed Maud's number and said, "Aunt Maud, Nova's probably onto the bone marrow thing and is looking for you everywhere."
"I know, I'll make sure to stay hidden. Good thing I had a backup plan; otherwise, she might've succeeded. This time, I'll teach her a real lesson."
"Yeah, Aunt Maud, show her who really runs the Abbott family!"
After hanging up, Vivian felt a lot better.
Sure, she was just a low-level employee now, but the company would be Ramond's in the future. Then, who wouldn't respect her?
Susanna and Aaron left the Abbott Group and headed to the hospital.
They didn't say a word the whole way.
Suddenly, Susanna's phone rang. She carefully checked it and saw it was a call from Michael.
Worried something might've happened to Charles, she quickly answered, "Hello?"
"How's the investigation going?"
"We've got some leads; I'll sort it out ASAP."
"Charles already knows."
Susanna felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She pressed her lips together and said, "Comfort him and tell him I'll definitely bring back the bone marrow."
She hung up, feeling the tension in the car. She was worried Aaron might've overheard something.
Aaron's sharp gaze was on her. He held back but eventually asked, "Who was that?"
Even though he didn't catch the whole convo, he knew it was a guy.
Susanna turned to him. "My fiancé, Michael. His hospital's team is handling Lillian's treatment."
"Isn't he an obstetrician?"
Aaron remembered her fiancé, arranged by the Jones family, was an obstetrician.
Susanna replied calmly, "I said his team is handling it."
"What can an obstetrician do? You might as well bring the kid back to Lindwell."
"Michael is Lillian's godfather; he'll take good care of the treatment."
Aaron frowned at how affectionately she talked about Michael. It felt too close for comfort.
After that, they didn't speak, and the car ride got awkward.
When they got to the hospital, Susanna and Aaron went straight to the doctor to see if there were any other options.
The doctor didn't have good news. "Generally, a person can only donate bone marrow once. It's tough to match a second time. Even if it's possible, it can't be done quickly; there needs to be a gap."
Aaron frowned. "I'm fine; I can donate again right now!"
"Mr. Abbott, even if you're willing, it's not possible to draw blood now. It's really not feasible!"
Hearing this, Susanna felt despair. "So we have to find the bone marrow donated yesterday, right?"
"That's correct. Fortunately, Lillian hasn't started preparing for the vacuum chamber yet, so there's still time to find another match."
Susanna broke down. "There's no time; Lillian's already in the vacuum chamber, waiting. It's already started!"
Charles had already started prepping and was now waiting in the vacuum chamber for the bone marrow.
If everything had gone as planned, the treatment could've started today.
But she didn't expect the bone marrow box to be empty, swapped out by someone!
Aaron grabbed Susanna's wrist. "I'll get people on finding a matching bone marrow right away. We'll find a donor ASAP."
"Do you think the Jones family lacks money or manpower? We've been searching forever and haven't found a match! Instead of arranging all this, you should send more people to find your mom and ask where she put the bone marrow!"
Susanna was beyond frustrated.
"To prevent any accidents, notify Lillian to stop for now."
"It's already started; how can I stop it?"
